  1. Yes, I KNOW it's really a Mk.5, but it's the only one we got. No need to iterate the MAJOR differences between the F Mk.1, FR.1, etc. I already know them. (lack of chin or 'beard' radiator, wingtip extensions -the Mk5 has this clipped wing-existence of wingroot radiators, has wrong 2200 horse Griffon; s/b 1600 hp version, 3 bladed prop and not 4, and LOTS of stuff never finished -like the Youngmann flaps that work, don't forget when Simon released this 4 or 5 year ago, it was a VERY beta model. And still is) new skin, from new home-made templates; need to make Modex & serial number decals, and the little map that goes on the front fues by the cockpit. But if you don't look too closly -ie, squint at it in very bad light, it'll make a passable stand-in F Mk.1 1771 Squadron, FAA, HMS Implacable, BPF. (note to self: locate and place TF 57 on map) wrench kevin stein
  2. WOW! the lists of aircraft walkaround is MOST IMPRESSIVE!!! Think I'll spend some time looking at the ships, too great find, D!!! wrench kevin stein
  3. Of the American pre-war carriers, only SARATOGA and ENTERPISE were left. RANGER spent her entire carreer in the Atlantic, being deemed too small and too slow for Pacific operations. Hornet: sunk, battle of the eastern solomons wasp: sunk, battle of santa cruz yortown: sunk at midway lexington: sunk at coral sea All the over carriers would be Essex/Ticonderoga classs CV-9, Gambier Bay/ Casablanca class CVE, Princiton class CVLs You're also forgetting Hinch's US battleships for the Oklahoma*, Tennesse Classes (available in my Hawaii map), IJN Fuso and Ise, Nagato (also there) -- albeit, most of these Jap BBs are somewhere's on the bottom, but they exist. Don't forget HMS Belfast, Repulse class BB, DATs 'C' Class DD (Cavailer), Formidible class CVs for the BPF (oh, and my "stand-in" Tribal class, modded from the Darings, available in the new NorthAfrica upgrade here at CA) Pity Grinch never finished his OMAHA class CLs, those'd be a nice addition to any WW2 install. Hinch's Iron Duke is only good for one thing, USS Texas, and even there it ain't perfect, as Texas hasn't got any mid-ship main batteries, and the casemate 5 inchers are missing. But, it's the only WWI style dreadnaught we have, and it's close enough. It's even flying the State of Texas Flag! DAT stuff would also include the CV-5, CV-9 (ww2), Liberty, Jaccard class DE, Benham DDs Brooklyn CL -- all will be needed, although I have a replacement for the CV-5 class (seeing as there's only ONE left... a revamped Enterprise6 from 2005, updated with more weapons and such) Also their 2 jap tanks. These, of course, would have to be obtained by the End Users ™ on their own, as nothing of theirs may be included. Trust me, I've done all my homework, and have my finger deep on the pluse of what we have, what's needed, and where to get it. Fact checking it my thannaagg doncha know. *although still showing the cage masts, as opposed to the post-Pearl overhauls to tripod* wrench kevin stein
  4. Yah, verily, as we've done for the last 5 years... We cover the worlds, all times, all places. wrench kevin stein
  5. the more I work on this PTO Twin Mustang , the more I like it..... I think I'll just have to release it.... --- Okinawa seems nearly done, only lacking GA routes on Kyushu (and those I"ll leave to the Campaign Builder). All 16 Navy Radar picket stations are in 95% of their historical locations. Some retiling and general cleanup, etc, etc, etc. other screenies: Sasebo Naval Base and the as yet unreleased Hawker Sea Fury F10, in standard FAA 1947 (real life ™ post-war) colors. A simple redecaling can add the BPF roundel-and-bar, if there's any intrest. I really do need to get back to finishing the Solomons and, working on Tunisia.... wrench kevin stein
  6. Hmmm...I like it! You could be on to something!!! ---------------- Most, if not all those jets are probably just outside the 'year range' for PTO:46. We lack the F6U and FJ-1 (both of which were pretty much junk birds) But there is this....98.6% ™ Historically Accurate reskin/decaling of DAT's Phantom I ... I don't remember if I ever sent this over to Capun or not!! All the lights dialed in, adjusted weapons, 100% accurate BuNums (meaning, they're FH-1s, some actually ARE for VF-17A) Operational start year is STILL 1947, although if we get a Midway CVB, they MIGHT have flown some operational sorties against the Home Islands. Their perfomance, as expected for these early jets, isn't much better than a Bearcat or Mustang .. Simple change of decals, and VIOLA! you've got pre-redbar (post-1947) version. (and before anyone asks, yes, it's one of the several dozen projects I'm sitting on) Also, don't forget my "What If..." 504 Squadron PTO Metor F.3, BPF 887 Squadron Seafire 46, and CBI Spitfire 22 (all either here or my site). Screenies posted on request. wrench kevin stein
  7. opps...I forgot to post these too.. new, non-historical kadena (notice how it just barley fits the 4 G-AB1 tiles...even twisted to 60 degees) close up of the flight line. Those with reallly sharp eyes will note the actual positions correspond to 08 level parking slots wrench kevin stein
