  1. This is a cropped down image from a map by MKShepard; the original HFD covered pretty much the ENTIRE western Pacific basin, from the top of New Guinea to Kamchatka -the HFD weighs in at 840+ megs!!! I'm marked the 'region in question'. Now, I just need MK to create an HFD I can import (and tile using GermanyCE as that seems to be the closest 'fit', expecially with the snowy mountain, and the Forest and Fields mod) This'll also give all those nice JASDF aircraft we have somewhere's to play in. And perfect for a Harrier campaign (just like USNF) wrench kevin stein
  2. Looks right! Here's mine (standard summer version, I guess). I always have mine cat listings at the end, don't know why, just do! Safe to assume you're using ONLY SF??? Or have only the SF Desert terrain available?? (not that it should matter) And yes, that IS the correct Lat/Long wrench kevin stein
  3. I'm glad you enjoyed the answer!! Yes, and no. There's a lot a birds that need MUCH more help ... P-38s (all variants) come to mind immeadeatley. When my PTO install went belly up, I thought I'd give the 08 level a try ... spent 10 minutes fighting the L or H model stall/post stall ... on my back with minus (!!!) airspeed, doing a Cobra, full throttle and trying not to get shot full of holes by a ****load of Franks. Finally, gave up and spent a day and half rebuilding from a backup copy. A lot of DAT birds (Hurricanes and Spit come to mind right off) need some serious 08 tweeking. Hurris tend to go into unrecoverable inverted flat spins "for no apparent reason"; the AI just can't seem to handle it at all (as obviously, neither can I!!) So, in the unlikely event that 400 odd aircraft (including sub-varients) get their FMs rebuilt, I'm sticking to my 06 guns. Now, mind you, some work really well, as long as you don't push them too hard -- Monty's AD Skyraider and Wolf's Mustang (D model) are both pretty good, as is AD's Zekes. The Jugs DO need some work, as do the Corsairs and just loads of others. For me, the descision is "who do you want to fight: the Bad Guys or your airplane?" btw, SF2 "NextGens" are pretty much 08 level, in regards to FMs. Plus the Vista/Winge7 nativness etc, and added eye candy and stuff that mean absolutely nothing for the WW2 player (in MY opinon, only) wrench kevin stein
  4. Have you checked your Cat Pointer line?? wrench kevin stein
  5. Well, our handy-dandy, patent pending Knowledge Base would be the place to start. It can be a little daunting at first, getting famaliar with all the terms and structures, but in the long run MOST rewarding. There's also QUITE a bit of reading to do, but well worth the time -and not just for WW2-ish variants of the game, but for ALL the games. Lot's good info, more or less colated into some kind of sensible order (!!) On creating an 'era specific' install, read this little thread: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=19630 now, mind you, this might be jumping ahead a little for those as yet unfamaliar with the structures, but it outlines what needs doing. Follow those instrucions pretty much exactly; remember, don't patch your WW2 install past the 06 patch level, or much oddness will ensue  Getting the needed aircraft is another thing, as a good percentage of the WW2 birds were created by the Dev A-Team. To gain access to their aircraft, you'll need to register with them at Capun's site. http://cplengineeringllc_bb.cplengineering...d69516a4ece53ec Follow the instructions in the "Board & File Policies" forum on that front page. more aircraft are found here and more over at my site. Link is below in my signature and Welcome! wrench kevin stein
  6. Hmm....notable by it's absence is the CombatAce advertisement sign...I'd reccomend adding one (or a dozen!!) Those floods could make workable too, via ini edits like comprnt did for the 'lights in hangars' in his airfields mods wrench kevin stein
  7. Thanks guys! PB: some of the new tiles may or may not have the bmps in the terrain folder, but converting the tga to bmp for TE use is pretty easy. Now, creating NEW jungle TODS...well....I just couldn't figure it out! Fer Instance, the new jungle/river/grass tile needs a custom jungle tod EricJ: I actually have a superb idea for a modern map, but I can't get the damn DEMs to merge correctly (ie: stitch together the bmps) to create the region I want. hint: think USNF, and someplace sorta cold. Of course, for modern times, there's the unfinished Inda-Pakistan and Panama terrains. Someday..... wrench kevin stein
  8. Solomons Islands - version 3.0

    Version

    668 downloads

