For reasons I have communicated via PMs the files are no longer available via the links posted in this thread. However, they should be available soon- I am awaiting a reply from an orgainisation who contacted me recently seem to be intersted in EAW.

"Iron Mike" Pluhar posts only occasionally these days in the SimHQ EAW forum. He has done quite a lot of 512x512 skinning so I will try to locate him. Re-arming can be done by landing a plane that is not seriously damaged at a friendly airfield and parking with the engine off close to a hangar. Text messages on screen tell you when it starts, then when it is completed. It takes a little time. Cheers

Shogun and I just tried it online at GameRanger. It worked beautifully. Great to fly the old default planes again. Groundstarted intercept in 190A-4 and Doras vs Liberators and P38H escorts. When I was low on ammo I landed at a friendly base and re-armed. Returning to the fray I was able to catch the last of the escorts as it was landing at its home base. Great fun in real time! Jel

If you want to check it out: 140 No CDF install Jel

It supports 512x512 bmp textures which need dummy 512x512 tpc files. The error you got is what happens when you do not select a planeset- check my previous post. I have a no CDFs version running! I thought we needed a new screen- this is a nice one of Ades: Jel

Deleted IL-2, Who needs the headaches?
Jel replied to Chutedangle's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
I logged onto this forum as I have just been re-trying some flight sims I had installed on my oldHDDs I brought with me from Australia. They include a combo of Forgotten battles and Pacific Fighters. The original post interested me. However, back to the quote: A small number of us are still flying European Air war online at Gameranger. I have just posted a link to the EAW 1.40 update in the EAW forum here. If you are interested check out the EAW forum at SimHQ too. Jel -
Use the DirSetExeManager to make these selections. In 1.40 a planeset must be selected so select Planeset1 even though it is the only one available. Jel

Screenies from the EAW 1.29 version with a limited target area (256x160 tiles instead of 640x320) Multiskin files are used- note the numbers of these two Camels These planes fly faster than they ever did, and some of the others reach over 300 mph. That is the big problem. When we reduced the speeds of some of the bombers to realistic levels they never achieved enough lift to take off. This is why, despite all the marvellous work that has been done, we have not released TWF. I am working on a limited planeset version for EAW 140- there may be only 6-8 planes, but we should be able to enjoy some credible multiplayer games. Jel

I downloaded it and seeing the filenames I correctly guessed that it was for 640x480 selection screens and set it up to fly in 1.28c Some nice screens, ground objects and skins, but that is it. The aircraft selection has the default aircraft names (Spit 1a etc) The ETO flight models are used as there are no flight model files are provided. The hangar files are the default ones as none are provided. I have just been flying the default EAW planes, doing WW2 missions over the default terrain at speeds sometimes exceeding 300 mph wearing WW1 skins. In my last test mission I was effectively flying a Spit IX wearing the skin of a WW1 bi-plane. Sorry, but there is much more to EAW than this. Sadly this is not a WW1 mod. EDIT: Further checking as a result of graphical problems with the aircraft in the Ju88a slot shows that files from a beta version of the yet to be released "The Western Front" scenario which is still under development have been included in this download. No permission was sought, and none would be given at this juncture. The details of the files match exactly the ones in my beta version of TWF for the 1.29 platform.

This is the slot free version of EAW which we have been playing online at GameRanger. It also allows instant missions, single missions and careers, so it is not multiplayer specific. There are now six mission types, with the addition of torpedo strikes. Rather than post a heap of details here, I suggest readers who want to get more information visit the SimHQ EAW forum and check recent posts containing "140" in their title. Jel

