It looks like a skin for Boris' F-8E Crusader from the TV Series of Area 88.
Debuted and bought the big one in the second episode.
Both Shin Kazama and himself were smart enough to fold the F-8's wings to get between the sections of the Fangs but caught a 23mm shell through the intake.
-
The new Hawkeye voices are kinda..... uninspiring, but will get used to them.
Maybe they should find the voice actor for the AWACS Checkmate from F-22 Lightning 3, he aways sounded interesting and professional and maybe some background noise might add to the immersion.

If they were the G's we may have had no choice but to bury them thanks to their previous role in SAC just like the B-52G getting dewinged.
What is it with swing wing planes getting chopped up or buried when they are retired instead of using them like the F-4 for target practice?
-
I certinly learnt my lesson about that when my PF got a handful of 30mm Aden Rounds from an Avon Sabre that I badly overshot.
-
No kidding, right?
"Ahkmed, fly your jet and bomb these targets."
"Kiss my ass sir, YOU fly this jet."
Reverse Delegation at it's finest
"BTW if your RWR is going off like a Christmas tree just ignore it and keep going, Seeya"
Judging by the condidtion of the MiGs and SOKOs in this video, Gaddafi won't need the sand.
Such a damn shame someone crushed a SF-260 with a tank though.
Now that night has fallen the rebels can rest assured that NATO fights 24hrs unlike the LAAF,
Enjoy the fireworks display outside the city Benghazi.
OT:Damn 3AM here gotta sleep....
-
How stupid do you have to be to fly a MiG-23 over Libya this weekend no matter whoes side you are on?
Too true.....
But if I was stuck in that city that is under siege by the Libyan Army I'd consider using that plane against the tanks to at least delay them entering the city.
But now that the NATO forces are seen to be playing hardball flying anything that doesn't have NATO or civie IFF signals is tantamount to suicide.
The best thing Gaddafi can do for his Air Force now is to bury it like the Iraqi Air Force did to theirs and save a few pilots lives.
-
Thanks Dave,
Although I think this topic is starting to reach it's expiry date since we're starting to talk about the ops in Libya proper instead of the MiG-23BN
19:41 Al Jazeera quotes sources saying French War planes have destroyed 4 tanks south west of Benghazi
latest update
They weren't kidding when they said French warplanes would be the first to start airstrikes against Pro-Gaddafi forces.
Once again I'm curious to what they are using (LGB's/AASM's?) since they seem to be overkill for just tanks and cluster munitions have been banned.
To answer the Question about AWAC support, we (RAF) have had up to 3 E3D Sentry's stationed in Cyprus with tanker support for a while now, scoping out movements in Lybia and aiding the evacuation/SF assests.
Not to mention the sneaky Nimrod R1 and possible Sentinel R1 support.
*facepalm*
Of Course, I should of remembered that from article talking to one of the C-130K pilots that was getting people out like you said.
-
I'm surprised APACHE missiles haven't started impacted the airfields confirmed to be in the hands of Qaddafi since this has now started for real.
If they starting to attack Libyan Army units outside of Benghazi that means that the Rafale's are armed for Multi-role work (AASM's?).
SA-6 and SA-8s hmm, they could be a problem if they keep them mobile and follow the Serbs example of ambush tactics (ALARM's should work well for those.)
-
Ignoring the posts above for the thread's sake.
Apart from the ZPU's/ZU's,SA-7/14's and SA-2/3's what else does the LAAF have that can shoot down aircraft.
From recollection the S-200 sites they had got nailed by Hornets in El Dorado Canyon.
An SA-3 would be only thing I can see shooting down that Flogger apart from the mobile/portable stuff they must have arrayed around there.
-
Looking at the photos it looks like a MiG-23BN (I wonder what model their second aircraft is) that got shot down. That nose profile is hard not to spot.
Other reports say they used the planes to attack a warship.
Well if you needed to take some T-72's out I guess that's better than nothing.
Video Report w/photos: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12794589
The rebels must be thankful they don't have to worry about the "Blinders"
-
The photo shows that the pilots ejected...
MiGs have reliable means of escape
That's true I hope his injuries aren't too serious that he can't get out of Dodge if things detriorate further.
-
They must be desperate if they think launching that bird will help the situation but thinking the Col. would leave his forces defenceless against air attack is a bit naive.
Now with the rebels launching planes it's gonna make it harder for NATO planes to engage BVR (the ROE they are probably under will make that impossible) with the possibilty of blue-on-blue.
The F-14A's TVS would be useful about now if the rebels have marked their planes.
-
I wonder what equipment they are using?
Mir-2000's or Rafales with A/R Support and the obvious AWACs backup?
-
I saw it on the news (Ch7) here around 6pm WST.
That pics is large enough to pick out the fact that there's no one left in it.
There's no doubt that a LAF Flogger but on which side?
If that's a Pro-Col. Plane why did an interceptor fly so low to get hit by AAA or MANPADs