  8. Holy s**t!!! Can you imagine the file size for d/l?? after adding all the tiles, various and sundry terrrain object buildings....it'd be be largest terrain download EVER for this series!! the current re-tuning of the Okinawa map is about 90% done, just need to add a few bits and bobs of eye candy to some of the port tiles (docked ships ... I REALLLY want to add a docked BB, even though none were left at the time... ======= Quicke resking for the TwinMust; needs some fine tuning of the tail marking (blue), and new decals. Day fighter, 42nd FS. It's sssooooo nice having templates.... the 'buzzz numbers' (or modex if it was Navy) will run from 300-349, as is historical for their D & H models, with attendant serial numbers (real ones, from the cancelled B order) wrench kevin stein
  9. That would be a SUPERB map for this very scenairo!! But I don't think those regions are on the same DEM, and my lack of (ability and) understanding on HOW to stitch 2 together, limits my creativity. Of course, if someone manages to do it, and create the HFD and TFD files, targetization is just a matter of research and time. --- Rethinking the P-82 (and looking at my SWOTL version); methinks a few ini edits will recreate the standard 2-seat Long Range Day fighter. Said edits to the loadout and avionics inis will remove the radar pod, and the search/track radars, while leaving the audio RWR intact. (of course, this would mean I'd also have to get off my ass and finally finish the 422nd NFS skin, and create the B model with the SCR270 AI radar.....nice all black skin, too!) A few quick swipes in the template, and some new decals, and I could recreate another Natural Metal version. Just have to pick a squadron, find the markings....etc. My T-Jet for SWOTL already has 56th FG markings; the question is, would the 8th AF, operating from Okinawa, still keep the Euro-style squadon codes and such?? wrench kevin stein
  10. Agreed on the Twin Must. It's a small matter to just reuse my SWOTL P-82 skins (after all, wouldn't some of these squadrons be transfered over???) Saves time & decal creation, too Yes, I AM that lazy!!! Early production Thunderjets also already exist, with the un-framed canopy. Somewhere's here at CA ... Now, a Super Corsair .... hmmmm ..... that'd be REAL nice, harkening back to AOTP:46. Unfortunately, we'd need a new 3d model, with the bubble canopy and such. Already have the Tigercat and Bearcat. jomni: WoE, 06 patch level ONLY!!!! (my install of choice) Although, since I tend to include all items necesscary for the terrain, it'll work just fine in SF/SFG or WoV (in fact, it uses WoV tiles, thanks to Edward, hence the relative ease with which I can add the trees) Wrench kevin stein
  11. Edited comments by me.... Some fact checking might be in order ... I'd like to see definitave links saying yea or nay on some of these, especially the Airacobra and Warhawk, which were VERY outmoded in 1942, let alone 1945. Were they still in use? Sure, but not it Primary Offensive theatres (not counting P-39s in Russia -that's another can of worms). The DEFINATELY didn't have the legs to stretch from Okinawa to the Home Islands. Ground support roles had already been taken over by Jugs and Lightnings and Mustangs, to say nothing of the USN aircraft The BPF forces contained Seafires, Corsairs, Tarpon/Avengers, possibly some Fireflys. Don't forget, too, the imposed limitations for DAT aircraft; and those that COULD be used in this theatre, would need reskinning. And I have NO plans for doing that. --- back to the airfield issue... well, the ActiveYear/InactiveYear DON't work either...... so it looks like you all will be stuck with a non-historic Runway4 for Kadena. That is, after I get finished hexediting the lods and bmps and tga to match a new naming convention (due to the fact I want it CONCRETE, and not dirt) wrench kevin stein
  12. well, didn't take long to figure out the answer to my question is NO. However, the start DATE works, just not the InactiveDate= as shown in the 1st screenie....both runway sets (1 & 4) exist on Sept 1st, 1945, while ONLY the runway 1 (no screenie) shows on Aug 31st. One of the advantages of the "Targets Placement.msn" I wrote about in the KB. Easy to change dates you fly on! So, the question of when has been answered ... 1946. It looks like full years only, with no month/day. DAMN!!! the other screenies are: looking at Naha BB gunfire support group (Texas is at the center, ok, Iron Duke ) you'll note the 'forests' dotting the region (same as Japan). I'll get some pics of Japan up later, as I've changed a LOT of the city building to something a bit more Asian looking (read: vCity*) wrench kevin stein
