With absolutely NO relation to the African or English swallow (other then not liking them very much) This angry bird is usually seen swooping down on vehicles, dropping little 'presents', or doing other disgusting things to ships, buildings, and large bombers. It should be noted, this is a BETA, as there are a few little glitches on the physical model. When time presents itself, our Illustrious Model Maker may fix the few small errors. Hopefully, I'll get the readmes finished (if I can ever get away from 'fixing' all the Paki, Indian and Chinese Fishbeds -- don't ask!!), and have it ready for upload this weekend. When I got this machine in Dec 04, when I loaded XvT and XWA, I just used the 'compatabiility' thingy...think I set it Win98. haven't flown either in a while...guess I'll have to test and make sure they're still working! What's good about XvT, is you don't have to worry about time lines fouling. As for the mission sets, they're other folks work from the DOS series (XW, TF), I just did the conversion/editing to make the playable in XvT. Some of them need the Draconis Ship Patch, especially the ones converted from TF. Never could get the dos batch file to work in XP; had to use an old 98 machine to run it, then transfer the ENTIRE game over to the new machine (that was fun ...NOT!!!) Not sure about copywrites; for personal site like me don't seem to be a problem. For for a big one like this...well, most of the missions sets have original dates from 1994 and up! Take a browse over there, and let me know if you want any of them uploaded. Some are pretty good (if I say so myself; after major editing!!) One of the best is "Battle in the Outer Rim Territorties". Orignially, it replaced the 5 campaigns in XW. Another major rebuild, of good missions to star, is "Headhunter TOD". That one, historically, is one of the first sets EVER built for XW -- in the Dark Days of DOS. I like it, what can I say???? Wrench Kevin Stein

I was actually thinking more of 'stand off' ranges...that Flogger's gonna put an R-40 right up the wazzoo before you even know he's there!!! Turning duel, I'll take the 'stang! (or any of them!) I'd forgotten the Jug's had them too. Don't forget the SPAD that got the Mig-17 with A-G rocket!!! Reminds me of an old Martin Caiden sci-fi story; the greatest fighter pilot that ever lived died, and goes to Hell. The Devil challenges him to 3 dogfights; if he wins, he gets to return to Earth, and live in any time of his choosing. One of the fights he takes an I-16 agianst the Devil's(something fast and cool). Thrashes him totally! And so on for the other encounters. Which he wins, hands down. The Devil makes good on his bargin, and returns him to earth in the later 21st Century, where he fly aero-space fighters (endo-exo atmospheric) against invading aliens. Important Notice for Chinese, Indian and Pakistani Fishbed Variants While running through these aircraft, and there are PLENTY!, I've discovered a few things Using the latest patched versions of SF or WoE (and assuming WoV as well), there are serious issues with the aircraft lod files. Many of you have run into this already, with missing pilots, misplaced afterburner emmitters and decals. 'Wonky' landing gear wheels (they look like used shopping carts!!), and a host of smaller problems. Using the latest patched versions is what's causing the problems. So far, these are the aircraft I've found to be affected, from Madcaddie's "More MiGs Paks", and howling1's F/J-7 and InAF Paks (and possible other folks whose names I can't find): F-7A Export F-7BS F-7MP Airbolt F-7MP Airbolt GFS F-7P Skybolt F-7P Skybolt GFS J-7 III (J-7C) J-7 III ML J-7D J-7E Type 74 Type 76 Type 77 Type 95 Type 96 MiG-21 Bison MiG-21 Lancer What it comes down to, is if you use the latest lod, you'll get all kinds of weirdness. The only sure cures are: a) rebuild the aircraft from scratch -- not a truely viable option, given the time needed. Or; b) use lods from an earlier, unpatched version. Now, let me explain that last statement... These aircraft are ALL pre-Patch 4, and most likely, pre-Patch 3. If you're lucky (or just plain lazy), like I've been on a few of my installs, and NOT patched them up to current standards (say, like the Iran/Iraq set, or possibly DBS), you can use the Cat Extractor to 'acquire' the necessary files. Then you just drop them into the folders of the aircraft requiring The Fix. By doing this, you change nothing in any of the inis, but in a sense 'restore' the model to it's original state. If you have this option available, I can't stress this enough --- USE IT!!! Now, to find out just exactly what parts are needs, we can consult our built-in catalogue, the aircraft's main ini. These list all needed bits; what inis describe the cockpit files, loadouts, aerodynamics. Most importantly, for us right now, they list the various lods and shd (shadow) files needed for the physical aircraft to appear in-game. In the example below, we're looking at the Type 74: (Note: this is using the stock, 3rd Wire lods -- NOT those from the Mirage Factory's superb release) You can see I've highlighted the LODs with blue, and the SHD in green. Again, it's a simple matter to extract them, and CUT/PASTE, or MOVE to the relevant aircraft folder. Do not leave them in the /objects folder where they 'arrive' after extraction...they need to be IN the aircraft's folder for the game engine to see them. Simply put, the engine "looks" into folders first before drawing what it needs from the cat files. And, yes you need to use ALL the listed lods, or you risk more weirdness. Simply put, all the above listed aircraft, expecially the more modern ones, need some work. I've fiddled with the Bison, and gotten it pretty damn close, given the fact we don't have a really good "late model" cockpit for a single engined Red Air bird by useing and tweeking the A-4F's. Even though it's not accurate, it's a 'best, closest, fit' given it's radar screen has buttons around it, and it has a modern-ish RWR display. For the older versions, the Fishbed pit that's available here at CA is 99.9% what's needed. If anyone has any questions, comments, needs more help, please feel free to post on the borads, email or PM me here. The best fix is to upload completed aircraft, with the 'backdated' lods, but I feel that might not be allowed. Wrench Kevin Stein

