Kevin, The Indian B(I)58 was the Indian version of RAF's B(I)8 bomber. The Indian version was the same as RAF version except that Indian version had a tail facing Orange Putter RWR(ajunaidr's model has this RWR). A mistake that ajunaidr has done on EE Canberras is that he has put four plyons on each wing, whereas the EE Canberras had just one pylon in the wing(also the pylon is much smaller in size) and on that pylon, bombs, rockets could be loaded. I am not really sure whether this holds true for the Martin Canberras as well. Also, ther was no Canberra B.2 in Indian service. They were actually B.66s(bought after the 1965 war), Indian version of the RAF B(I)6, which again could carry the ventral gunpack As for your Gunpack question. The B(I)8/58 could carry a ventral 4x20mm gunpack. The detachable gunpack was carried outside the bomb-bay, as shown in the pic. However, when the gunpack was carried no bombs could be loaded in the bomb bay. The wing mounted guns must be removed. The EE Canberras never had them. In the weps pack, check out Bunyap's 4000-lb Block buster bomb that was carried in the bomb bay of the EE Canberra. In 1961, when Canberra B(I)58s went to Congo in support of UN, they carried only guns, no bombs were carried as UN did not allow them. Indian Canberras managed to attack and destory Katangan Air Force installations and aircraft just with their guns. Until a few years ago, Indian Hinds were forbidden from carrying bombs and rockets, they could only use thir cannons in Congo while flying escort for UN Helicopters. If you need any more info, let me know .I will be glad to help. P.S. BR is working fine

Right. The Pakistani F-104s scored more hits with bombs then F-86s and B-57s. One many missions, their F-104s did not carry any bombs and carried out harassing gun attacks on Indian airfields(one a couple of occaisions, with disastrous effect for Pakistanis and Jordanians). They used their F-104Bs in possibly the most unusual and crazy type of photo-recon missions.

The Naval LCA is under development, and the twin seater will act as a lead-in to the Naval LCA. Launch speed over a 12º ramp is 100 knots and recovery speed during a no-flare deck landing using arrester gear is 120 knots http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/NAVY/LCA.html This aircraft is being designed to operate through ski-jump for taking off operations and arrested landing with the nose drooped for better cockpit vision. Among aerodynamics improvements are fore planes to reduce landing speed. -

Done. Looking forward to your J-11. Indian Su-30s versus PLAAF J-11s over the Himalayas will be great fun . Atreides saab, PV-3 flew recently. I have seen pics of twin seater and LSP LCA aircraft on the production lines in the recent edition of Vayu magazine. The LCA is progressing well. the first sqdn powered by American GE F404-IN20 engines is expected to be operational in 2010, with acceptance trails of the Tejas by the IAF in Dec. 2008. Apart fom the single seat LCA, twin seat combat capable trainer and Naval LCA are being built as well. Pusing HAL & DRDO to complete the LCA project won't help at all. Remember HF-24 "Marut"..quite capable but never reached its full potential. Good Read on the LCA: Radiance of the Tejas -

Video of Su-30MKI from startup to return and parking - Real Media format- requires real player...The engine sound can be recorded and used in game. Sparker, Research work is going on to integrate the BrahMos with the Su-30MKI. Trials of the BrahMos with the Su-30 are slated to begin in 2008, acc.to Director of BrahMos Aerospace. The pic of the BrahMos slung under the Su-30 is Photoshop work. -

Marcelo, Any chance of replicating this bomb loadout on the Su-30MKI(12XFAB-250s)? Sparker, The air-to surface version of the Brahmos cruise missile for the Su-30MKI has not yet been made. The surface to surface missile is operational with frontline warships of the Indian Navy and some units of the Indian Army. The Air to surface version of the Brahmos will be much smaller that can be slung under the centerline pylon of the Su-30MKI. The Anti-ship missles used by the IAF on Su-30MKI are Kh-31A2(AS-17 Krypton) and Kh-59M(AS-18 Kazoo).I have got a pic of a Kh-31 being mounted on the wing of a 20 Sqdn Su-30MKI. -

Su-30MK2V: Su-30MK2 variant for Vietnam with minor modifications. Su-30MKM: Export version for Malaysia , The Su-30MKM is an export version that has been ordered by the Royal Malaysian Air Force. This highly specialised version is similar to the MKI, but will principally be equipped with French and Russian avionics. It will feature head-up and multifunction displays from the Thales Group and Sagem of France, as well as the Russian BARS NIIP N011M radar, which is equipped with Indian computers. Su-30MKV: Export version for Venezuela ,The export version that will serve in Venezuela's air force is most likely to be similar to the Su-30MK2. This is based on the presence of two such demonstrator models (No. 0460 and No. 1259) from the KNAAPO facility that took part in July 2006 national day parade in Caracas. http://racc.com.sapo.pt/MilIlYak/su27ub30/ -

The MKI version is equipped with Canards and TVC Nozzles. Su-30MKI : Canard Foreplanes:Canards are installed to increase lifting effectiveness and enhance manoeuvrability of the aircraft, They are deflected automatically to ensure controllable flight at high angles-of-attack. Thrust Vectoring Control: The 2D TVC makes an aircraft highly maneuverable. The aircraft is capable of near-zero airspeed at high angles of attack and dynamic aerobatics in negative speeds up to 200 km/h. Su-30MKI becomes the worlds first TVC equipped operational Fighter. The N011-M Bars phased array Radar is the most powerful Russian Radar on any exported Fighter. A multi-national Avionics complex sourced from Russia, France,Israel and India which include Display, Navigation, Targeting and Electronic warfare systems. The Su-30 MKI has a maximum range, with one in-flight refuelling, of 8000 km. The Su-30MK and Su-30MK-1 have a maximum range, with one in-flight refuelling, of 5200 km (35% less than MKI variant). More than 40 Su-30 MKI aircraft are currently serving in the IAF, and belong to different batches- Mk.1, Mk.2 and Mk.3. 190 Su-30 MKIs, of Mk.3 standards and beyond, are expected to be in service by 2012. Aerodynamics Su-30MKI aerodynamic configuration is an unstable longitudinal triplane. The canard increases the aircraft lifting and deflects automatically to allow high angle-of-attack flights. The integral aerodynamic configuration combined with thrust vectoring results in practically unlimited manoeuvrability and unique taking off and landing characteristics. The Su-30MKI has no level winged AoA limitations: it can fly at even 180 degree AOA (Angle of attack) and still recover. This high super-agility allows rapid deployment of weapons in any direction as desired by the crew. The canard notably assists in controlling the aircraft at large angles of attack (AoA) and bringing it to a level flight condition. The wing will have high-lift devices featured as deflecting leading edges and flaperons acting the flaps and ailerons. Youtube videos on SU-30MKI, interview with CO of No.20 Sqdn and its pilots. -

The Russians had initially offered the single seat MiG-29M and/or twin seat MiG-29M2 as their contender for the IAF MRCA race. Soon after they tested the MiG-29OVT with Thrust vectorc nozzles. They then offered the MiG-29M and M2 as the MiG-35 for the IAF MRCA race. Both single seat as well as twin seat MiG-35s are in India along side F/A-18F, F-16 and Gripen. -
