What is the reason some target areas do not appear as a strike mission option, and only as a SEAD option? Targets such as artillery sites only work this way I've noticed.

Not sure why, any ideas?

Thanks

It depends on the targets which are available in a Target area. SAM or Flak (AAA) are set as Targettype in terrain_types.ini as air defence assets and so they become available for SEAD.

For instance:

[TargetType042]
Name=SAMRadar
FullName=SAM Site
TargetType=SAM_RADAR  <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< this line
UseGroundObject=TRUE
ActiveYear=1965
TargetValue=200
RepairRate=0.555
StartDetectChance=80
StartIdentifiedChance=20
IncreaseDetectChanceKey=10
MaxVisibleDist=8000.0
DestroyedEffect=SmallRocketGroundExplosion
SecondaryEffect=VehicleFireEffect
SecondaryChance=50

[TargetType043]
Name=SAMLauncher
FullName=SAM Site
TargetType=SAM_LAUNCHER   <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< this line.
UseGroundObject=TRUE
ActiveYear=1965
TargetValue=100
RepairRate=0.555
StartDetectChance=20
StartIdentifiedChance=0
IncreaseDetectChanceKey=0
MaxVisibleDist=8000.0
DestroyedEffect=SmallRocketGroundExplosion
SecondaryEffect=VehicleFireEffect
SecondaryChance=50

odd, because "ARTILLERY" is a valid Target Type (used it extensively on the ASW map texas/mexico)

Well no luck, thanks anyways though

I guess I forgot to mention that It's only the VietnamSEA terrain that has this issue. The Korea3 and IR2003 terrains for example work fine and allow you to strike artillery sites.