  13. you mean in square km covered? or the generic x by y deminisons? From what I've seen, looking at Lexx's 6million meter map, there dosen't seem to be an upper limit. My Central Pacific, irrc, was 1000x1000 km, the Hawaii was 500x500. What distance the Ok map has, I'm not sure - meaning I've never given it any thought! One could create a simple single mission with 2 waypoints, starting at an edge (excluding the 80km Wall Zone), and measuring the distance to the other side. Since they're square, it could be figured out from there. ==== For WW2:46, we'd be missing the early model Midway class (CVBs) as I don't think we have that kind, only the angled deck version. I can look around and double check. There's a 'passable' CVE and CVL in my Central Pacific terrain - both mods of Hinch's ships, via Kukulino's mods of said (MAC and Zuhio). As it stands now, the carrier stations are all around Okinaway, but they are very easily moved to new locations. Also, we can include Gepards Patent Pending Invisible Airfield ™ for use in single missions, like he did for Midway and I for CenPac. It's up to you all what you want -- the drawback of using those is game-generated singles will place 'inappropriate' (read: AAF) aircraft there as a base. (btw: it's used at Lake Biwa) So, I guess I need some feedback/suggestions from our Campaign Guru, Baltika. === Subnote: does anyone know if the ActiveYear= in the 06 levels will accept the ActiveDate= line??? If so, the I can leave the airfields as they are, and "add" the extra ones as they can be 'constructed' and have a specific start date. Meaning: Kadena (as runway1 version) ActiveDate= 01/01/1939 InactiveDate=08/31/1945 Kadena New (as Runway4 version) ActiveDate=09/01/1945 InactiveDate=12/31/2050 (damn, but them CBs work fast!! ) and.... Ie Shima West (as is now, runway3) ActiveDate=01/01/1939 Ie Shima East (new, additional runway-whatever-) ActiveDate=09/01/1945 so, until the island is 'secured', there's only the preexisting airfields. If the active date DOSEN'T work, then they can simply be changed to ActiveYear=1946, which means putting off the Invasion until 1946 (wasn't that the plan anyway???) more experimentation will be required on my part.... Thoughts??? wrench kevin stein ps: I'll try to have some screenies today, as I seem to have fixed my issue, by doing a full system restore. I feel much better now, reallly I do!!!
  14. I spy some new terrain objects.... I REALLY like those bridges!!! the only oddity I see is at the end of the inlet; hard break line from the SC50/C tiles. Maybe 2 SC75s to close it off like a little bay? If they'll fit that is! Looking terrific! Looks like I can retire soon... NOT!!! wrench kevin stein
  15. I got the template from here, IIRC....if you can't find it here, I'll upload my copy -------- Great maps! Unfortunately, Iwo ain't on this one .... Also, in regards to Okinawa, there is no possible way (well, actually, there IS, but...) to add all those airfields. Don't forget the screwed-up scaling issues with ALL 3W terrains, even those at 100% scale (and I'm pretty sure Ok is 63%) However, having said that..... there IS enough room at Ie Shima for 2 runway3s or a runway3 and runway2...they should juuuuuussst fit in the 4 tile G-AB1s. Yongtan 'zone' also can fit 2 runway3s; I just hate combining 2 target areas that close together ... it only create problems when trying to add new terrain objects, but otherwise only looks 'off'. Kadena is right now set as a Runway1, medium airfield. I can swap it for a Runway4 (the large 2-crossing runway airfield) by twisting it around a bit facing-wise to force it to fit. This would be benifical to SuperFort operations, as well as B-35 and B-36s (in a 'What If...' scenario) Other than looking a bit strange, it all doable ... and will probably get done that way. Then there's the carrier stations ... not to forget TF 57 (??), the BPF forces. TF54, the gunfire support group has been added, courtesy of Hinch and his battlewagons he made for my Pearl Harbor map (yes, IronDuke has been modded into USS TEXAS) I even have a complete map of the radar picket DD locations surrounding Okinawa, and still have to plot them on the map and put Grinch's FLETCHER's there. of course, the movements.ini goes to hell, as there's still 'active' IJA forces on the northern half of the island, with several GroundAttack routes to Kadena, Yongta and Naha. Then again, NEW GA routes would need to be built for the 3 landing beaches on Kyushu. (I have a map around here somewhere's of the proposed assault sites -- in fact, it's on my 'generic' WW2 loading screen!) It should also be noted, that Operation Coronet not be possible, as this map don't go far enough 'up' Honshu to the Kanto Plain and Yokahama/Tokyo districts. As it stands right now, the ENTIRE terrain will probably be uploaded, as I've made too many changes and added too many things that dummy me forgot to keep track of, but I can easily replace the terrain mod I did before with THIS one. That just means that everyone will have to d/l all 60-odd megs again. but, progress in being made wrench kevin stein
