New Patches don't
Erik replied to CAPFlyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
CAP; Sounds like you're frustrated and I guess I would be too, however going off on those that are trying to help you probably isn't the best option if you really want some help. My two cents for what they are worth. Anyway, I was reading this: http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads_wov.htm I'm sure you have that link to the WOV updates and patches, but in reading the text for each of the files it's apparent to me that the update must be applied first then the patch. Remove and re-install a new installation of WOV (you said you had a secondary drive you were installing to which will leave your working or old copy alone, that's great). Once the new installation is done update to the latest service pack: Service Pack v05.15.06. Then as mentioned try the game to see if the update is viable for you or not. Then I'd patch to the latest patch: Patch v07.10.06 to see if that's working for you. Once we narrow down the issue a bit we'll probably have more solutions for you. Let us know. -

Okay ... well thanks for trying ... I've filed the bugz0r report and we'll wait to see if Invision can figure it out. AOL and MSN Explorer users the work-around is use a different browser to view the site. Erik
-
I made some changes today ... can those of you with AOL and MSN try the site login now with your AOL Explorer or MSN Explorer browsers and report back if it works now? Thanks; Erik
-
NO ... but I do have a machine that is like my guinea pig, sits over in the corner and I run all kinds of malicious content on it in hopes one day it will die, but it won't.

Lets see I thought I owned every browser compliant and non-compliant known to mankind ... are you saying MSN has their own browser? Is it that thing with the butterfly? If so then it's a security setting in your browser. To verify that open forum.combatace.com and see if you can log in. If you can then it's the redirect in the portal that's the issue and security is set too high or you can allow our site as trusted. If it doesn't work and you can't log in at forum.combatace.com then let me know and I'll download the browser and see what's going on. That's what I get for thinking I tested "every" browser I knew about. :( Thanks for the intel! Erik

Not sure I understand the question ... can you be more specific or list any errors you might receive, thanks.

Lets not spread rumors or even start the ugly idea. It's the internet and computers / software fail, it's that simple. I'm sure they'll be up at their earliest convenience. Take care; Erik

With the list of necessary changes and fixes coming to the end we're proud to announce our site up and 100% operational again. In the upcoming days we'll continue making changes to improve the look and feel for our members and friends. If you haven't noticed some of the new toys we've put into place for you check out the new and improved download section. Complete with highlight thumbnails and extensive search, we're confident you're going to give it rave reviews. To compliment the downloads section a new gallery has been enabled which we are quite sure is going to get a lot of use. I'm sure you noticed our front page and boards are now entirely integrated and we've done away with the confusing multiple log in areas. Be sure to let us know what you think or if you find something we missed. Thank you all for your patience and understanding during our transitional phase. The CombatACE Team

heh - hacked is probably the wrong word, probably more correct is that an exploit that allowed someone to use our domain in ways it was never intended caused us to have to put in some extra hours. The exploit allowed injections to our shell allowing the upload of unwanted content to our site. This content was then used to phish for banking information and spam flood the internet. All of our subscribers content and details were not at risk at any time, but the seriousness of the phishing content forced our hosting provider to revoke our agreements in breech leaving us to find another provider, move the content, fix the exploit, and while we were at it upgrade our applications. Not an easy task when you're un-prepared for the move, but we've managed the job well. Our downtime last week was a direct result just how seriously we take what we do here. From all of us at CombatACE; Enjoy your new digs. Erik

Yup ... and actually the old file announcements will never work again as we've upgraded to a more powerful download library system capable of handling our needs now and in the future. Sometimes progress is painful ... trust me I have first hand experience. LOL

[ looks around ] nope it's getting a face lift ... soon tho so standby
-
There's lots more to do and lots of great new stuff on the way, standby while we continue to make the changes. Sorry for the downtime and there will be more intel to follow when I have time ... it's back to work. [hears fate's whip in the background]

Just thought I'd share that as of yesterday we've served over a half a million files to the sim community. I'd like to thank all the great mod'ers and supporters of this site. Each of them truely understand why it's here and what service they provide to our community. Thank You! I hope you each have the opportunity to say thanks to these great few while you're enjoying the great mod's and community they provide. Until the next update. Erik

An update after the site move: A browser problem has come up after we moved the site that has to do with cookies that we set in your browser. These cookies are part of normal day to day browser activity and they do things like remember your username / password and whether you wish to remain logged in on subsequent returns to our site. This cookie once resident on your machine stays active and will not expire. The below information will help you resolve this issue. SYMPTOM: Our main site (http://www.combatace.com) will not open or gives page display, can't be displayed errors. CAUSE: This is being caused by a resident cookie we set when the "remember me" box was ticked. FIX: - Close all browser windows. - Delete stored cookies from our domain. These cookies are stored in your browser cache directory. You can search for any cookie that has combatace.com in it and delete it. - Clear your browser cache (stored pages). - Re-open a new browser window to the site. *Note - If you have multiple browsers you'll need to remove the cookies stored for each browser you use. (They are stored in different places) Should you have any other concerns or need more indepth help please feel free to reply to this message. Take care; Erik Thompson CombatACE

I can duplicate the problem but only using IE6 with the latest updates from Microsoft. IE6 without the update works fine. All other browsers work fine. The new IE7 beta works fine. So it has something to do with the security patch in IE6. I'll dig into it and see what I can find. Thanks for all the help it's been great. For now those using IE6 delete our site cookie and just remain logged out of the front page. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks; Erik

Hi; Just a thought. Can you go into your browser settings; Above on the menu bar: Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > Click the Internet Globe > Then choose reset to default or lower the setting for a test. Then browse to the site and let me know if that works. If you run software like Norton's Antivirus or Norton's Security Suite you may have to adjust the security policy there as well. Thanks for the help we'll find the solution one way or another. Take care; Erik

Make sure you delete "all" the cookies from combatace.com. There should be two one is the login and the other is the session ID. Once you've done that it should work fine for you. Let me know. I've tested this in as many browsers as I can think of, and it's working fine here. I'm hoping to find the "answer" which cures everyone's problems so take some notes of what you do it will be invaluable help. Thanks; Erik
