If it was that easy...

But for them it must have been an incredible release to be through with that war -

a war that taught all nations, how terrible a war of highly developed industrial nations was.

(Not that any other war was easy, though...)

Never the less; of course I observed the minute's silence of 11 am this morning.

I recall a book on WWI aircraft. On the last page, there was a large-type quote from a pilot on Nov.11. He said they were in their planes on the flight line waiting to take off, and somebody came out and announced that the war was officially over. He said that, one by one, you could hear the engines turning off, but nobody got out of their plane. They just sat there listening to the ticking of the engines as they cooled down. Nobody knew what to do, or how to act.

 

Never the less; of course I observed the minute's silence of 11 am this morning.

 And after all these years, I've thought it was 11 pm.
