Saab 37 Viggen(*) by The Scandinavian Front & Friends. The Saab 37 Viggen ("Thunderbolt", ambiguous with "Tufted duck") is a Swedish single-seat, single-engine, short-medium range combat aircraft, manufactured between 1970 and 1990. Several distinctive variants were produced to perform the roles of strike fighter (AJ37), maritime patrol aircraft (SH 37) and all-weather fighter-interceptor aircraft (JA 37). In the late 1990s, all Viggens was updated to the multirole version (AJS 37). The last flight with the Viggen (AJS 37, AJSH & SK 37E Jammers) was done in 2005 with all airplanes replaced by the Saab 39 Gripen. This package contains Four Flyable and One AI Aircraft Saab AJ 37 Viggen Attack version with limited fighter capacity. In service between 1971 and 1998. This aircraft carried the now-famous splinter camo that is the dread of skinners and model makers worldwide. Saab JA 37 Viggen Fighter version introduced in 1980 with new engine, entirely different avionics and an internal gun. Stayed in service until 2004 when it was replaced with the Saab 39 Gripen. Saab JA 37D Viggen Upgraded JA 37 with RB 99 Amraam capacity introduced in 1997. All was taken out of service in 2004. Saab AJS 37 Viggen The last and most capable version with lessions learned from the JAS 39 Program. 48 Viggens was updated to this standard and they stayed in service from 1991 to 2005. Saab SH 37 Viggen (AI Only) Maritime Patrol Version with potent attack capacity against maritime targets. In Service from 1975 to 1996. INSTALLATION: Download this package and unzip into a folder of your choice, preferably one easy to access. Visit the DAT site and download their Viggen package. You will only need the Cockpit folder as well as the LOD and OUT files. The airplane will not work without them. Move the Cockpit Folder and the LOD and OUT files from the DAT package into this unextracted package - Viggen R3 goes into the JA 37 and AJS 37 Folders; Viggen R1 into the AJ 37 and SH 37 Folders. Copy the package into your Mod Folder. Have fun. Guardians of the GUIK Gap Submarine Hunters of the Atlantic Year: 1979 Flyable Services: French Navy Carrier Operations: Yes Naval Combat: ASW / Convoy Attacks Ground War Scale: None What to expect: A lot of flying over Open Water looking for Subs. September 1979. As the Soviet Army invades West Germany, an entire division of Soviet Airborne troops parachute onto Iceland. As the US Navy moves to recapture the Island (Operation Northern Sabre) the French is asked by NATO to guard the GIUK Gap against Soviet Forces. As a Alizé pilot, you are to prevent any submarines from attacking the Clemenceau, sink enemy transports bringing reinforcements to Iceland and work alongside your squadron to secure victory for NATO in this vital sector. Honneur, patrie, valeur, discipline! Please note: This campaign is best played with visual and targeting aids on difficult setting. It becomes a tad too easy otherwise. Installation: This mod requires Strike Fighters 2 North Atlantic and Strike Fighters 2 Vietnam OR French F-8E (FN) Crusader DLC. Install into the Strike Fighters 2 Mod Folder of your choice, usually found at C:\Users\YOURNAME\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFigthers2 While this Campaign and assets are made to work together with other minor campaigns and mods, I cannot guarantee compatibility. Allow overwrites or use a separate folder. For credits, please read (and actually do it too!) the file named "Credits". I could not do what I do without all these talented people! -

PLEASE BE AWARE; This release of TSF 2 is unpolished and is to be considered a Beta version. In short, there will be bugs and not all of them have been found. Unless things change significantly, there will not be more releases. Please read the letter below to understand why. If you just want the SK 60 or the Saab 37 Viggen - look in the Aircraft section. If not posted there, they will be posted there shortly. A letter from the Project Leader: My name is Jonathan and I am the project leader of The Scandinavian Front. I want to apologize that I will not be living up to the vision I had for The Scandinavian Front. The reason for this is because between my new full time job and all my other projects, TSF 2 fell by the wayside. This is not fair to TSF nor is it fair to you. This is to be considered a Beta release. It has bugs. The Campaigns have not been fully balanced. But it is a playground that you can play around with - just like always. But this will be the Final