AH-1W coming for DCS?
JediMaster replied to malibu43's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Having used it in Arma 2 I'd like an AH-1Z and UH-1Y for that matter. -
AH-1W coming for DCS?
JediMaster replied to malibu43's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Seeing as DCS started with an attack helo (and we were expecting an AH-64A literally several years ago now), it's about time someone made a true Ka-50 counterpart! The AH-1F wasn't going to be it. -
RAAF poised to make strikes on ISIS
JediMaster replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
ISIS doesn't have fast jet capability, and missiles have a "carry life" or a number of hours they can be flying on an airplane before they expire due to vibration, g forces, and temp changes. To put a weapon on a plane that will never be used and wear it out, costing money, makes little sense. -
Time's Man of the Year was never a popularity contest, it was about who was the biggest story of the year, had the biggest impact. It's not supposed to be an award that's necessarily positive, more a "you should pay attention to this person" award, for good or ill.

Learjet collided with German Eurofighter during hard turn
JediMaster replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
It looks like the LJ pilots lost sight and made overly-large corrective actions to attempt to regain formation. It says the EF maintained constant motion, so if the lead plane isn't maneuvering, the trailing plane is, and they collide...says trailing plane mistake to me. -
I love Honest Trailers. The nitpicking they did for Cap America Winter Soldier was fun.

Gotta love those USAF MiG-29s.

DCS: Su-27 Flanker
JediMaster replied to MigBuster's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
No, the issue is their naming convention is confusing. There is no such thing as "DCS level". There are 2 levels of fidelity for avionics and systems and apparently 3 for flight modeling. The Su-27 used to have the simplest of both. Now the avionics aren't changing too much (but they are a bit) but the FM is moving up. It will be equivalent to the F-15C at least. EVERY plane will be called DCS: Whatever from now on, without regard to the level of modeling it has. -
Fastest Manned Flight ever....47 years ago
JediMaster replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
I had a sim over 20 years ago that had the X-15 in it, but I can't recall which it was. Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer maybe? The crappy part was the X-15 was only able to take off from the runway, there were no B-52 drops. I think you might have been able to start in the air to preserve your fuel, but still you had no chance of going too fast before you ran out of fuel. You COULD go too high, though, and the game didn't model the puffer jets that allowed control at altitude above where the control surfaces stopped functioning. So basically you'd get to Mach 5 or so and 200k ft...and start tumbling with no way to regain control. -
Is not the Raptor too much to bomb ISIL?
JediMaster replied to Stratos's topic in Military and General Aviation
Also, no amount of flight testing reveals the kinks and issues that need to be worked out like real combat does. Bringing it to a fight that is not the most difficult possible situation gives them a chance to figure things out without risking high losses. -
I wouldn't think too much about it. Now if we had pics of F-14s flying out of TTR, THAT would be something!

IL-102 Russia's competitor to the SU -25

That tailgun was REALLY optimistic... -
Yes, because it's alright if Muslims kill Muslims for whatever stupid religious minutiae they can think of, but if a NON Muslim kills one they should all unite and slaughter the non Muslims, even if the one killed was a worthless scumbag. Nothing more logical than pointless solidarity.

You just invited him to engage in his nightly ritual that he does every night between eating his Little Debbie cakes and watching Jimmy Fallon.

I started with Harpoon and Harpoon 2. Then I played Aces of the Deep, Seawolf, Carriers at War (ok, not really a sim), a little SH3, and LOTS of Dangerous Waters. I spent a lot of time with the OHP for some reason, not too much with the 60 or P-3, and a bit with the subs.

The reason will be DX11.3/12 when a game comes out that requires it. No telling what timeframe that will be...

I played so much of R6: Rogue Spear, Urban Ops, Raven Shield, Athena Sword, and Iron whatever (the free released add-on after Ubi decided it wasn't worth the money to mass produce and sell, in the days before digital distribution) that I find it hard to play them again. I overplayed them! Same with Ghost Recon and the 2 addons it had. Actually, I DO want to replay the Hidden and Dangerous games again...

I miss Alternative Nation. No, I didn't like Kennedy, but she was a small price to pay for some great alt rock bands in the 90s.
-
Cherokee Nation and Kicks were my two favorite songs of theirs, but they had other good lesser hits too. We're approaching that time when they're all going to leave us in quick succession.

Wow, it's 100 years already. I feel...old.

How do you choose a title for a military campaign
JediMaster replied to MigBuster's topic in The Pub
TS projects are usually named randomly. Just stick with that. Look at all the "Have" projects like Have Quick. Maybe they can call it Have Gun Will Travel. -
Eh, with the population having grown by 1 billion in under 20 years I don't think that's a compelling reason anymore. There is literally zero chance of negative population growth due to war losses unless it's a nuclear war, and then it doesn't matter if you're on the front or not! Now I don't think it makes sense to force women onto the frontlines, but if they want to go to say they can't is dumb. If a service is genuinely that worried about a woman not being as capable as a man, make all-female units so the ability to carry one off or fight-or-flight are not involved. However, only the most chauvinistic forces would do that I think.

What's the point of talking when neither side is listening?
