...how to draw dotted lines?

cant think of a tool off hand to just draw a dotted line. could make a selection box following the path you want it to go then clone the original dash or erase off of a solid line........

hopefully someone else has a better ide for Gimp.

 

btw do you have any way to declare yourself a student or teacher? yes the question is somewhat related.....

You can edit the brushes in the brush editor, found in the brushes menu. There you can increase the spacing, then use the pencil tool to draw the dotted line.

450 is a good spacing for rivets, for the most parts. that's what I use