Release of TSF 2. I sat down one too many times trying to make it perfect and I will have to accept that TSF 2 may never be. Maybe some day I will sit down and release a patch to bring it up to speed. But today is not that day. I want to thank all the fans of TSF 2 for their support during this time. It has been invaluble. I also want to thank AngelP, Stary, Ravenclaw and my mate Paulopanz who have been there for me to make this mod what it is today. Without them, I could never have made this dream. Do not blame them for the unpolished state of this release, they gave me their all and I am very grateful. FEATURES Fly and fight with Aircraft from the Scandinavian Air Forces, including the legendary Saab lineup of aircraft in combat against the Soviet Union in multiple scenarios from 1950 to 2014. Campaigns include several intensive conflicts, training missions and a virtual museum allowing you to follow a Swedish Flottilj for most of its history! Now at last - Saab SK60 and Saab 37 Viggen are avalible to fly in TSF 2 alongside - for the first time - Soviet Aircraft in service of the fictionalFinno-Soviet Republic! More AI Aircraft to fly with or against! Updated Terrain Tiles, Weapons and Menu Screens. Optimized code; unused and outdated assets removed. Installation: This mod requires SF2: Europe. SF2 North Atlantic, Expansion Pack 1 and DLC 008 J 34 Hawker Hunter is highly recommended. Please be aware that without SF2 North Atlantic, at least two Campaigns will be unavalible. First of all, make sure you are using SF2: Europe and that it is patched to the latest version. This is _vital_. Check Thirdwire.com if you are unsure what the latest patch is, but the game should notify you if there is new patches out. Delete ANY PRIOR TSF MOD INSTALLATION! This is vital as items has been renamed, moved or otherwise changed. If you are using a mod, or plan to use one, TSF will mess around with settings other mods may be using. As such, creating a seperate mod folder for TSF is a good idea. If you only plan to use TSF, then this step can be bypassed. Go to your installation folder (Usually C:\Program Files\Thirdwire\Strike Fighters 2). Make a copy of Strike Fighters 2.exe / Strike Fighters 2 Europe.exe depending on what you prefer and got installed. Name the Copy Strike Fighters 2 TSF.exe . Start your new .exe once, then close the game. Now go to your Mod Folders. For Windows 7/Vista, this is located in C:\Users\Name\Saved Games\Thirdwire. For Windows XP Users, it is usually in My Documents. Download ALL THE FILES into THE SAME FOLDER and Unzip TSF2_Final from TSF2_FinalPack.7z.001. You need 7z or Winrar to do this. Unzip the contents of the 7zip files "TSF2_Final" into the mod folder of your choice. If you do not own Strike Fighters 2: North Atlantic, then unzip "Unzip if you do not have SF NA.7z". Read the Readme included and follow it to the letter. If you own Strike Figthers 2 Expansion Pack 1, unzip "Install if you do not have SF NA.7z". Allow any overwrites. If you own DLC 008 J 34 Hawker Hunter, unzip "Install if you have DLC 008 J 34 Hawker Hunter.7z". Allow any overwrites. If you own DLC 028, unzip "Install_if_you_have_DLC28.7z". Allow any overwrites. The Scandinavian Front J 35 Draken Flygvapnet Package By Team TSF & Friends The Saab 35 Draken (English: "Kite") was a Swedish fighter aircraft manufactured by Saab between 1955 and 1974. The Draken was built to replace the Saab J 29 Tunnan and, later, the fighter variant (J 32B) of the Saab 32 Lansen. The indigenous J 35 was an effective supersonic Cold War fighter that was also successfully exported to Austria, Denmark and Finland. Please note: We lack a proper "Early" Draken Model, and as such, the A/B versions are incorrect and use the same 3D Model as the 35D/F/J versions. If you already have the TSF Mega Package, you will only find minor edits, weapons as well as the J 35J to be new to this package. Hence, it is worth grabbing. F-8E Crusader (“מָגֵן”) As October of 1973 progressed, one thing was clear. While Israel did not lose the Yom Kippur War, nor were they winning it. New Soviet air defence systems delivered to the Arab nations had taken a heavy toll on the Israeli Air Force and desperate reinforcements were needed. The United States, eager to assist their new ally in the middle east began an air bridge to supply ammunition, ordinance, airframes and spare parts to replace the vast quantities of material lost in the battles. On the 29th of October, the USS Hancock was given an unprecedented