custom terrains
Wrench replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
you don't need the cat files in the /Terrains main folder. They stay down in the 'core files' section. the game will automatically find them. what other terrains do you have for ETO, and where are they're folders?? (odd to see Okinawa in an ETO centroc mods folder!!!) edit: i just noticed the 2nd Terrain folder ... it should be /Terrains - plural -

Fuel tank amount question..
Wrench posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
ok, somebody refersh me... is it Liters, Galoons, killograms or pounds of fuel in the tank?? what I've got is an aircraft with a total of 682 liters, internal tankage, and I keep getting bingo calls well below the range specified in the data ini. (which I've actually cut down a bit) NormalMissionRadius=750 MaxMissionRadius=850 the BSFC seem ok...for a Napier Sabre... here's the statements from the data ini: -

Wrench replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
cool! I"ll give that a try obviously, each tank gets half that (245.96) btw, Raven, in you abundence of spare time (!ha!), I wonder if you could whip out a 'special' 44 gallon RAF tank, one with a short plyon attached? I know it's not even close to historical..but the Tiffy hasn't got ANY pylons for bombs/rockets, and I really don't want to 'fake pilot' them like I did the FW-190s (although, it is an option; I just reduce the rockets to 6 instead of 8/and or mount a rocked on the plyon) screenie of aircraft in question (note the emptyness between the tank and wing) -

SF2 WW2 ETO Bristol Beaufort Mk.1 (DAT)
Wrench posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
File Name: SF2 WW2 ETO Bristol Beaufort Mk.1 (DAT) File Submitter: Wrench File Submitted: 15 May 2013 File Category: Other SF2 WW2 ETO Bristol Beaufort Mk.1 (DAT) = For SF2 (Full4/5 Merged RECCOMENDED!) **This mod -MAY- work in 1stGen game installs. But this has not/cannot be tested by me. ** This pak contains mods for the Dev A-Teams Bristol Beaufort Mk.1 as seen in Western Europe (ETO) from 1940 (ish) onwards. This is a semi-complete aircraft mod, and as per DAT directives, the aircraft lod is =NOT= included. So, those users that cannot access the DAT downloads, you're advised to skip this, as it's of no use to you. Everything else is included. Those users with access, will be transfering the lod from either a seperate DAT download of the Beaufort or from their WoA game install/mods folder. This mod has been built and tested with the BeaufortMk1_R3.LOD (dated 8/7/2005) from their WW2 Aircraft Downloads section. You =WILL= need that, to copy/paste into THIS aircraft's folder. It should be noted the Mk1_R3.lod is the same as that's available in their WoA mod. End Users that have the original aircraft, either from WoA or seperate downloads are advised =NOT= to install this package over an existing aircraft folder. See "To Install" for full explicit instructions. The skins included herein are for UK (ETO) based squadrons ONLY!! They are: No. 42 Squadron, Costal Command (code:AW) No. 217 Squadron, Costal Command (code: MW) Both in standard Temperate Day Scheme for the time period (dark earth/dark green). 42 Squadron carriers Sky unders, and 217's unders are Special Night. The skins have been partly repainted, and remain in their bmp format. New decals were created as needed for serials, plane-in-group letters and others. The serials are 'generic' in nature, as they represent no particular aircraft within the units depicted, but ARE for the model variant represented. Weapons (Torpedos) ARE included; the gun & RAF bombs you should have already. It should be noted there are 2 versions of the Mk.XII torp -- one standard, and one experimental SF2NA style "cruise missile". It set up for the standard version; the NA style is for other modders to experimentate with. Testing was done in my ETO mods folder built from the SF2NA exe, and I've noticed no real difference (other than the CM torp tends to miss and explode beyond the target) See the "Notes" section for operational instructions for (semi) proper torpedo attack profile. All fuselage markings are decals (wing roundels remain painted on); this will allow super easy creation of other squadrons by simply creating a new SCode or **(2letter) decal, and decal randomization is set to TRUE. All the 1stGen Hangar and Loading screens were either rebuilt to SF2-spec, or created new for this package. They are in jpg format, and fit SF2 styling. Damage textures are new, in DDS format. The FM, based off the Beaufort in the Wings Over Africa Total Conversion Mod, may need further small adjustments. But it flys fine for me! :) Remember, it's a BOMBER!!, not a fighter plane!! Fly accordingly!!! As always, fairly easy to follow, yet detailed install instructions are included. PLEASE read them!!! All the original DAT readmes are included, for historical and ownership/copyright purposes. Good Hunting! wrench kevin stein Click here to download this file- 1 reply