Solomon Islands Terrain -Version 3- For SF/WoV/WoE WW2 PTO mods, 06 Patch Level ONLY This is a COMPLETE and TOTAL rebuild of Edward's WW2 Solomon Islands map. It has been completely retiled (pretty much by hand!) to use the VietnamSEA tiles, and the Green Hell trees/jungle TODs; several of which are NEW, and only availalbe in this mod. This is a FULL terrain, with just about everything included for you to unzip and use, with minimal difficulty. It has been fully upgraded to make use of the 06 level terrain effects, so Vista users please take note. It is designed to TOTOLLY replace any and all eariler versions. This is a fairly 'target rich' environment -- the types and targets inis have pretty much been rebuilt from scratch, and the 'locations' in the Solomons_Nations.ini has been divided up into the various island named regions of this Theatre. There are also several completly NEW ground/terrain objects, creating via edits of pre-existing terrain objects. You MUST have ALL the Pacific Objects (ground units, ships, AAA, infantry, etc) already installed in you PTO version of the game; otherwise things may not be appearing. This is especially important for the ships -- the Liberty ship, and all warships, both Allied and Japanese. It's HIGHLY reccomended you have Gepard's "Midway" terrain installed, along with his IJN/USN naval units -- I've made use of them for both Fleets. Don't forget to check Geo's page for more WW2 goodies ... there's a lot of stuff that's usable (and used!) here as well. Some items are included (see below in the 'To Install' for details) There ARE some historical flaws, which as most of you know cheeses me off to now end; they are somewhat detailed in the "Notes & Explinations" section below. The data ini has been upgraded to the semi-latest standards (ie: 2006 patch level). Water effects are active, so Vista users beware...more information for you is below in the Install Instructions. See "Notes for Vista Users". While not designed for use in 08 or SF2 level games, it is quite easily adaptable with minor additions/changes to the data ini. Consult the CombatAce Knowledge Base or the several hundred threads on the matter. = MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST, WW2 NATIONS INI IN YOUR FLIGHT FOLDER = = MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST WW2 FORMATIONS INI IN YOUR FLIGHT FOLDER = == MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST WEAPONS PAK FOR THE WW2 WEAPONS!! == It has been tested in SF, WoV and WoE, using their cats pointed to in the main ini. As most of the new objects will be residing directly in the terrain folder, you should have no problems. (see the CombatAce Knowledge Base for the tutorial on using the cat pointer line). Follow these instructions herein =EXACTLY= and you should have no problems. It's HIGHLY reccomended you read this document completly through before installing this mod. Note: There are several new terrain objects still in the works (some parked? docked? moored? seaplanes); they just aren't ready yet. So, rather than wait until they're done, I've chosen to release this "as-is". Expect an update with these 3 objects are finalized (those are actually the only thngs missing -- everything else is done!). This will, at least, give the Campaign Builders something to work with. As always, it's reccomended you unzip this to a temp folder or your desktop to gain acess to the rest of the readme. Good Hunting! Wrench Kevin Stein
  9. I'll delete those for you James. Then, you can just make a new upload wrench kevin stein
  10. Yeah, that's what I meant (and didn't write) A Merc "nationalized" CV. wrench kevin stein
  11. Also, remember that it ONLY works in 08 patch levels and above (ie: SF2 and WoI) Doing this on 06 levels will majorly screw things up To answer the question "What is OpenCockpit=TRUE", is code imported from First Eagles for (obviously for the open cockpit biplanes of the era) It allow you to 'see' the inside of the aircraft mesh (which is hopefully mapped and skinned to something), expecially good for aircraft with a 'buried' cockpit (ala XF-103) where there is no windscreen. Or for bombers where you want the external models canopy framing to replace that of a cockpit model's. wrench kevin stein
  12. Hey, no biggie! We all make mistakes (just ask my wife!!! ) You should be able to edit the file; on the d/l page. However, that feature may have been removed due to some 'issues' we've had. You should be able to reupload the updated file over the existing one. There should be a button for 'Update' down on the lower right section, below the announcement If not, let me know, and I'll delete the originals and you and just re-up new packages. wrench kevin stein
  13. iirc, Pakso built the semi-conformal tank into the aircraft's lod, so there's no physical model (just like the F-82's radar pod -- it's part of the model) wrench kevin stein
  14. The lod is in one of the objects.cat. Don't worry about it, the Game Engine ™ will find it wrench kevin stein
