3rd Party DCS Modules
SkateZilla replied to Dave's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
i gotz money in nevada and FC3 everything else is "when its released" status. Now, ED must provide me with something to keep me around for the 12-24 months it was projected to take those projects to complete. A F-18C or something would be nice :p Working MP with no issues, A-10s, F-15s, Flankers, Frogfoots, Tanks,.... As long as they fix the MP Crash issues in DCSW, I'll be good. -

most of the projects are projected to take 12-24 months. For the F-22/F-15 they are showing screen shots of the external model using a stripped down LAU File. None of the systems are coded. Even I have models in game using stripped LUA Files. -

I like the Dark Grey F-16s too, makes them look even meaner. -

Just Fooling around, getting my bearings in the Exporter, technically they are screenshots, as they use the DCSW/ED Engine to render :p Dont ask me why parts of the SuperBug have the black faces, (UV Map issue that shows up in ED but not in MAX or TW), Apparently LOD2 doesnt have it though). -

yup, same old re-distribution with a different name, even though most of the footage is FSX.

Im gone, but I'll be back.... -
the nimitz was in SF1 a looooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago? like 2006ish. from Beta .3 -> 1.0 CVW-3 was so long because I had 2 jobs and I had moved to an apartment, so between 2 jobs and other things I had about 4 hours a week MAYBE to work on stuff. Im down to 1 hourly job now so I have more time on the weekends.

i dont intend to do any jets for DCSW, i was just trying to figure out the exporter with a model less complex than my carrier, I started with some simpler low poly untexturted models, and they imported fine, but the Axes were off, Then i moved up to working on getting a model with textures to export correctly, \ So I adjusted the Axes, and did the "texture cooling" that's in the ED tool, Exported. Model was oriented correctly, but it was like a mirror, super reflective, back to the FAQ on EDs boards. So I opened each texture in the Material Editor, and Set the Reflection map to 0, No More super Shiney Model, but canopy class was still solid. So, Then set the canopy to the pre-set "glass" material from the EDM Tool, Exported, put the textures in the ModelViewer TempTexture Folder, and it loaded the model fine, with a few errors on the model, but there's exporter options to fix those. Also Imported/Merged one of the Seats i downloaded from here. Now I'd Just have to look at Lights, Animations, Etc. I was gonna use the F-18C as a Base, but I have no idea where ED hides the AI Planes LAU files. I'm just fooling around with the EDM Exporter in my free time to see what works and what doesn't. Looking at the Error Log from when I tried to export the Entire CVN model, it does not Like SPLINES (lines) at All. so those would all have to be converted to meshes. So far though, even without contacting ED Directly, between the FAQs on their boards, the exporter logs, and the model viewer, the learning curve for exporting to DCS is alot friendlier. The Export Tools help a ton, then its just a matter of learning the LAU Files. AFMs require crazy complex physics and engineering equations...

I think EA said somewhere that Jane's owned the Rights to the "Fighters" line. and the last 3 titles Janes put out were utter garbage, JASF was not even 70% complete in it's retail state. as for Carriers in DCS:W, there's 2 with the model being already done and imported into the engine, so I prolly wont bother with fighting their exporter for mine, but I have other Items planned for DCSW. http://forum.avsim.n...70-carl-vinson/ CoreTex was looking for members to join their team in late July for the F-18E Project. ANd they plan to show their progress sometime in the next few weeks.

yeah, old renders, with a few shape mistakes... the VTAI "Project" for DCS doesnt look to be any more accurate either (wrong shape for the BLK they are doing, but he's fixing what he can based on community feedback.) I dunno if they'll get a DCS License to publish it as a Full Module though: VTAI F-16: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=73864 Right now all of my MAX Stuff, Minus the new carrier is on my old System, I copied the entire system's HDD Contents to a Portable Drive, But the files are corrupt (USB Controller issue with the HDD, I think the HDD itself was never correctly formatted), So I have to Boot up and copy to another HDD, or move the HDDs to the new system and copy them. Either way, I’ve tried to import some things into DCS last night, and the Models lose orientation and scale when exporting for some reason, I gotta read up on exporting from Max 2011 to EDM. So right now it will be at least a year or 2 before I put anything out for DCS. SF2 on the other hand, not so much, same with 2 other engines Im building large objects for. (not limited to NAVY Carriers or things that operate inside our atmosphere., SmileyFace. ) There are 3 terrains “Done” and waiting for the Exporters from ED to be finished (And released after “EDGE/NEVADA” is done). Afghanistan is one of them.

I tried to export some models i have on my backup system, but the EDM Exporter doesnt seem to wanna work.. so.... when i open in the Model Viewer its Blank. I tried this evening to export stuff, and the scaling was off, so like i figured, once the model is complete for the engine's I'm building it for, I'll have to convert it to work with the EDM Exporter.

I'm a long way from a proof of concept for DCSW, it's being built in Max 2009 to be exported to 3 engines that havent made exporters for newer MAX Suites, TW Being one of them. Once that is done, I'll open in Max 2011 and Use the ED Tools / ModelViewer to make sure it works, then I just have to build the .LAU files, which Im still tearing apart, and looking for the LAU for the current carrier. The Hull is gonna take the longest because of reference material for the shapes and stuff are limited, I got enough pictures of the deck and Island.
