  1. "total conversion" basically what we're doing, but more on a individual folder/file basis. The game, stock out-of-the-box so to speak, has relatively empty folder (most will only contain the main ini, which has basic property pointers for the engine to look at and 'pull' necessary operating bits from the various cat files). Don't worry about them. In fact, many of the GroundObjects can be left alone, as they have specific start dates, well after 1945. One of the main tricks, ESPECIALLY for aircraft, is leave one player usable (like a A-4 or F-4), and one non-flyable (aka "AI controlled"), like a MiG-21. A few years back we had some issues with the game engine automaticly repopulating ALL the aircraft back one these 2 weren't there. for some screwy reason. The real hard part is downloading and install the specific aircraft, vehicles, ships, guns, weapons, etc. For the most part, we have era-specific sets ready for this. Check the SF2 Objects downloads, particully for guns and weapons packs built with WW2 in mind. It IS a lot of work; no one here has assembled a 'ready to use' theatre or region specific package with all the required pieces. OTH, the DAT has several; a PTO, MTO and Eastern Front (Russia) . But, they do have restrictions on some things before getting heavily into the modding, I'd really recommend reading both the SF/Wo* Knowledge Base (what we call 1stGens), and the SF2 Knowledge Base. Plenty of good information that is applicable, and should give you a basic working knowledge of how things is done, and how the game (usually!) works. Also, explore the folder structures of the 'mods folder' -- it's in your C:\Users\*-your name here-*\Saved Games\ThirdWire folder. And just play the regular game for week or two, just to get familiar with how things are. It will help in the long run. and I'm off ... it's 2am and time for bed!
  2. welcome, brother!! We've been playing WW2, in 'stand alone' type installs since at least 2005. Yes, it VERY doable! (as can be seen by the number of WW2 downloads we have) directly above, in the stickied threads, you'll find the basic guide: http://combatace.com/topic/74835-creating-the-eratheatre-specific-ww2-install/ now, while not fully up-to-date (I must fix that!), the instructions are fairly easy to follow. The only thing I'd change is using the SF2NA exe to build your (theatre specific) WW2 mods folder from. Now, this is only if you're planning on adding those terrains that now support carrier operations. (Central Pacific types, for instance, and one of the MTO terrains, iirc). If not, then it's advisable to use SF2 or SF2E. V and I may still have some "unique" properties that make the not really suitable for WW2 modding. But, as you're Full-5 Merged, with Exp 1 & 2, this should not be an issue First off, you must choose WHERE in the World of WW2 you wish to fly. Mind you, some of the items are NOT available here are CA. Those, in particular, built by the Dev A-Team (aka, "DAT"). For those you have to sign up at their site, and follow their specific rules. ask specific questions, and we'll try and answer them!
  3. how come you're not using the right Mk.VIII for 79 Squadron??? ----- required screen shot:
  4. post images to the gallery, then use the 'link feature', (ie: copy/paste the images url into you post) no upload limit to the gallery
  5. generator buildings are classed as "POWER_PLANT" in the types ini, as is that giant sized one on the GCE map the other to use, for quays/docks/piers/cranes/etc is "NAVAL_BASE" (converslyl, barracks and such can be classed as "ARMY_BASE" I use WAREHOUSE for static (docked) ships. Except naval vessels in-port, they stay WARSHIP to REALLY vary the types to attack, (this trick goes way back to SF1, early 2000s) extract the SingleMission.ini, place in the /Flight folder, and edit as follows: now, you can take you multi-million dollar aircraft, with weapons costing 10s (or 100s) of thousand to dollars, and blow up the 500 dollar truck

Skins are in jpg format, as are the bump maps. Damage textures are in DDS. Everything is included, excepting the guns (you should have all these already). No bombs or rockets; these are Mk.1s, not equipped for them. All markings are decals, and decal randomization is set to TRUE. Other squadrons can easily be reproduced by creating new squadon code letters. As is my habit, sample bmps are left in the various Decals folders so you can match the font and size. For No 68 Squadron, those letters marked with a star (*) represent those aircraft whose serial numbers have been 100% matched to their plane-in-group letters. Those withOUT the star, while having served in 68, could not be positively IDed. All other serials, while correct for the variant depicted, should be considered 'generic' in nature, as they represent no specific aircraft with the units represented. When in-game, you'll see: Beaufighter Mk IF (Late) (CAF) Beaufighter NF Mk.I (Late) (CAF) for these aircraft. The "CAF" (for Cocas Aircraft Factory) will diferentiate these Beaus from any others you may or may not have. As always, fairly easy to follow, yet detailed install instructions are included. 16. sure, put some small ships in the canal, or tied up to the city's river banks in town (that's easy! I do it all the time!) width (or beam) of the ships would determine which ship model could be used. Would be dependent on which tiles are used for the canal. If city-river, you can still fit the stock 3W cargo ship (as there are "pull outs" all along the canal for shipping to pass in both directions). If city-2-sea type, still not a problem, as the distance across (say, using a SC50A or B) is apporx 3-400 meters ( as measured by stock 3w bridge sections, which by an odd happenstance, are 100m spans, with 50m end sections) or repaint one of Stephan1918's ships, as I've been doing, and just have it parked there.
  17. OUTSTANDING!!! Great work man!!
  18. LOL! I'd debated putting "some kind of bridge" over the Canal on my WW2 maps; but didn't want to have it bombed (as I'd never found any references to that ever happening!!) then, the problem is, would you have it raised or lowered??? !!!! pity we can't get shipping lanes to work properly down rivers/canals (yes, I've experimentated with it ... damn formations is what messes it up!) Don't want "the ships that sail over land and sea" (ala Elric)
  19. RAAF Beau's in action off Lae, PNG
  20. any plans for the Rendsburg High Bridge, over the canal?
  21. have fun!!! also, if you're replacing the stock hangars with those from Stary's hangar pack, they're reversed. Meaning, if you want it facing west (270), you have the set the heading to east (90). Just a little quirk they have!