  16. No one's every reported them on ASW or DBS, so I'd recheck your installs. Making sure you have the 'latest' version of the terrain. BTW, these were made BEFORE SF2 series, and have NOT been tested there by me. Also, do you have the 'hotfix' for SoCal? It dosen't fix ALL the tiling issues near Vandenberg, but reduces them. It's caused by an HFD issue that can't be resolved. A little research goes a long way....there was mention of the SoCal issue in a thread by Spectre, the hotfix issued, and etc. Also, you DO need to say which versions of the terrains -- most have several (due to me fixing things long after the fact...), and what game they're being used in -as that MAY be a factor wrench kevin stein
  17. Terrains made for 08 level TOS games are just a simple "plug and play" for NextGen sims. Just double check the cat pointers in the main ini. It's too bad we don't have 'studio' buildings ... you could add the Weta Complex as a target (take that Peter Jackson! -- j/k!!!) wrench kevin stein
  18. Thank MK! Since Russo provided us with a FANTASTIC template, makes skinning a breeze. Also, if you look at my "What If..." Korean N, all the decal positions are already plotted out Would there be any interest in the Lake Biwa seaplane base??? Since we have Pakso's Rex (and the skin for the squadron there), the Rufe and my FakeJake....and of course Gepard's Invisible Airfield ™ Only ask as I added the lake last night to the map. wrench kevin stein
  19. It's a known issue. Ignore it. wrench kevin stein
  20. 416th FS P-80: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=3223 one day I'll get around to updating the buzz and serial numbers; they're too dark and may be the wrong font. But the nose arts are nice! I'd started a Mexican P-47 (and a Brazillian one for the ETO) some time back, but never finished it. The Aztec Eagles (historically) flew in the Phillipines, too. There was a write up on them on Aviatin History magazine a year or so back. Speaking of Jugs, we REALLY could use some more (and squadron level) skins for Russo's N. hint hint unfortunately, Formosa's waaayyy off the edge of map, and not represented, so no KMT or Allied aircraft can be based there. Also, historically, wasn't Formosa bypassed in favor of the Central Pacific/Ryuku drive? As McArthur "wanted" to return to the PI. I know that fighting was still going on there until VJ-Day, as my father was there! Kamaikazis, in particular the Okha, have been discussed before...the only 'workable' solution is an EOGR weapon. Unlike the LucasArts X-Wing series, there's no mission order for aircraft "suicide attack". wrench kevin stein
  21. I just use the positions from the original F-4G WW -- they eject out the back of the inner pylons. from the old one over at C5's place (pre-TMF version) wrench kevin stein
  22. why keep posting the same question here and at 3rd wire?? ... the same people will be the ones answering at either site, so the answers will be the same. btw, I answered it AT 3W wrench kevin stein
  23. Been discussed before. Basically, the answer is no. When they hit the water, they just sink. wrench kevin stein
  24. Just updated the video card drivers to the latest (Nvida 190.38) today thinking this would fix the issue, as I'd updated them yesturday to the 10/08 drives - which have the same issue. Now, the first 2 screenies were taken in my PTO 06 level install within the last hour; this is what I was seeing yesturday ONLY on screenshots -- the game plays and looks fine! It's doing this (mind you, screenshots ONLY! - game look good - on my other 06 level installs) #1 is a hellcat at kadena #2 is a wildcat at henderson #3 is a Thud over SoCal (08 level) the 3rd is from my generic 08 level WoE what in hell could be causing this??? Something in 06 level dlls???? I REALLY don't want to upgrade to 08 due to the screwed up FMs in 98.6% ™ of the aircraft, to say nothing of terrain upgrades.... I am at a TOTALy loss as to what to do... wrench kevin stein
  25. Well, I don't think it's the drivers (or, in other words -- I don't have any idea of any kind....) Ran CCCleaner, scanned and defragged, done everything I can thing of, other than a system restore to last week -- which would loose everything I've been doing since then (as M$ lies that sysrestore dosen't change files -- total BS!) So, I bit the weenie, and updated the PTO install to 08 levels. Which means I've spent the last several hours going over every stinking airplane's data ini -- and there's over 150 aircraft in JUST that WW2 install alone.....to adjust the tailwheel steering and the StallMoment= line (and some planes don't even have it!!!). Don't even want to think about MTO or ETO/SWOTL installs ... sheesh.... Real fun watching the hurricane's we were to intercept falling into unrecoverable spins...well, at least 3 of them did... plus the Tony I was flying swapping ends on itself when low on airspeed .... f***ing hate this s**t!!! But...at least the screenshot are working again. And the terrains look good; for some reason, none of the sparkly water. Screenie below is off the new Solomons V3, over New Britian, approaching Ubili aerodrome. I need a new hobby...this is getting to be too much like (how I remember) work. wrench kevin stein
