The Caudron G.IV is among my top 3 planes I'd ask for in WOFF.

Firstly because we really need French two-seaters, and secondly, because this craft has a very distinctive look

and character, which should make it worth to have in a sim like WOFF.

Maybe one day...

In my profound ignorance of WWI French aircraft (apart from the Nieuport fighters) I offer this for others like me:

.

The French developed one of the first dedicated bomber aircraft. It looks fragile to a modern eye but it was a successful design. The Caudron G.4 was a biplane with twin engines, widely used during World War I as a bomber aircraft. It was designed by René and Gaston Caudron as an improvement over their Caudron G.3. The aircraft was no delight for the eye with its massive, open construction. The aircraft employed wing warping for banking. The first G.4 was manufactured in 1915, both in France, England and in Italy. The Caudron G.4 was used as a reconnaissance bomber into the heart of Germany. Later, when Germany developed a fighter force, the aircraft had to be used for night bombings

The story of the Caudron G4 is much more complex :

It was designed to counter the altitude capacities of the geramn aircraft.

As such, it was the first military plane to reach the 6000 m altitude "bar".

It was actually a multitrol aircraft :

- Day / night bomber

- Reconnaissance

- Escort fighter (with limited success !!)

At the beginning of its career, the G4 could hold its own against the german plane and when agreesivly flown shot down several of them (Fonck is not the only scxorer on this type)

Its good altitude perorrmances interested the Italian in the Alpes.

The British used it as a predecessor of the HP100 (RNAS 207 later 7 squadron)

As such, it carried out bombing raids on belgian U-Boot bases escorted with Strutter.

As you can see, the plane has a lot of interesting possibilities in terms of gameplay.

It would be an interesting craft to have in WOFF even for the twin engine capability. I wonder how it would handle in the event one engine failed.

When looking at the pictures closely, apparently the plane did not have counter rotating engines (or propellers).  However, it looks like the 3D model does.  I too would like to see this one in the game.

Has anyone found any accounts of what it was like to fly? It has the look of a plane with many 'quirks'. This would be good to know prior to getting it in the game. We might have to fly what we wish for.
