A nice win in deed. I'm so glad we were able to make a difference. It's an important topic that giants like Comcast think they're just going to slip by us while no one is looking. Let's hope the progress continues. Thanks for being involved.

Oh the conspiracy theories will be rampant about all this. Half of them I might believe. Definitely a loss though condolences where they are due.

Mobil version / Message lock
Erik replied to RAVEN's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Our mobile platform sucks. I can't even paint a pretty picture of sunbathing girls on the white sands of Hawaii about it. The new release of our board software is in private beta now. I imagine at least a few months will be needed for the public release and point release upgrades until I'll feel comfortable upgrading. At that point all the old nonsense will be gone and we'll have a true mobile and pad platform. In all seriousness it's been a sore point in my side for a long while. I'll keep everyone updated as the time draws near. E As the work around in the lower left hand corner of the pages you can select the skin you want to use even on mobile or pad devices. That will at least get you full operation of things even though it's a heavy bandwidth hog, wifi is no big deal tho. -
I would suspect that only US Citizens are allowed to petition but if we squash it here the world will follow. Thanks for checking.

Reporting tools are a necessary evil especially in cases like this. Bottom line we want to make sure we do things right for everyone. -

Well the download limit is 6 per day not three for new members. There's warnings all over the place and posts about download accelerators aka download managers. Turn them off or disable them for our site because it's going to chew up your download limit from us. As an example if you download one file and your download manager opens 6 connections to us (to speed up the transfer) that's it you're done for the day. I see that a lot when people have duplicate downloads, like you do. If you really are downloading something 4 times I'd ask why, but that's as much help as I can be there. Your download logs don't show any signs of our system not working or that we aren't giving you the files. Your account is fine with no restrictions. Keep in mind that our system clocks things on a per use basis it doesn't reset at any magical time. If you download 3 files at 6am on Monday and 3 files at 10am on Monday and come back Tuesday at 8am you'll only have 3 downloads available to you. If you came back after 10am you'd have all 6 available. So they roll off your count 24 hours after you start the download. Hope that helps. Unfortunately I'd say that's not the best of news. Cable modems attenuate up and down depending on signal strength and noise. If a cable modem is resetting all the time it means that the signal quality has reached a preset maximum level of being too low or too high in either of those values. The modem probably didn't need to be replaced and you should take it back if you can because that's an ISP issue they are responsible for the signal to your modem, the modem only tunes it finely for optimal levels. So that would be my first call is to get that business resolved asap and don't let them give you the run around have someone actually come and put a meter on your cable where the modem plugs into and have them show it to you. They will and should give you the acceptable levels and noise for whatever channel they are running data on. These huge cable companies got the nation by the bullocks, no love loss from me. Hope you get it sorted. E

Your account type is unlimited. There are no restrictions for your downloads. The Mirror speeds will always be slow it's just an offsite server that stores our backups. Make sure you're downloading from our main files repository by using the "Download from Server" button. I just tested the speeds to where I am and I'm downloading at about 900Mbits per second so there's no way you should be getting 260K. Please check that you're using the main server and let me know. Otherwise there's net congestion or possibly congestion on your ISP side. Everything on our end looks great for speed and latency to the test locations I used. Sorry you're having an issue but it's not normal. E

Did you know that? (Google Earth Models to 3ds Max)
Erik replied to lauro rafael's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I don't see the OP having any merit to stay. The information is available to those that need it or want it. Posting it here serves no purpose but it could be misinterpreted fairly easily. For that reason I'm locking the discussion so it can die a quiet death in the hallowed graves beneath Dave's desk. -
Feature Upgrades and Browser Support
Erik posted a topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Had a small point upgrade to do today to support IE users and various features on our site. This incurred a few minutes of downtime. Nothing big to worry about but in case anyone is curious. Downtime was limited to less than 5 minutes. E -