  15. Yeah, each not allowed weapon has to be named. Name, obviously, must match the name as used in the loadout ini. and don't forget the adjust the max load weight to just over the one you want; this too helps in preventing the unwanted ones to load wrench kevin stein
  16. NICE!!! I'd drop Hinch a PM, as he's our resident ship-guru. I actually FOUND an LCM already in-game, the Brit units from the Falklands mod. I'm making the modder and modertor judgement call and will most likely include them (along with 2 other ships from there that fit my needs nicely!). Full credit to Kesselbrut will be in the readme But if you want to go ahead with, HELL YESS!!! I'll just remove the other (and save the time reskinning it too!) wrench kevin stein
  17. Mabye they need a 'merc' carrier??? (got the idea from Diabalico's book 'Mercenary of the Seas') wrench kevin stein
  18. I used it EXTENSIVELY on the Yak-25 Flashlight -- to keep anything but Alakalis from loading. The only major drawback, is you MUST list every possible weapons combination (missiles, most likely) of what's not allowed ie: Havn't tested this in SF2 NextGens yet, but it should work the same wrench kevin stein
  19. And not to forget this line, added to any specific station in the aircraft's data ini, to prevent loading: NotAllowedWeapon= and just fill in the blank. works a charm, without some of the oddness the StationSpecific code yeilds. wrench kevin stein
  20. First off, my apologies for my comments. I wasn't aware of the issues. No extraction is necessay; if James' main ini is pointing to those lods, the game engine will automatically find them. Just like in the Classic Series, all the stock birds don't have lods in their main folder, either. So, once SF2V is installed, you should look in the (well, for me in XP), MyDocument/*yourusername*/ThirdWire/StrikeFighters2 (don't worry if it says SF2 -- all the goodies are elsewhere, in the /ProgramFiles -- we don't have to touch those main or core files again) The pathway is similar for Vista -- most definately check the SF2 Knowledge Base up above in the Main Knowledge Base Forum. Just about all the "stuff" is covered. You open that folder (SF2) and you'll see it's pretty much the same as the Classic or TOS folder set up. You drop the new aircraft folder in the /Aircraft main folder and off you go. Well, pretty much. If there's any custom decals, they'll need to be moved (see the SF2 KB for details) here's the links to the main SF2 KB -- I disremember exactly WHICH post has all the instructions, but it's there somewheres! I swear it is!!! http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showforum=246 wrench kevin stein ps: I don't think I got the pm, btw
  21. As stated elsewhere, the LOD files are ONLY avaiable with SF2:V. You now have several choices: 1) save up and get SF2:V or 2) delete these new ones or 3) store these files somewhere's until you've got SF2:V Now, secondly, what you're asking is considerd piracy -- sharing core game files. That is MAJORLY frowned upon -especially here at CA. A VERY BAD THING. Something that is not even discussed. People have had very bad things happen to them -suspensions, and even banning. So, consider this a warning about file sharing. Don't do it, and don't ask for it, mmmkay? And the gods sake, can you PLEASE learn to type? Add some punctuation and paragraphs??? If we can't make out what being asked, we can't help!!! Thank you!! wrench kevin stein
  22. Also, might have wanted to INCLUDE the readme INSIDE the zip ... helps when folks get the item down to their comp, they can have the written instrucitons right in front of them To answer the original question: the LODs in question are ONLY available with a 3-game merged or SF2V install. They are not in SF2 or SF2:E wrench kevin stein
  23. That's pretty much how mine are set up; PTO should be broken into Central/Southern PTO (Solomons, Phillipines, Central Pacific, Okinawa) and CBI (using the China and Burma maps). my 'basic' ETO install is "SWOTL", as it's got everything from 39 onwards to the (conjectural) 46/47 era. A seperate BoB would be a good idea, to limit the plane sets. Same for CBI - certain types of aircraft would NOT be showing up (although that can be handled via data ini edits. In particular, for the A6M2 -- they wouldn't be around CBI after Jan, 42) MTO has the Tunisia and North Africa maps (and that hack job WW2 Libya of mine), plus 2 that are waaaaaay on the back burner for "What If..." oddball scenarios (no, no details will be forthcoming) Yes, 06 levels, which screws up the water effects for Vista users, but it's a 2 second ini tweek to turn them off. wrench kevin stein
  24. Geo was working on the J7W and Tojo too, IIRC, about 3-4 years ago. Unfortunately, they never materalized. Just like Pasko's Black Widow -- he'd started that loooooooooooooooooooooong ago. Again, never showed up. Like his Spit Mk.9 wrench kevin stein
