Mirage F1AZ

Mirage F1AZ (1975-1991)

This mod is dedicated to BPAO, nothing would have been possible without him.

Single-seat strike and multi-role fighter. It is a simplified attack version with extra fuel in place of radar and some other all-weather avionics.
The South African Air Force recognized the advantages of a simplified version of the Mirafe F1CZ for day visual attack missions. The resulting Dassault-Breguet Mirage F1AZ
is visually distinguished by having a slender conical nose, resulting from removal of the large Cyrano IVM radar. In its place is the ESD Aïda II ranging radar and a
laser-ranger, with a large instrument boom housing the pitot/static heads attached on the underside of the nose.  The main avionics racking is moved from behind the cockpit
to the nose, making room for an extra fuselage tank. Other additions are a Doppler radar and a retractable refueling probe. South Africa received 32 aircraft for service with
No. 1 Sqn.

The aircraft were withdrawn from service in 1997.

Covered unit :

  • N°1 Squadron Early Camo.
  • N°1 Squadron Experimental Camo.

This addon is and will in all cases remain freeware.

Released under CombatAce Fair-Use terms.

Enjoy

The Mirage F-1 Team.

Hello

I have a question about CME :

Which type of pod did the F1AZ typically carried ?

Did it carry internal chaffs and flares ?

I think those were installed in 1988.

Because in Baxter's book (SAAF in Border War) there are some images of F1AZ firing flares ...

Thank you in advance

During the Border War, Mirage F-1AZ used ELT-555 ECM pods.

About chaffs and flares, may be the Az received the same upgrade than the CZ, but I'm not sure.

They stuffed a few chaff packs into the airbrakes ( i think the latest version of the data inis should have that, a one-time dump of 4x chaff )

The RIMS update was ongoing during the end of the border war, but most aircraft received it post-war.

Thank you

Yes, the RIMS update came too late, but it is likely that they fit decoys in the parachute fairings, as did the French for most of their Mirages, though there is no confirmation

I think that a few aircraft received the special fins on the fuselage underside with integrated flare launchers, replacing the standard fins.

So a partial RIMS fitment to counter the IR SAM threat.

No modification to the brake parachute housing.

The photo in the book shows a fully RIMS-updated F1AZ (1988+), you can see the mountings for the pods on the 0-station.

Version 2.7 has been uploaded.

We choose to make a specific early version (1975-1991).

The late version will follow.

This mod is dedicated to BPAO, nothing would have been possible without him.
Greece operated 40 Dassault Mirage F1CG single seat aircraft. F1CG was first ordered in 1974 and entered service with the Hellenic Air Force in 1975. The aircraft were used by 334 Squadron and 342 Squadron. Mirage F1CG was armed with the Sidewinder AIM-9P missile, rather than the most commonly used Matra Magic II, and it could carry four AIM-9Ps, rather than just two.
Upgraded version from 1984 with MK6 ejection seat, RWR and additional wings missile pylons.

A big thank to all on Combatace and C6 forums that helped us solving issues we encountered.
Any omission in credits is totally unwanted, if I forgot somebody, let me know, I will correct this.