"View new content" does not work anymore
Erik replied to jeanba's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
This is working as intended. In order for the "New Content" feature to work you have to follow forums, topics, gallery users, images, downloads, etc. Usually this happens automatically when you post something in a forum but for some reason the notifications on your account were set so that you didn't follow anything. Maybe you were trying to eliminate email or whatever but I've re-ticked that box to auto follow topics you reply in and tested the feature and it's working like it should. You can manage what notifications you receive and how you receive them by editing this page. My Notifications If you want to follow a topic or download or whatever look toward the top of the page it will say "Follow This Topic" if you aren't following and "Unfollow This Topic" if you already are. Now that your auto follow is turned on if you reply you automatically will get the updates and see them in the New Content area. Hope that helps. Erik -
"View new content" does not work anymore
Erik replied to jeanba's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Two possibilities. You either viewed all the content or marked it as read. Have you checked it today? If it's still the same are you allowing us to set cookies? That would be a browser setting or malware detection setting. Nothing on our end has changed it if worked before for you it should work now. Let me know. -
See above. Thanks KJ.

Alternatives to Paypal (for subscription)
Erik replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
We run everything through PayPal. You don't have to have a PayPal account and the cards don't have to be connected to anything. Can you tell me more about what you mean? Maybe I don't understand. -
Jedi - I had to change your post. We can't say that last part, it's bad news for us if the big G ever caught wind of it. As long as the service is online don't feel like a drag or burden. If it's there use it. Simple as that. Goes for everyone paid or not. That's the whole reason we started this.

We do this already only subscribed members have unrestricted access with no throttling on speed.

I answered some of these questions already. I'm not sure how much detail is needed in a breakdown so I hesitate to get too in-depth. As an example this year it cost us $418.31 for our insurance policy we're required to have in case our equipment catches fire and destroys the co-location facility, that's a yearly premium. I wrapped all that stuff into a cost overview to make it easier. I actually toyed around with the idea of making this a pay for privilege site to cover our bills but have been very reluctant to do so and hope to remain free spirited indefinitely, though we know free is never free. The donation option is available in the little drop menu where your name is, I also posted a link above along with the subscription link. Putting together a visual bandwidth consumption graph for each person would be a huge undertaking. I'm not sure there would be enough return on investment for that as it would require a software engineer from Invision to accomplish. I get a breakdown of top users etc, but have to run reports for individuals. An example is our top downloader this month has grabbed 2181 files used 131 Gigabytes of data and that's just one person. Let me know if I didn't answer all your questions.

Our yearly operating costs fall into these categories. Equipment, Connectivity, Software, Renewal Fees, Banking Fees, Accounting, Fed/State Taxes, Insurance, and Licensing. Our income is derived from GoogleAds and Subscriptions. Our operating costs hover around $750.00 per month. Our income has been hovering around $400.00 per month. While $400.00 per month almost covers our monthly equipment and connectivity (keeping the lights on) it is falling short of meeting the remainder of our hard costs. This is why we're asking for your support and help. It's been mentioned that we'll have to scale back or discontinue some services. I would find this hard to do as our size (space on disk) has grown to the point that scaling back would require us to physically shrink. That's almost impossible to do. Scaling back our bandwidth is doable but we'd suffer great losses in the process which will affect our bottom line creating a vicious circle. This is a last case scenario. I recognize that $750.00 sounds like a huge expense but it's really not. If you think about your internet, cell phone, and cable bills which you're paying $400.00 per month for I'd say we're doing fairly well handling the thousands of people we see daily on our budget. Not to mention the 5.4 million downloads to date and the yottabyte of bandwidth we've shared. So where does that leave us today? For now it means we have to stay viable, it means your support in invaluable, and we recognize each of you who subscribe to us every day we keep the lights on. There has been a nice surge in subscriptions today but we need to keep it going. One notable mention is Jarhead1 AKA Kevin, his contribution alone restored my faith in this community and single handedly almost double our subscription income for the past four months. In months past we've had generous donations from Jug and logan4 to be sure but there are many who deserve appreciation, so from us to all of you, THANK YOU! Let's keep the momentum moving forward. Realistically I'd like to set a goal of about six months of costs (roughly $4200.00) and then our current income will cover us for another 6 months. I don't know how close we can get but we've taken a good step today. As always if you have questions please ask. I'm happy to share what I can about anything we do here or why we do it. I got on it as soon as the server notified me. Apache crashed which corrupted a sessions table in the db. More than likely a packet flood to Apache or DDOS. Joys of online life.