How do I get missile pylons on a plane's wings?
Wrench replied to Geary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
heheheheheee ... my Fresco AS was was the first thing that came to mind! The spacing, however, as the pylons are one lod, will be completely different on the Fagot. One can try, of course, but the wingspans are very different on the 15 vs the 17. as alternative is, again using the fake pilot method, adding each pylon seperatly, like I did on the "what if.." F-79 Manta and HP Perigrine Flying Wing fighters (yes, it's an Ho-229). They're off somewhere's in the What If downloads. Cocas built the pylons edit: and given the time frame, even in the what if world, a missle armed Fagot would prolly carry RS-2U Alkali-A (IR guided), but they're start year in 1960, near the end of the 15s service life. The RS-1U, even with it's 1956 start date is of no use, as it's a beam rider, and there's no radar nose lod (fake piloted) that fits either pasko's 15 or the 3W one. -

Drop Tanks
Wrench replied to usafphantom2's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
well, RAF50 Bomb is incorrect. it's just plane RAF50. I should know, iirc, I built it. also, Hurricane Mk.1's ain't got no hardpoints. those didn't start appearing until the IIb series, 'HurriBomber', and later marks. and...the mass of the 44 gal tank is 187 kg if you'd told us at the start, WHICH aircraft (and who built it), those of us that know this stuff backwards and forwards, inside and out could've save a LOT of time and effort!! I'm also gonna guess that's NOT Raven's Mk.1 -- as it's data ini is named completely differently (meshes too) -

Iran-Iraq Terrain - For SF2, Full-4 Merged (or any with access to the Desert cat) - (Although Perfered Usage is as a Complete Stand-Alone Iran/Iraq War Mod) This is a complete and total rebuild of the Iran/Iraq terrain from oh, so long ago. The entire map has been retiled, using Polak's Desert Storm set (also with some updates) with the addition of rivers, more farms, cities and an major expansion of the target areas. Simply put, those that have or seen the original probably won't recognize the place!! Although designed with the 1980-88 War in mind, it can (with EXTENSIVE reworking) be made over for use for any time period, up to and including the Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait/Desert Shield (more in the "Notes" below). While many of the neighboring countries DO have (minimal) targets added, they are set as NEUTRAL, and have 0 value targets, as they are beyond the scope of the main focus of the map -- the Iran/Iraq War. However, the major airports ARE there, also NEUTRAL. MANY new tiles have been added, updating of some originals (to make them fit and look better), and LOTS of custom TODs for buildings and trees and such. Including ALL new river AND road tiles for all 3 types of terrain (desert, farm, mountain), with all the transitions. While not perfect, given game/terrain engine limitations, these changes make the region look more like it should. Unfortunately, however, some rivers and other terrain features are NOT replicated due to the height field display of the terrain, making it virtually impossible to do so. This is especially true for regions in Iran that are heavily mountainous; or have some other "oddities" due to airfield flattening. Roads may also NOT follow their actual paths. Other changes are to Runway 2 and Runway 3, that have been retextured to fully paved (no more FOD from dirt!!) It is also reccomened you have the Pasko's Ground Objects, and Kesselbrut's Vehicles Pak, the GAZ trucks, etc; in short any and all add-on SAMs, AAA, vehicles, ships, and whatnot from any and all other terrain mods. HOWEVER -- make sure said add-on objects are CORRECT for the theatre and timeframe. (SA-2, SA-3 and SA-6 for the big Iraqi SAMs -btw, 2 & 6s are stock items) While NOT all are included, some are. Wherever possible, I've tried to stick with stock, historic items. Several new, "nation specific" items ARE included. Aircraft are NOT. As to be expected, there are some Easter Eggs. Most are scattered around the map; some are actual historic World Heritage sites. While this can be used in a SF2 series (any), it is reccomended that it be used in a Stand-Alone Mods Folder dedicated to the Iran/Iraq War only. As it uses desert tile/terrain naming conventions, it points to the Desert.cat. As all tiles and most terrain objects are either stock or included, it should work with any of the stock Cats, =EXCEPTING= SF2:I's IsrealME. Use of that cat is =NOT= reccomended. It is highly reccomended that you READ this entire document through before installing this mod. If you don't, you're SURE to run into problems. And then, well, you know the drill. You get clowned on. Hard. As usual, the expansive "Notes and Other BS" section for clarifications, elaborations, explainations and general ramblings. Happy Landings! Wrench Kevin Stein -

do you have the source file? do you have and can use 3DS Max?? cause that's the only way how to. has to be fixed in max. -
Is there any interest....
Wrench posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
in some of the mods I've been sitting on, many partly completed, for DAT Allied aircraft? In particular, for the ETO? I've been sitting on a buttload of stuff for a number of years since they went their own way; mostly for the Beaufighters (example screenie below), but for the Beaufort as well (although the torp is giving me some "issues" -both the standard type, and the NA-tweeked 'cruise missile torpedo') Many have partly completed skins, all need new decals, FM work and so forth. mind you, since not everyone can access their downloads to acquire the aircraft LODs, those that can't are left in the cold. But for those that can, whadda all think?? thanks! -
