Insufficient Observers

iirc one of the DiD campaigns Olham organized here on CA had us all start our pilots as recce/bombers.  After a specified period of time one could then 'graduate' up to a specific fighter squadron.  The bomber/recce piloting in the sim was actually a lot of fun.

That's all I'm doing for now. Letting my observer score the occasional airplane victory while I put bombs on target and once in a blue moon flame a balloon.

How do you put bombs on target?... do tell or show us a video as it's all a black art to me!

No bomb-sight mod back in OFF so I used the TLAR (That Looks About Right) targeting method for dumb bombs.  Fly enough sorties at a specific altitude band and you get used to the visuals, then compensate for variables such as winds, airspeed, bank angle etc., one last check to make sure doors are open, steady on...press button..."Bombs gone".  Jink a bit to wiggle the tail at the AckAck.  If no defenders then you can watch the fall and oftentimes follow the impacts.  I can say without hesitation there were many times I put the bombs into a field a mile or more off target, but that odd time you managed to at least bracket a target or land most of the ordinance on target well that felt pretty good.

I seem to recall, RAF_Louvert having demonstrated the technique and he even built an airfield to test the bombing on. He hangs out on SimHQ mostly.

I seem to recall that RAF_Louvert over on SimHQ did a video on bombing and even built a custom airfield for bombing practice, not to mention having created the bomb sight. You might want to PM him there

RAF_Louvert did create two additional tiles for the England airfields (Thetford and Catterick) which have practice bombing target fields and these are in the Consolidated Airfields Mod on Sandbagger's Web site.

I am looking to create something similar for the German and French training in the near future and add it to the mod.

Hopefully we can add some training missions as well to make use of the facilities.
