F/A-18C Available Through Steam
Caesar replied to Caesar's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
No, not yet. I do have FC3 for DCS for the F-15, Su-27 and whatnot. I've really got to set everything up and actually play. Kind of in the midst of several games ATM. If/when that HeatBlur F-14 gets released I'm sure I'll drop everything else and jump into DCS immediately. I probably will get the F/A-18 at some point. -

Caesar posted a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Hey, all. While I'm anxiously awaiting Heatblur's Turkey, I booted Steam today and got a pop-up indicating the Hornet is available for DCS World 2.5 Beta. $79.99 entry fee! BUT! I also didn't see a topic about this yet, so I figured I'd post something. Cheers and good hunting! -

Ah, OK. Thanks for clearing that up! -
My only hope is that it doesn't suck completely. If it's watchable, I'll consider that a win.

No joy
Caesar replied to vintis1988's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
"No Joy" means that you don't have visual (or radar) contact on an aircraft/target/object of interest. Your wingman is telling you he either cannot see or does not have radar contact on the target you are telling him to attack. As for how to make your wingman/section attack that target, follow MigBuster's instructions, then direct your wingman to attack. -
Interview with Dave "BIO" Baranek F-14 Part 2
Caesar replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
I'm glad Bio mentioned that the carriage of various weapons and tanks affects the performance of fighters. This is something a lot of folks don't think about; you see the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds (or let's say an F-15C or F-14B or MiG-29 or Su-27/30/etc.) do demonstrations with aircraft stripped of all ordnance and assume said aircraft is going to handle like that in combat--that's not the case. Sling some weapon pylons and the weapons themselves as well as some bags of gas to the fighter and well, it's not going to turn or push vertically like you see in a demonstration. Hell, simply having the racks on the bird is going to affect its performance! Thanks for sharing, MB.- 3 replies

Do i need different SF2 releases for different mods?
Caesar replied to Arkhamuk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Apart from the above (terrains, baseline aircraft/weapons, campaign requirements), there is also the AvionicsF14A.dll that only comes with Strike Fighters 2: North Atlantic. If you want to use any aircraft with Track While Scan/multi-shot active missile capability, you need to have SF2:NA. Apart from the F-14 Super Pack and a version of the F-22, I don't recall how many other mod aircraft use this file, but North Atlantic is the one that has it. -
Fortunately, in this particular accident the pilot did safely eject and survive. Aircraft was BuNo 145357 (AB-212), pilot was Lt Jg Terry Kryway. There's a short explanation here: http://www.crusader.gaetanmarie.com/articles/hardlanding/ahardlanding.htm, also a listing over at Joe Baugher (http://www.joebaugher.com/navy_serials/thirdseries18.html).

MF Factory Early Skin Question
Caesar replied to JSF_Aggie's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Gah! I knew I wasn't calling it the right thing. I even used "anti-skid" in the accompanying document! (e.g., in the CVW-14 paragraph: "The paint schemes included are those decided upon for that cruise, to include an anti-skid strip painted only over the left intake nacelle, and VF-2's red "warning" paint over the wing boxes of their aircraft.") -
MF Factory Early Skin Question
Caesar replied to JSF_Aggie's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
That was by design. I went through a lot of pictures of early F-14s and many of them used the single anti-glare marks over the left intake. They also changed pretty significantly sometimes, so I tried to go with the paint jobs settled upon for each squadron's inaugural cruise. Couple examples of VF-14 specifically: (No anti-glare on the right) Was similarly used for VF-1, VF-2, VF-32, and a number of other high-viz Turkey squadrons. -
Thanks for all your efforts, Erik!

TMF F-14 Tomcat Super Pack v1.32
Caesar replied to Caesar's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Indeed, we do not have every single squadron, nor livery of each squadron represented in the SP, though we do have a lot. -
F-16 problem
Caesar replied to strahi's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It is defined in each aircraft's Avionics.ini. For example, for the F-16CM Block 52, the search range, strength, track range and strength are as follows: SearchRange=84 SearchStrength=110 TrackRange=59 TrackStrength=110 The ranges in this example are in Nautical Miles. The range in practice can change depending on the target's RCS Modifier and ECM strength. In terms of actually shooting at the target, it's as UllyB has written. -

Feel free to use the latest SP F-14s - they've seen a lot of changes over the past 6 years. -

Caesar replied to combatace444's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
This might be what you're looking for: -
Yep. I did my upgrade last year and paid up for a 1080ti. At the time, mine (an evga) cost about $730. Current asking price for the same model is $1250 on newegg as of today. Memory, too, has gone up, but not so ridiculously. Supposedly, brick and mortar stores like Best Buy haven't been as affected from a pricing standpoint, but a lot of their stock is sold out. Sucks for builds at the moment!

SF2 video recorder
Caesar replied to combatace444's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
If you're recording at a high framerate, high resolution, and both video and audio, the resulting file can absolutely be that big. Lower framerates, video alone, etc. saves space. -

If you have an nVidia card you might have ShadowPlay available, which I've used plenty.
