Tiger Woods '08 demo on Xbox Live Marketplace
Revvin replied to Revvin's topic in Game Console Corner
I really liked the demo, a few nice new features that I would find handy like the putting preview but there are some really good games coming soon like Medal of Honour: Airborne and a choice between FIFA 08 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 so I might save my pennies unless I put in a few trade-ins. -
The single player may be a little linear but I'll wait and see, in the demo you could wander through the area picking off the objectives as you found them. Multiplay is the main reason I buy these and as far as tactical shooters go it just depends on who you play with. The game is just your playground so if you want to run around shooting at anything that moves then you can just as you can in say Rainbow Six or Armed Assault but you can make your playground more tactical if you play with like minded players.

The Porsche Carrera Cup mod for rFactor has been widely regarded as one of the best available for the sim. The GSMF team worked with real drivers and teams to get the handling as close to the real car as possible and matched it with very nice 3d models and textures. They have just released the 2007 version of their mod which includes the new 997 GT3 Cup car in liveries from 4 series which use this car including Germany, Australia, the Asia Cup and the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup. You can download this mod from rFactor Central here: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=PCC%202007

Has anyone tried the demo on the XBOX 360? I'm rather liking it, perhaps more than Call of Duty 3 which may well get traded in for the full version though CoD3 still has a strong following online. Graphically there is not much to choose between them IMO but I do like the control method of leaning in MoH:A it feels more fluid.

Microsoft is offering owners of this wheel a retrofit kit due to reports of some units overheating and releasing smoke when powered by the AC mains adaptor. The official announcement is as follows:

I think in your haste to post more vitriol at EA's expense you've not really read what I posted. I never set out to defend EA though I did compare one point in that 2K Sports also release on a yearly cycle, but that was it. To expand on that if you read some reviews of past titles you'll see there have been good and bad years for both EA and 2K Sports with both publishers getting flack for releasing little more than a roster update to the previous years title whilst they both have had positive reviews on the same series where improvements have been made where they have introduced an updated engine when they have got to a point where just a roster update is not enough. Being a Pro Evolution Soccer fan I did come close to buying FIFA last year because IMHO it was a big improvement over past titles in terms of gameplay, my son also thought it was a worthy challenger to Pro Evolution Soccer but in the end Pro Evo edged it slightly but I'll be trying the demo's again this year before making a purchase - partly to see if I need to make one at all if there is no significant update to either title. As for my comment on Sony, I was not "throw Sony on the fire based on their use of the F1 license and leave out EA" I had already mentioned my blame in helping EA squeeze every last drop out of the F1 license for buying those games each year so I was not leaving out EA at all and I mentioned Sony in relation to the point I was making about the licenses costing so much that even Sony decided not to renew their deal with Bernie Ecclestone. To have to explain that again clearly shows you're not interested in another opinion so I will respect that and make this my last post on the matter.

EA have got away with it for years, I'm partly guilty for helping them by buying their F1 games each year back a few years ago. Of course 2K sports are doing the same kind of thing now and you have to wonder if these publishers have to do something like this to be able to afford the extortionate fee's charged by the various sporting bodies like the Bernie Ecclestone, NASCAR, NFL, FIFA etc. I'm not trying to defend EA but they may not be entirely to blame for the greed shown by some of the sporting license owners. Even with all the money Sony have they have given up the license to produce official F1 games and the rumour is EA are in the hotseat to get the license back. On a side note, are these sigs really neccessay? they are puerile and I've had to switch off sigs in my user control panel which is a shame as I've sometimes followed sigs to sites linked in some users sigs and found them interesting.

Its been updated yet again to v1.52 though they say this is likely to be the last mod as they wanted to test things as a platform for their '07 season mod.
-
Its a great mod but frequent patches like this hurt its popularity online as you'll keep getting mismatches. Its almost a job in itself to keep up with some of these mods. This is one of the better F1 mods available but I still prefer the slower pace of the F3's and Formula BMW's.

If you visit the link above its now been updated to v1.51.

I wasn't a big fan of this mod when I tried the first version but I may have to download it again as it looks like its come a long way since the original release.

Probably would have been a good idea to include a link You can grab the update at rFactor Central here: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=FSONE%202006

I'm a bit late with this one but I'm playing catch-up with a few mods I have installed and this one had an update this week. iDT are well known for creating quality mods in a number of sims and this one is no exception. You can download it here at rFactor Central: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?I...0World%20Series

This is one of the really polished mods for rFactor IMHO that ranks alongside some of the really great mod's like the Euro F3's, CTDP's 2005 F1, Megane Trophy, iDT's Formula BMW etc. The update has hadthe following features/fixes added:

Its a good idea to keep a backup hamster for the wheel in case the first one gets tired glad to see you're back

I was browsing through the RSC forums at the weekend and saw this interesting add-on for the G25 which adds an LED rev display, gear display and a few extra buttons. Apparently the cost is being aimed at a mere 70 euro's fully assembled which is a bargain compared to the CXC Simulations offering which you can read about here which does not include any extra buttons but costs almost twice as much because they used carbon fibre. Anyway the thread at RSC is here and there is a video at YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJzIz9jk82E

I can't wait to see this film when its released here, I've loved the series so far.

I didn't think much of the Saitek pedals when I saw them at last years E3 they didn't look as strong as the CH pedals. In regards to the spacing of the pedals I don't have a problem with the CH Pro Pedals. I have my Fighterstick mounted on a speaker stand and the shaft stands against the edge of my chair and situating the Fighterstick between my legs and I have no problems with that setup. If you have the Fighterstick already you can easily add the CH Pro Pedals to any profile with the click of a button.

New RACE '07 website is now online
Revvin replied to Revvin's topic in Racing Simulations General Discussions
Apparently if you click here: http://www.vgp.se/instructions.do and scroll down to the red box labelled 'Ladda Ner' thre is a 5mb file which when loaded into Steam opens up to around 400mb and is a early playable demo shown to a Swedish groups of racers> I've not tried it as I don't want to spoil the game for me, early demos can be dissapointing and not very representative of the final game so I think I'll wait. -
New RACE '07 website is now online
Revvin replied to Revvin's topic in Racing Simulations General Discussions
Yeah the new cars will be nice, the Formula BMW mod for rFactor is my favourite open wheel mod so its going to be interesting to see Simbin's take on that vehicle. I also like Steam, even with a CD copy though no messing around with a CD and infact once I'd installed and registered RACE through Steam once the next time I installed it after an OS re-install Steam just let me download it so if you lose your CD all is not lost. I think some racers felt Steam had too much control over what you did with the game as everythign was encrypted but I like that fact that I had one sim I could load up and play online without worrying about mismatches. If I want to play mods I have rFactor and GTR2. From reading the RACE '07 website though they will allows players to use their own skins online in the next version so that may be acceptable to those who did'nt like Steam for that reason.
