SF2_!991_Operation Nordic Storm.7z

This is something nobody else may have done before, as far as I know. This is a pack of 30+ single missions designed and written to form a slightly branching campaign experience, with the aid of an included briefing book to guide you through the process. I've been frustrated by SF2's campaign mechanism and wanted to put out a mission pack that tells a bit more story and is a bit more immersive in nature, rather than letting the game's campaign code just generate mission after mission with no real sense of continuity or panache.

The mission pack is basically a more detailed, story-driven version of the campaign you play in SF2NA. This one is based a little more closely on Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising", the biggest difference being that the Soviets hold ALL of Iceland, not just part of it. Although it doesn't follow Clancy's novel exactly, many of the scenario driven elements of these missions will be intimately familiar to fans of the book.

A full explanation of all facets of the mod is included in the 'README first!' file in the zip file. That is the place to start for a full description of the mission pack, as well as information on required and recommended mods needed to play. The required mods list is a bit on the heavy side, but totally worth it. None of the required mods were altered in any way by me, and all credit and kudos go to the mod authors for their work.

The Operation Nordic Storm Campaign Briefing Book is included in the zip file, in .pdf format. You'll need adobe acrobat reader in order to use the briefing book- I don't expect that will be a big issue for anyone here. The briefing book is what allows you to play a string of 'single missions' as a branching 'campaign,' as well as go beyond the game's often-simplistic definitions of success and failure for various mission types. A full explanation on the use and purpose of the briefing book is included in the 'README first!' file.

I really enjoyed creating and play-testing this mod, and if it is well received I may do a similar mod based on a circa-2010 fictional conflict against Iran (with some Russian help) in the Persian Gulf. Feedback and bug reports are always welcome. The important thing is to read the README file in its entirety. Use wordpad to access the README file to see it in the proper formatting. Enjoy!

Well I realy like your idea and I will very happy test this new play mode. We need missions/campaigns .....

But as you require a quite long list of mods to install why don't share the direct links so anyone can easy find the right required content?

And an answer: any chance to use TW F-14, as I prefer? Maybe a spefific version?

Thank you, make more.

I knew someone was going to ask for the direct links....

Sorry, but I don't have them. All those mods are on this site, however. The filenames listed in the readme are the exact filenames.

If by the TW F-14 you mean the stock one that comes with the game, any version playable in 1991 should be selectable from the loadout page when you go into a mission. In fact, if you don't install the Tomcat Superpak you might have to do that in order to get any plane to show up at all. I'm still relatively new at modding this game. Actually, your question makes me curious about a couple things. I haven't tried testing the missions on a 'clean' install without any of the mods from my list. I know some of them wouldn't work (the A-6 ones come to mind immediately,) but I'm curious now about the others, including the various ships that would or wouldn't show up. I may give it a whirl tomorrow just to see what happens.

Truth is, when I started working on this I wasn't really planning on releasing it, so I wasn't too worried about all the mods I had installed. When I needed to add something like a ship type or the Harriers for the Nassau (which can't actually takeoff or land from the Nassau- I fake that part), I just went and found a mod that fit the bill and installed it. When I decided to release the missions and brief book I had to go back and sort out which mods I actually used. As for direct links? Wish I had 'em myself.

I also really like this idea.  I've thought about something similar even as far as using different maps - e.g. Iran/Iraq03 and other Middle East maps to crush ISIL, or Central US and SW US in a Red Dawn inspired campaign - because I totally agree that the stock campaign engine fails in immersing you in a story or even giving you an idea of the overall campaign status/progress.

I'll test it out this weekend for inspiration!

Thank you for this great mission pack! I was thinking about creating a dynamic campaign with Iceland totally conquered by the Soviets, but the 30+ single missions seem a better idea, especially when based off Tom Clancy's novel. Good job.
