F4U-1 "Corsair" Birdcage mod for SF/WoV/WoE WW2 PTO installs This package is a simple mod to the existing F4U-1 created by Wolf257. It will create a NEW aircraft, a 'stand in' F4U-1 'Birdcage' Corsair. You will also be making changes to your EXISTING F4U-1, with some simple file renaming to create the F4U-1A, which the aircraft really is. This will differentiate them from each other. The package contains ONLY the necessary files to create the aircraft; various inis, etc, and a NEW skin from my enhanced template, representing VMF-124, the first American unit to take the Corsair into action in Feburary, 1943. You MUST have Wolf's original F4U-1 to create the full aircraft from. The aircraft LOD (physical model) is NOT included!!! The cockpit folder IS included, as I made some changes in the 'viewed' wing, so rather than have the end users make a mistake with the 'wing.bmp', I choose to include the full folder. A "slightly" enhanced dash bmp is included, just for fun. The damage tga and a NEW -only available in this mod- Birdcage Corsair Hangar screen are also included! Full, detailed instructions are below in the "To Installate" section. --YOU MUST HAVE THE BUNYAP WEAPONS PACK TO GET THE WW2 WEAPONS!! -- --- YOU MUST HAVE WOLF'S ORIGINAL F4U-1 INSTALLED FOR THE AIRCRAFT LOD!!! --- This aircraft has been tested in SF/WoV/WoE and post-patch WoI (8/29/08). There still are some 'issues' with prop-plane flight models, but there has been a MARKED improvement!! You use it in WoI at YOUR own risk. As mentioned above, there's (yet another!) detailed readme enclosed -- so I require you to read the thing!! Notes, explinations, blah, blah, etc, and so forth. Good Luck, Good Hunting! and Happy Landings and all that sort of stuff.. Wrench Kevin Stein
  2. Just so's everyone know, as Ghost has already asked me, Gepard's Indo-Pak map IS on my list to 'targetize'. I just don't know when I'll get to it... We've got damn near everything we need, planes, vehicles, ships, AD units, expecting a target rich environment. Wrench kevin stein
  3. I uploaded the Rex last week (?) sometime. The Komet should be here, IIRC. What he did on the Rex was have the beaching gear wheels retract into the float. On the Komet, the wheeled trolley drops off when retracting the gear -- and then MAGICALLY comes up from the ground!!! when the gear is extended. He also actually did add the center skid, for those brave enough to attempt the 'Real Life ™' style of landing. If you can't find the Komet, let me know, and I'll upload the pack Capun did something similiar to the Rufe (that I need to finish the readmes for)...but I think the float (actually a non jettisonalbe drop tank) is NOT set as landing gear. Somehow got the thing to sit higher, without gear. I actually haven't really looked at the data ini gear section too closely. Wrench kevin stein
  4. Ghost, those off my new 1024 templates?? They sure do look good!!! Wrench kevin stein
  5. The Vampire and Mustang shadow issue was covered in another thread by me. Simple fix: go into the main ini (ie: P-51D-30.ini), and change the cast shadow line from True to FALSE. That'll take care of that Wrench kevin stein
  6. Until the Sufas arrived, I don't think any of their early model Vipers were wired for SAHM or AHMs. After all, they were A, B and early C & Ds. Corrections requested from the more knowledgable ™ Wrench kevin stein
  7. That's not snow....it's fallout Wrench kevin stein
  8. You mean something like Pasko's Rex and 163 Komet?? Wrench kevin stein

Grumman TBF-1 Avenger -- A Mod of the Dev A-Team's TBF-1C This is a mod of the DAT's TBM-1C Avenger of WW2 fame, into an early war version, circa 1942 This is to be considered as an "incomplete" aircraft mod, due to the non-inclusion of certain files. I've NOT included the aircraft LOD file nor the cockpit folder. See below "To Install" for a complete list of the necessary parts. You -MUST- have the DAT's TBF-1C to make use of this aircraft, as you'll be coping files over from it. The new skin, from a completly redrawn template based on Gramps' original skins, represents VT-3 based aboard USS Saratoga (CV-3) circa August/September 1942, approximately the time of the Battle of Santa Cruz and the fight for Guadalcanal. All the panel and rivet lines have been redone, new decals created for 'plane in group numbers', aircraft designation, and BuNums for 24 aircraft. It can also be considered a rather 'generic' USN/USMC version, as most units carried no markings. Some USMC VMSB units DID use a 3-digit