simonbp Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Happy April Fools! The Avro Canada Avrocar was originally designed as a vtol fighter-bomber, and was picked up by the US government. The low power of the engines, however meant that it could only lift off with ground effect about 1 metre, thus making it the world's first hovercraft, but not a terribly great fighter-bomber... I made this as a challenge to myself in about two evenings, so it's kinda rough (port hardpoint doesn't work, no animations, etc.), but fun nonetheless. To make it true to the original concept, I scaled it up ~15% and gave it a flight model based on an A-4.... It's at mysite below and has been uploaded here... http://wombat.ods.org/cgi-bin/avrocar.pl Have Fun! Quote
+Dave Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Wow that is cool as hell. My new recon platform. And it is up for D/L now. Quote
Guest IndioBlack Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 Most expensive lawnmower in the World. I had the original flight footage in for a documentary I edited about weird planes being mistaken for Alien spaceships on the Discovery Channel. It looks the biz, but can hardly move. Hard to believe they really built one. Quote
+howling1 Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 Any plans Simon for a further refined version? This one's way too cool to remain just a Beta. Quote

purolator Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 ROFL! Many thanks for this one. Took it out for a ride, actually I was assigned to hit T-34s, but it was an opportunity to attend to those Mig-19 drivers apparently being assigned for CAS as well. I guess they never knew what hit them! "Towarisch Kommandant, I am under attack! The enemy flies a...disc???" "Towarisch Wingman, stay off the Vodka before the flight and proceed on your attack!" And now we enter the Twilight Zone, take a short trip to This Island Earth and finally we'll have a cold one at the little Ale-Inn in Rachel, Nevada. Quote