I always stuck to the 'flight' simulators...I just like the idea of being behind the controls of a X-Wing or TIE. As for missions, there's like 500-700 mission files, in many sets, converted from the old DOS XW or TF for use with XvT on my site. Got three mission sets for XWA that I've never uploaded. Mostly XWA upgrades of the XvT sets. Guess I'll have to upload them... Wrench Kevin Stein

We can't actually simulate that, but creating an audio RWR is no problem. question, is there any way that i could adjust the guns so that the bullets go parallel instead of crossing at a certain distance? It's called boresighting ... and {sigh} the lack of research shows again... ww2 aircraft had their guns set to cross at a certain distance. In fact (and a little research will prove this out), many aircraft had each PAIR of guns boresighted to differing distances. ie: for instance, 400 yards for outboards, 300 yards for center, 200 yards for inner. But to answer the question, it's called "AimAngles", and yes they are adjustable. can a heetseeker acquire a mustang? Not really; not enough heat signature from piston engines...even a 9L or possibly 9X would have difficulty. Trust me, I've already been there and done that! If you want missiles, stay with the jets. Leave the WW2 stuff as it is ... they're damn near perfect for what their mission is. {Angry Rant mode, ON} @$%&* ()%{_@_%$@!(_) }{ -- I edited myself before typing. Great idea!!! Just like the 'List of Ground Objects' and such!! Very cool! I'll have to update your start, as you can see I been busy adding more stuff. Having a hell of time with the InAF Type 95, 96 and 21 Bison. Many lod and skin problems...to say nothing of the avionics and missing weapons. Had to create HAL built copies of the APU-62s for them, and all kinds of other stuff. These birds need almost total rebuilds...the Bison just seem too fast; need in FM guru on that one. Been trying to figure out what to use for the KAB-500 EOGB (HAL built??) for the Bison and their 27's ... this would be needed for the standard Sov stuff, too. Maybe just use the stock FAB500 body, and adjust accordingly.... an new model would be best,with the 'eyeball' in front Wrench Kevin Stein lost and confused..... again!

Indian Air Force Type 74 Fishbed C (model by 3rdW, mods by howling1) NOTE: it is critically important that you use the lods supplied with this kit!! All the InAF Fishbeds are built on models that are Pre-Patch4, and if you use the later lods, you're going to run into a boatload of problems. Things will not line up, stuff will be mounted funny, and you'll have all kinds of visual anomolies by mixing and matching lods. This is especially important in the Type 95 & 96 (which, unfortunately, don't have the lods in the package. I'll cover their issues when I get posting them) All the Indian MiG's came with cockpit files of various types; it's my suggestion that you replace them with Magoo's superb Fishbed cockpit, available here at CA. This is the original Fishbed that India recieved; it is a gunless, missile-less bird. The InAF had the Soviets create the GP-9 gunpod for this aircraft. Somebody needs to take this boy out to the back alley and give him an understanding......what's next??? A P-38 with a ramjet under it's belly???? Did you get any error messages after the crash, or did it just THUD to the desktop??? Nation name shouldn't matter, it stays USAF for the most part. On a side note, what I did for my WW2 install, is changed the displayed name for USAF to "United States Army Air Force". That keeps the nation type the same at USAF (easier on the wepons pak - no editing of weapons is required) ie: [Nation002] Name=USAF DisplayName=United States Army Air Force Alignment=FRIENDLY PlayerFlyable=TRUE However, anything AFTER 1947, is gonna be USAF. Unless it belongs to somebody else (Isreal, Switzerland, Guatemala, etc) I'd suggest checking the max weight for the HVAR stations, and using them for you impossible heater loadout. Leave the main inboard stations alone, as you'll need them for the drop tanks. Cross check the Sidewinder weight against the HVAR weight. (you'll find a big difference) Wrench Kevin Stein -