ID number, based upon the aircrafted BuNum, but that's a story for another day... I've included all the inis I've modified, so you'll be copying the minimum number of bits. The data ini includes mods that remove the wing guns, and adds the single 30 caliber MG on the nose. Unfortunatley, the LOD still contains the postions of the 2 wing mounted 50 cals, so you'll have to suspend disbelief (or pretend they're broom handles stuck there to fool enemy fighters that they're real guns) Surface search radar has also been activated. NEW damage tgs's have also been created (they can be used on any of the TBF/TBMs). = IMPORTANT: This aircraft is designed for use in SF/WoV/WoE -ONLY-, I have NOT tested it in post -8/28/08- patch WoI = =This mod is designed for use with the Bunyap Weapons Pak of 6/06, as it contains all the needed weapons . If attempting to use this aircraft with any other weapons pak, you'll need to add ALL the WW2 era bombs, torpedoes, etc. They are NOT included in this package.= As you probably suspect, there's a highly detailed, step-by-step readme included, so you'd be wise to read it!!! And as always, the usual notes and comments and general nonsense.... Happy Hunting! Wrench Kevin Stein
  10. You can have a lot of fun with squadron codes... when I did this skin, I didn't even consider that my initials would show up on an airplane!! That Sterling is coming along quite nicely!! Wrench kevin j. stein
  11. Here's a couple of other I'm working on for the 'early war-ish' times, ie: Solomons: VT-3 Avengers (reworked data ini creates TBF-1, with 30 cal nose gun) USS Saratoga, circa battle of santa cruz (or generic!) VMF-124 F4U-1 (NOT -1A!!!) Obviously, the major difference is it SHOULD be birdcage Corsair, but we work with what we have. Still tring to figure out a decal to 'fake' the frameworks. White 13 is Ken Walsh's aircraft. Wrench kevin stein
  12. You WILL wind up reskinning a LOT of them....simple because most of the insigina's got painted on. Expecially for the Spits and Hurris. This is most true for the DAT planes. However, there are some with decals (probably done by me); you'll just have to find them As for Wolf's birds, most of them already have decal positons plotted, you'll just have to find the skins to read the decals inis. btw, there's a P-40E-N template at simmerspaintshop, that is identically mapped for the DAT P-40E. I should know - it's the one I used! Like MigBuster said, you can use 'insigina', as long as the data and texture set inis are Nation Specific. Or just put the decal in the skin folder. 13. There's a female pilot for the Talon I did a while back.... Ok, quick report on the WW2 Birds I've got in my TMFWP install... on autopilot takeoff, ALL show a marked pitchdown when flaps are retracted, which I think is probably normal P-51D - seems almost unchanged. Handles like in SF/WoE. Shadow messed up Mc-205 - no longer explodes at mission start!!! YIPPEE!! (at least on medium/large runways). No marked handling differences Spits 5, 9, 22 - "twitchy" in hard turns (which may be normal?) bleeds speed fairly rapidly in hard climbs on 5/9. 22 has enough power to maintian, but also bleeds fairly rapidly. Beau TFX - no marked differences; it was always a little sluggish in turns (I think real ones were, too) Mossie FB6 - PHENOMAL (sp?) roll rates!! Handles beautifully. Shadow works good (more later). Needed decals ini fix Vampire 5/50 - handles pretty good. Shadow messed up Bf-109G10 (S-199 stand in) - departs flight if manhandled. Smooth inputs, and not pushing envelope handles fair. May be normal for this aircraft??? Need a WW2 FM expert to weigh in on this one... Some others not tested yet are: Sabre MD-450 Orugan (sp?) SMB2 (ErikGen's) Mystre 4 (by??) Harvard C-47/Dakota EAF B-17 Cool Things: Damage to engnie shuts it down!!! FINALLY!!!! Some props will windmill, others grind to a stop -- nice touch!! Other issues: Cockpit (dash panel) on S-199 totally unreadable on med/high cockpit details. May need panel redone or something. TGAs for Mustang (needles and such) showing pinkish border (but they have for a while, so it's no biggie) Shadows on Mustang and Vampire wacked - easily fixed by going into main ini, and changing "CastShadow=" to FALSE. No biggie! Like CA_Stary said, it may be worth it create an Experimental Flight Testing Install for WW2 aircraft...which I will probably do next week, for S**ts and Grins As if I haven't enough to do.... Wrench kevin stein edit: ps: anyone notice that pilot pic #33 is Richard Bong???
