  1. A fully loaded Harrier may not be able to do a true vertical take off. In practice a short take-off is done with nozzles at around 60%. Once the fuel load is reduced and weapons are expended the aircraft weight should be reduced to the point where a vertical landing can be done. If you build a custom mission with a "low weight" Harrier (no weapons, low fuel load) you should be able to do a true vertical take off.
  2. Report to Dev Team - where?

I just ordered OFF myself so I'm curious.... Did you install the OFF patches?
  3. Just wondering.... Over the last year or so I have been SLOWLY plugging away at converting ODS to SF2 with reasonably decent results. This has been basically an exercise for myself but I would be willing to share if folks are interested. It's all in a new mods folder, of course, so packaging it would not be hard. The worst part is I need to review who contributed NEW items (like updated aircraft) and make sure everyone gets credit. Oh the other hand if there is a major effort already by other folks........
  4. OT: Thoughts on Old Gaming

My favorite sims include F-22 Total Air War, EF2000, RB3D and F-15 Strike Eagle TWO. I still play Silent Hunter ONE. I play Age of Rifles. With the advent of DoxBox and rigs that can really exploit it the world of classic games has a new lease on life. And then, of course, there is gog.com.... Good blog. Thanks for sharing.
  5. Are all the aircraft in the soviet campaign ini in the aircraft folder? That's one place to start...... I'm trying to remember what I ran into trying to convert some campaigns to SF2...
  6. Are you using the SF2E or WOE Germanyce.cat and would that matter? (there's that learning curve again.......)
  7. Dude, I hate to break it to you but it's spelled "vain". :) And not so much, really. I've learned an a lot about modding in general and SF2 in particular and have had a lot of fun in the process. And if folks keep this stuff a secret how are we supposed to know? (If I missed the SF2 ODS announcement post, forgive me.) Granted I could have asked sooner but I don't consider my time or efforts wasted by any means.
  8. Ixsapper is right and I didn't think this through. You should be able to FLY the F-16A Netz from anywhere with a merged install. You will only have Israeli markings (I think) so you may need to download some skins for the bird. The campaign is another issue and the CE is probably your best bet as mentioned already.
  9. An internal graphics card may not be the best for a game like SF2. Yes, Windows will look OK and most stuff will run but you may not get the performance you expect. I would still look at heading over to the Intel site and see if you can get updated drivers for the internal card. An it might be worth saving your money for a dedicated video card. Not a great answer but games like SF2 are graphics intensive and it may take some hardware investment to get it to run right.
  10. I gotta try this when I get some time...... Thanks for the mod....
  11. Are you talking about JUST getting the plane flyable or getting it flyable AND into the campaign? I would start by poking around the knowledge base. There are articles about making planes flyable. Not so sure about campaign info..... First question would be: Are you running a merged install of SF2I and SF2E?
  12. Combat Face ?

They don't call it SF GOLD for nothing!!
  13. So, Iranian Tomcats can fly after all

How well could these jets have been serviced? The certainly could not get parts from the US (legally). Spit and bailing wire will only get you so far with something like an F-14. Agree with Dave. Condolenses to the families. Sad to see any pilot go down.
  14. OFF and DX10

Good question but I expect it is the underlying CFS3 code that is the issue....... Unless they could find a way to change the CFS3 calls we are probably stuck with something less than DX10.
  15. Non War Bi Planes

I would take one of these..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beechcraft_Staggerwing
  16. SFP1 vs. SFP2

If you have windows 7 then, yes, the advantages of directx 10 and higher graphics are impressive. Overall the quality of the stock aircraft and cockpits is higher and the inclusion of a mission editor makes SF2 a very complete sim. I think it's been said before but I would start with SF2 Europe and go from there.
  17. Off The Beaten Path

That's pretty neat! I dunno. A Predator might fit right in!!
  18. Swordfish

The Med Air War addon for CFS3 has a nice selection of Swordfish to fly including the float version. Quite a bit of fun, actually.
  19. Seriously. Is no one else experiencing this? I'm not sure what patch it was but something porked by cockpit sounds in my merged install.
  20. Favorite Non War Aviation Film

Good question.... I always liked the original "Flight of the Phoenix". There are some Bond films with some great aviation related footage. The DC-3 bit in "Quantum of Solace" rocked!
  21. RoF needs to drop the DRM. I simply will not consider it until they do. And I don't play online so that is no selling point for me.
  22. CVN-65 Enterprise

I'll agree there is no sound to be found but I just dropped the CVN-65 folder into my SF2V GroundObject folder and it works like a champ. Looks good. Thanks!
  23. 4 core and OFF

What OS? I've had better luck running CFS3 under win7 than winxp from a multi-core performance perspective. I don't need to muck about with processor affinity with win7.