R-77P & R-172 is almost ANTI-AWAKS.
Since in ~ 1985 we have heard for the first time about a stealth we have started to work over this problem: resonant scanning and air radar with wavelength 70cm (tested in ~90-95) some of possible decisions. However RCS pak-fa it is possible to reduce by COLD-PLASMA SHIELD which is successfully introduced in our new cruise missiles. {no for all plane but for some parts}.
One my familiar scientist has told: stealth is very simple, at the plane of thousand faces but only 50-100 of them form 99 % RCS, simply find and clean them.
True, but surely those missiles could be used against stand off mass jamming aircraft that could make life difficult for the S-300 operators trying to find F-22s & F-35s.
Would that plasma stealth be used where aerodynamics may compromise stealth or just where it's easier to install?

His full article on the T-50 is something I can't wait to read.
But his conclusion will most likely be the same many of his others which is that the RAAF is screwed because of the past two governments choices (ie. F-35A & F/A-18F).
However the Growler could change that until the R-77P and the R-172 start trickling down to South-East Asia
-
Thank you, do you know how these numbers were calculated. I mean its all guesses. Somehow it feels wrong that it would have the same as the side and rear aspect of a F-35. I mean it almost looks like the F-22, should it not have something similar to it.
I agree that it shold have something similar to the Raptor however cost and other structural issues as well as the fact it is going to be exported to other countries means that along the line the stealth was comprimised (Like how it doesn't have a radar blocker to the rear of the engine.)
Sorry I'll give you the link to his NOTAM
His sources are erring towards a pessimistic evaluation of the F-22 and F-35's RCS and radar capabilites.
-
I wonder how big of a RCS this jet will have.
Carlo Kopp from Ausairpower.net is guesstimating it to be 0.01 m2 all aspect (worse case, best for west scenario)
F-22A Front Aspect = 0.0001 m2, Side and Rear Aspect = 0.01 – 0.001 m2
F-35A Front Aspect = 0.001 m2, Side and Rear Aspect = 0.01 m2
These are for X-band radars (APG-81/most modern radars)
The more zeros the better
Sorry to keep editing

TVC and FCS may nullify that problem and the fact the tailplanes are all moving

The next Macross? Did you know as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of Macross, Studio Nue/Big West aired the 'Macross Frontier' series from April 2008 to September 2008 in Japan? The setting for the story is in 2059 AD, 50 years after the start of the original Macross story.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macross_Frontier
Prior to Macross Frontier was OVA series released in 2002 - 2004 'Macross Zero' which is the prequel for the Macross story set in 2008 AD.
There both good series but waiting ~5 years per production is a bit too long just to have 5-26 episodes honestly
Back On Topic:Good angle Shin things would be hard for the mercs at the start before their skills were acknoledged.
Maybe some French and British planes on both sides could make life interesting.

These is the kind of aircraft-related anime/manga/doujinshi we should see instead of pantless girls flying around. So true and waiting for the next Macross or similar anime simply does my head in.
It's a shame the A88 TV series only lasted 12 episodes and they didn't follow up on it.
Whatever you do, do NOT...

Apart from having Kawamori design the ASF-X and the VF-1J/S skinned Tomcats (JP Ver. Only) it was the music that saved it for me.
