  1. Great movie. Saw it back in 73, in the base theatre at Pax River. For those of you who have never seen it, "The Last Detail" is a movie about two sailors who take another sailor to the brig, after he was convicted of stealing. The entire movie is about their adventures on the way to the brig. Jack Nicholson plays a SN1 (Signalman, First Class). He does a very convincing job of it too, and the language in the movie is quite typical of the times. Chief W.
  2. I installed the new screen, and it looks great! Thanks!!!! Chief W.
  3. You call that teasing? That is torture! Bring on the Crusader and its baby brother, the Corsair! Chief W.
  4. I concur with all the positive comments. This site is without question the best of its kind. I am so thankful to MJ and all the moderators for all the hard work that has gone into creating this site. To everyone who contributes to this fine site....thank you too! Chief Ward
  5. I bought Hasagawa models way back in 75 that I haven't built yet. An A-7 Corsair, A-6 Intruder, and an RA-5C Vigilante. Maybe some day I will get around to building them! Chief
  6. Perhaps, but oh,....the graphics!!! A nuke dropped on North Korea......yeah, that's the ticket! Chief
  7. This question has probably already been answered, but being an old retired type, I'm not known for my attentiveness! Are nukes being developed for the game? Now THAT would pose a graphics challenge, eh? Hehehehe..... Chief W.
  8. Hey MJ If I sounded a little too whiny, I didn't mean to! To be honest, SFP1 is the sim I spend almost most of my gaming time with, and everything else is in a "oh, by the way" status. I don't care so much if all of my controls work with the sim or not, but I just don't like using the keyboard for playing, period. I am truly spoiled, when it comes to gameplay with sims. Joysticks, pedals, and throttles are the way to go....speaking for myself, that is! Chief
  9. Well, I was able to get the engines started, using the "e" key, but my joystick controls are not being recognized at all. I foresee an UNINSTALL of Fair Strike from my hard drive in the very near future. Chief
  10. Yep, The CH Pro USB Pedals have toe brakes, and I know for a fact that they work with FS 2000, and 2002. I just wondered if there is a way to get them to work with SFP1. Chief
  11. Has anyone out there been able to use pedals for braking? Just bein' curious. I know that MS Flight Simulator recognizes pedals for braking, but never thought about using them with SFP1. I am using CH Pro USB Pedals. Chief
  12. Well, I give up. I did find the option to change to the Simulator mode, but my joysitck input is not recognized at all. I can't get the helo to go up at all. Perhaps someone out there has had more success than I have? Chief
  13. Hey all I stumbled upon a really great site; especially for those who are looking for old military training movies. It is a company that specializes in VHS copies of exactly that. And believe me, they have a large selection too. For those of you who are looking for such things, go see this site. There is a lot of training videos for many aircraft; i.e. Crusader, Phantom, Vigilante, etc... Even saw a movie made about Pax River, one year before I reported there. http://www.militaryvideo.com/store/store.cfm Chief
  14. I saw a review on the Demo. The article stated the game does have two separate gameplay settings: Arcade and Simulation. Yet I could not find reference to them in the options menu. If anyone knows more about this, please post. Chief
  15. Hey Amourdave Well, naturally I would have to say either ATKRON Fifteen (VA-15) Valions, or ATKRON Eight-Three (VA-83) Rampagers; since I was in both of them. As for a composite squadron? Well, just a thought, but what about a composite squadron made up of F-4s, A-7s, F-8s, A-6s, .....all from the Vietnam Era? US Navy, of course, hehehehe... That way, the aircraft from other squadrons would be considered on "detachment" to forward deployed units? Thinking out loud is all. Chief W.
  16. Ok, I downloaded it. So far looks good, but cannot figure out how to get it to recognize joystick movements. Am using CH Combatstick. The demo doesn't provide much for options concerning controllers at all. If they want us to really check out the game, I hope there is a way to use my controllers. Keystrokes ain't gonna do it. Chief W.
  17. I just rented the first four parts of this miniseries. It is one of the best I ever seen. Highly recommend it. Chief W.
  18. I am running a Ge Force 4 4200 Ti. I downloaded the latest drivers from Nvidia, but I do have a question. There are so many different settings available. Can anyone out there tell me what settings I should make for optimum game play? Chief W. P.S. please put your suggestions in simple terms, eh? I am NOT that savvy when it comes to 'puter stuff!!!
  19. In 1980, the movie, "The Final Countdown" was released. It is the fictitious story of the USS Nimitz being transported back in time to just before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Obviously, the opportunities for a change to history made this quite an intriguing plot, to say the least. I saw this movie when it first came out, and loved it. Naturally, being a Navy man, I nitpicked every technical flaw I could find, but I still enjoyed it immensely! Not too long ago, the DVD version was released. Every single message I have read concerning it says DO NOT BUY the current release of the movie in DVD format. The resolution is reportedly horrible, along with the sound. I really do hope that a better copy is on the horizon. It really is a good movie, in my opinion. I would like to get my hands on a decent VHS copy of the movie, if anyone out there has one. Thanks, Chief W.
  20. Yup, NAS Oceana, to be precise. I understand that NAS Oceana is where the squadrons from NAS Cecil Field, FL moved from, when Cecil was closed, due to BRAC. I spent 9 years at Cecil, attached to three separate squadrons: VA-15, VFA-106, and VA/VFA-83. Chief W.
  21. Found these this morning, while surfin'. Chief W.
  22. An A-7 squadron? Now that would create a dilemma for me, at least. Much as I love the Phantom, I am oh, so loyal to the A-7 Corsair, having been in three squadrons with them. Perhaps someone needs to create a composite squadron.... Go NAVAIR! Chief
  23. Thanks for the news, Column5! So many new aircraft on the way, and more skins! Makes this old Navy Chief a happy man! Chief
  24. Hey Skipper, Where are you? The Pukin' Dogs are in dire need of practice! Virtual dets to Fallon, Rosy Roads, or Key West wouldn't hurt either! Hope to hear from you soon, shipmate! Chief W. P.S. all jets washed, oiled, and fueled on the Line. Time to turn and burn!