order - to proceed at once to the Red Sea where the entirety of Air Wing 21 - consisting of three Skyhawk Squadrons and two Crusader Squadrons - would be flown to Israel and the airframes loaned to the Israeli Air Force to replace losses. On the 1st of November, Air Wing took off from the Hancock, armed with ordinance for self-defence and began their journey towards Air Bases in Israel. The Air Forces of Egypt and Jordan interpreted this as an Alpha Strike, aimed at their Air Forces and scrambled several squadrons to intercept. However, direct US entry into the war was averted as radar monitors noticed the air group's heading was directly towards Israel Airspace and intercepting aircraft was recalled home. At first, the Israeli Air Force met their new gift of Crusaders with some confusion and apprehension, having never operated the type before but U.S Navy pilots - now stranded in a country at war - was eager to provide expertise and assistance, serving as impromptu flight instructors and it is believed that up to a third of the airplanes was indeed crewed by volunteer US Navy Pilots. While this was never admitted by the United States, it was never denied either and in later years, many ex-Navy pilots have come forward and told of their experiences of flying in the war. The other two thirds was made up of older Israeli active reserve pilots, more used to flying Mysteres and Mirages. This experience proved to be beneficial transferring to the Crusader. The Crusaders would not go to form any squadrons of their own in the Israeli Air Force, rather they were spread out to work together with Skyhawk Squadrons, acting as fighter escorts and decoy aircraft, using their speed and maneuverability to escape situations that would be tricky for the Skyhawks to handle. The pairing worked well and casualties in Skyhawk Squadrons were quickly reduced to manageable levels, earning the Crusaders their Israeli nickname of מָגֵן or “Guardian”. In Israeli service, they would have a kill ratio of ten to one with pilots often preferring to fly the aircraft without any external ordinance, relying on the four 20mm guns to engage and destroy the target. While the guns in US Navy service was considered unreliable, there are oddly enough few such reports from the Israeli Air Force. Rather, the airframes quirks were spoken of fondly as something to work with rather than being a hindrance. The gun sights especially were praised and similar systems would be installed in both A-4 Skyhawks and F-4 Phantoms after the war's end. On the 28th of November, a Ceasefire agreement was put into place with the Israelis making moderate land gains, gains that would lead to the 1978 Camp David Accords that became the first peace treaty between Israel and Egypt. On the 15th of December, surviving aircraft of Air Wing 21 left Israel and were flown by their air crews to the USS Intrepid on what would be the last cruise of the Essex Class Carrier with the pilots that no longer had airframes to fly were flown to the ship by Israeli Navy Helicopters. With the Crusaders showing wear and tear after both their Vietnam and Middle East adventures, the majority of them were destined to be scrapped. However, the Israeli Air Force intervened, purchasing ten airplanes with six being donated to military museums across the country and four others being positioned as Gate Guardians outside the Ramat David, Nevatim, Hatzerim and Hatzor Air Bases where they remain to this day. Even with Skyhawks no longer flying from the bases, pilots of the Israeli Air Force have come to regard the Crusaders with a reverence and it is not uncommon to see groups of pilots stand in silent attention in front of them before embarking on a mission. Participating in the cleaning and maintenance of them is also considered mandatory and a way to create good unit cohesion. It does however also make the pilots fiercely protective of their good luck charms. When the gate guardian of Ramat David Air Base was vandalised by a group of teenagers, the local air group intervened to provide a special punishment for the vandals; scrubbing hangars with tiny brushes with helpful suggestions of pilots and staff at the base. In the end, the מָגֵן of Ramat David seemed to be both forgiving and with a sense of humour as several years later, the teenagers would do their military service in the Israeli Air Force. All of the former vandals became aircraft mechanics at their own request, serving with skill and diligence at the Ramat David Air Base.

