TNT's The Last Ship

Anybody else watching this show, I never read the book. It's about a US Navy Destroyer sent North on a top secret mission, when their mission is about to end all sh!t breaks loose, and the crew and scientists onboard are tasked pretty much with saving what's left of the worlds population.

I watch it, and I've also read the book, about 25 years ago. The show's storyline is not even close to the book's.

haven't seen the show (not much time and Disney Channel tends to be the main thing on cable) but from what i've read on the show plot vs reading the book many moons ago  i should hope the plots dont match. kinda hard for most in the 2014 audience to relate to global thermonuclear war.

 

Fubar, it sucks getting old. i was gonna say 15 years ago but know i read it during the year my dad got out the army, putting it squarely around '93.  just dawned on me that that isnt 15 years ago............

As I recall, I first read it in either late '88 or early '89, and passed it on to a relative.  A few years later (around '94), I picked up a paperback edition of that same book to have something to read on my off hours, while in the process of running a rather slow, trawler-style  yacht down to Florida.

 

I also picked up a copy of this book ( http://www.amazon.com/Scorpion-Sea-P-T-Deutermann/dp/0312951795 ), which I thought was a better read.

I never read the book, but I watched the first season. It seems interesting so far, but next season will have to be a major change.