  14. Don't forget, Mirage Factory has a whole new one coming out, at some point in the future. Wrench kevin stein
  15. Nice Lloyd!! I have enhanced templates, if you're a needing them. Reminds me to finish off my A-24 Banshee....be nice to have to have to have it get shot down over New Gueinea. Easy to re-decals for Free French AF too. Wrench kevin stein
  16. I think there's a LOT of hidden imporvements in this patch. All the Migs/Sus, etc now have the "UseMetricUnit=TRUE" in their data inis, ALL the data ini got 2 new AI sections (StrafeAI, RocketAttackAI). The Hunters NOW carry their UK bombs --ok, I gotta know how they Friendly weapons to load on ENEMY aircraft!!! -- Interestering to note, it didn't remove the cockpits from the 17,19,21s or Hunters. It just replace the main ini (as all patches do), so it was a simple matter to just re add the lines down side: still no cockpit bits for the Hunter and SMBD/Sa'ar (again, not a real problem for Woe/SF/WoV owners) UP side: control/I !!! Engine shut down!!! Still exploring the various inis and such. Have to patch my Historic Mods install, and see how the prop planes act. So far, a good improvement. Wrench kevin stein
  17. Those with modded installs might find the information in this post (avalibable in the KB for the last several years) quite usefull: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=25880 Please direct your attention to item #12, down near the bottom. With thanks to Dave for coming up with the original post Wrench kevin stein
  18. I would most likely suspect so, given audio-only systems have been in use since WW2 (Mustang and Jug come to mind right off, plus the 'Boozer' lights on Mossies) Super easy to do -I should know, I 'invented' it!! --- ok that tutorial dosen't seem to be in the KB...I'll get a version up there ASAP (ie: as soon as I find where I put the notes....) Wrench kevin stein
  19. Been buzzing my house in SoCal map for a while!!!! Its fun!! Shoot, I'll even whip out a sign to place my NFG's house!! Wrench kevin stein
  20. I'm nearing the end of a rebuild of my rebuild of the Solomons Island upgrade, and i was wondering... as I often do.. Is there anyway to add trees ala Green Hell to this terrain?? It really could use some jungle!! It'sjust sooo...EMPTY! I know the naming conventions of the tiling is different from, say WoVs and CA_Stary's Green Hells, but is there a way to fake it, by renaming the TOD files (like can be done with the GermanyCE tiles, to add more city buidlings from Polaks tiles) Anyone have any thoughts on this matter??? Obviously, we want to avoid an complete terrain rebuild... Wrench kevin stein
  21. Thanks CA! It's being handled even as we speak ... The Master Tree Man himself has offered to help out, and it doing his "Johnny Appleseed"* bit. I can't wait to see the results! After I get the new bits, I'll have to go back and recheck the targets placements, but that's not big deal. Some things should be covered in trees (supply dumps, etc) Wrench kevin stein *mythical American figure, for our overseas friends; legend says he walked the lenght and breadth of the cournty, planting apple trees for all to enjoy.
  22. allen: oh, dopey me!!! If I'd looked into the "full all is everything" install, instead of my SWOTL install, I'd have seen it. Had it since it first came out. I'd totally forgotten about it!! I think a more expansive map would be great! Covering more of the northern regions and North Sea. Wrench kevin stein
  23. The terrain itself will be worth the download, trust me Wrench kevin stein
  24. It's theoretically possible to convert the WW2 Euro terrain for modern usage....just not sure about the airfield locations (which would be pretty easy to find) It would probably need retiling to create new airfield exclusion zones, given the fact the most of the WW2 airfields would be gone, and the newer 1950s and up bases take their place. On both sides. The scale is about right, too. Looks like it covers East Germany, parts of Poland, Czechoslovakia, and points in between. Aviono is even listed. Wrench kevin stein
  25. I spent over a half hour looking for that damn thing for Stick this afternoon...and I COULDN"T find it!!!! thanks LP! belive that s**t? couldn't even find my own turorial! Must be getting old.... Wrench kevin stein