A quick switch to SAW, for an evening interception: Jel

These pictures are made flying EAW140 to demonstrate the way we play the game these days This is my 140Online folder There is no "eaw.exe", but if you check there are a number of scenario folders, several "Planes" folders, a very important utilty named "DirSetExeManagerV5", and two folders that it uses- "DirSets" and "EAW Versions" Running it displays the available exes, and the available scenarios. When a scenario is selected the planesets in it are listed for selection. Switching back you can see that the folder now contains an "eaw.exe" and a "Dir.set" file as a result of the selections I made. Note that I selected "ETOBargeTrain" Then we run the exe: Select a 190A6 for a mixed interdiction: Target London: Note that we can also set the day and month, hour and minute, and base our selection on the times of sunrise and sunset. We have moving barges on the Thames: Because there is a "Seasons" folder in the "ETO140" folder containing seasonal terrains, we got a winter terrain based on the mission being set for 15th January. With this system and this one folder with a couple of mouseclicks we can switch between 1. Four ETO time periods by selecting the planeset, including Russian planes later in the war. 2. A repeat of 1 but with barges and multi-track rail lines added. 3. Moggy's Middle East- IRAQ1941 4. Desert Air War (DAW) 5. Spanish Air War (SAW) 6. South Pacific Air War (SPAW) and 7. South Pacific Air War 1945 (SPAW45) Other than the "eaw.exe" and the "Dir.set" file, no other files are moved into the root folder. I am away in Lyon currently, so these pictures were taken on my Vista Laptop, running the d3dwindower Jel

Jordi I sent a reply to your question in an email yesterday to the address shown for you here in your profile. Stary I have seen pictures of corrupted screens, and occasionally get them myself. In only one case reported to me has a player had in-game screen corruption problems. So I am curious about the graphical anomalies that you encountered. The most common ones occur with selection screens. The least troublesome are pixellated screens which are still readable and eventually get you into the game. Why this works I do not know, but the problem seems to be fixed by selecting "Multiplayer" then "tcp/ip" then clicking cancel when prompted to enter the IP address, and Esc to get back to the mainscreen. The more troublesome is screentearing, when you get a mainscreen that is unreadable and making selection impossible. Currently I am running EAW on a Vista laptop and a Windows 7 desktop. If I run 1.2 on the desktop I get the 7217 error If I run later versions I get a corrupted map screen in single mission mode when I want to set the target or home base. Both these problems are fixed if I run EAW via the d3d windower. The d3d windower does not work as well in Win 7 for multiplayer games as it does in Vista and earlier operating systems. However, I still host games online at Gameranger without it because the 1.28 and later versions of the eaw.exe have a 7217 workaround, and the multiplayer screens are all readable with no corruption at all. Hi-Res P-47D-RE-11 Razorback Thunderbolt
Jel replied to Spectre8750's topic in EAW - File Announcements
I downloaded it and used it in EAW 1.2 and EAW 1.29, plus the conversion I made for EAW 1.40. The first thing I tried was the 1.40 version, hoping to get some screenies, but I had a problem of a CTD as soon as I hit F9 to get an external view. Hence, I went back to use the non-converted files in 1.29, got the same problem, and again in EAW 1.2 when I tried it. The source of the problem is somewhere in the "PP47CG.3DZ" which references the "PP47CGEX.TPC" in its header. If I run without the "PP47CG.3DZ" file I can use F9 but there is an incomplete plane showing. If I make it reference a different texture the F9 CTD occurs. Jel -

Hi ezlead I am running all versions of EAW that I have using the d3d windower, including the 1.2 version. If I do not, then any pre 1.28 versions give me the 7217 error. I see you are in my friends list at GameRanger. We are flying 1.40 there just about every day. Check the posts at SimHQ ;)

It is still some way off due to hold ups, mainly with the tilemap and target placement section, and flight modelling. Some 3dz work also needs to be done. Most of the screens and skins have been done, hence there are often pictures shown of how the aircraft will look, but they might be using a WW2 flight model just to check out the appearance in the game. ;)

new graphic card and EAW will not work anymore
Jel replied to Gepard's topic in EAW - General Discussions
I just contacted Gepard and a new monitor fixed the problem. We have no idea why or how. Jel -

I have it running very well on Windows7. I had it running on Windows8 too but there is a frame rate problem. Even the old 1.2 version runs on Windows 7 if you use the d3d windower to avoid the 7217 error.

Check out the EAW forum at SimHQ. The selection screen colour problem is often fixed by selecting multiplayer => TCP/IP then click cancel in the IP adress entry box, and then click cancel again in the very next screen to exit multiplayer. Why this works, and it does in most cases, we have no idea Jel

EAW 1.28 E download links This is the first version of EAW ever to break the constriction caused by the "30 slot single files" (such as "planes.dat and "loadout.dat") It uses 1024x768 selection screens. Jel
