Not as straightforward as with previous Windows but you can try this.

Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Administrative Tools > Service then disable the "Windows Update" service. To disable the service, double click on the line containing the "Windows Update" service. That will open a panel with a dropdown box with the status. Selected "disabled" and click ok.

I will try in on my wife's windows 10 pc and let you know.

There has got to be a better way.....

Disabling the service also prevents you from doing manual updates. I'm ok with re-enabling the service to do that but it's not very user friendly.

Stupid Microsoft........

Sadly there's no way to put the update functionality back on a par with Windows 7/8/8.1, but these steps will give you much more control and is how I've been managing updates since the Win 10 preview builds.

1. Fire up the local group policy editor.  Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.   Open Configure Automatic Updates, set the policy to enabled.  In the options box set "Configure automatic updating" to "2 - Notify for download and notify for install", then click "ok".  This then means you will receive notifications, but it won't install updates without you pressing the update button.  Note it may take a reboot or two for the policy to take effect.   You'll know it's working if you go to the Windows update page of the settings app and at the top it says "Some settings are managed by your organisation", the message is due to group policy mainly being used to manage computers on domains.

2. Go into control panel (not settings) > system > advanced system settings >advanced > hardware > device installation settings.  Set "Do you want to automatically download manufacturers apps etc" to "No".  This will allow you to update, but windows update should then not replace any existing drivers.

3. For even finer control, google for "Windows 10 hide updates".  See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930 .  This will allow you to install an MS hotfix that allows you to selectively disable any current updates including drivers before pressing the update button if you've completed step 1 above.

Hope this helps.

Hello everybody,   As promised earlier, this week we'll show you another Allied fighter that participated in the Battle of Kuban - Yak-7b series 36. This aircraft had an unusual story: being a one-seat fighter, it was actually converted from two-seat training plane Yak-7 by removing the rear cockpit. However, this wasn't a field modification of existing planes, Yak-7b was mass produced. The war started badly for the USSR, so it was decided to use the existing Yak-7 assembly lines to produce Yak-7b model with minimal production changes needed. Later, the upgraded Yak-7b became Yak-9, the most produced Soviet fighter of WWII era.     Speaking of its weaponry, it is an up-gunned version of Yak-1: 20mm ShVAK engine cannon and two synchronized 12.7mm UBS machine guns installed on the engine cowling could be complemented by two 50kg or 100kg bombs to engage ground targets. The increased firepower is the main advantage of Yak-7b compared to Yak-1.   Part 172   Today is a very simple Developer Diary. Some images of the A-20B cockpit for you. We hope you enjoy.     DD 171: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/168-developer-diary/page-5#entry511051   DD 172: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/168-developer-diary/page-5#entry513976   As always, have fun reading it and enjoy the pictures :)   Best regards   Martin