Help fund the Strike Fighters 2 Windows 10 update!
JonathanRL replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters Series News
I have questions. 1: I have run Windows 10 for a while and do not experience problems with SF2. Are there any here who do? 2: 25 Large for a compatibility update seems like a lot of money. All the other features appears to be if he gets more than that. 3: Have TK considered alternate methods such as releasing on GoG.com, Humble Store, Epic Steam or Steam? 4: Have TK considered to lower the price of his products? One game still costs as much as a DCS Module on sale? I would be happy to donate if it meant SF2 got a significant update with a clear list of features. But now it all seems far too vague.- 139 replies

Operation Pirate Politics (Turkey-Greece)
JonathanRL posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
It was the coup of the Century. And they could not tell anybody. It simply was not in their line of work to tell the world about their dealings. They told others, and others acted. In this case, those who acted on their words was enemies, yet did not know their enemies had whispered in their ear. Their true enemy. The GRU officer smiled and spoke a single code word into the radio. Two places in the Mediterranean intercepted it, ears who listened for this very keyword. And they spoke to those who would listen on either side. Hate is easy. Hate is simple. Hate is in the core of human nature. And Hate is like petrol. All you need is to light a match, and you can set the world on fire. On Airbases, Aircraft are loaded. Outside Harbours, ships are under way into position. On Cyprus, militiamen and hidden commandos prepare themselves for the coming battle. For this is the match. Not just one. Two. Because it never hurts to be on the safe side... -

Operation Formosa Freedom By JonathanRL Year: 1959 Flyable Services: US Air Force, US Navy, Republic of China Air Force Carrier Operations: Yes Naval Combat: Yes Ground War Scale: Medium Cheese / Ham Sandwich Included: No Hey, Paulopanz. This one is for you. Consider it a Thank-You for all you done for TSF ! Summary: September, 1959 The Peoples Republic of China increases their rethoric against their wayward province Taiwan, on the Island of Formosa. For the purpose of "peace and order" in the region, they demand that Formosa shall surrender its independence. Meanwhile, both US and Taiwan intelligence services declare the probability of actual invasion to be low. Intimidated by the massive bomber armada of the PRC, the Goverment of Taiwan requests US Aid who comes swiftly in the shape of several Interceptor Squadrons. Two Carrier Groups in the Pacific are also ordered to converge on Formosa; bolstering the strike capacity of the Island. The worst fear of the Taiwanese people is confirmed as Amphibious Regiments are spotted outside the coast of the outer islands. This will be one of the fierest ground, air and naval war in history. Will Formosa fall before US Marines arrive to relive the defenders? Installation: Required: Strike Fighters 2 Europe Strike Fighters 2 Vietnam Recommended: A-4A DLC Expansion Pack 1 First of all, make sure you are using the required packages merged and that it is patched to the latest version. This is _vital_. Check http://www.thirdwire.com if you are unsure what the latest patch is, but the game should notify you if there is new patches out. If you are using a mod, or plan to use one, This mod will mess around with settings other mods may be using. As such, creating a seperate mod folder for Formosa is a good idea. If you only plan to use Formosa on your main installation, then this step can be bypassed. Go to your installation folder (Usually C:\Program Files\Thirdwire\Strike Fighters 2). Make a copy of Strike Fighters 2.exe / Strike Fighters 2 Europe.exe depending on what you prefer and got installed. Name the Copy Strike Fighters 2 Formosa.exe . Start your new .exe once, then close the game. Now go to your Mod Folders. For Windows 7/Vista, this is located in C:\Users\Name\Saved Games\Thirdwire. For Windows XP Users, it is usually in My Documents. Unzip the contents of the 7zip file "Formosa" into the mod folder of your choice. Allow any overwrites. If you own Expansion Pack 1, unzip the file "Optimal" into the same Mod Folder to install correct skins for the J-2. Enjoy! (Yes, I take requests. Just make them reasonable...) I think you should try and contact ED about the P-40 and request a refund - or at the very least store credit. -
