  1. Picture-001.jpg

    Well, here it is...nothing fantastic, but I like it. It's the Hasegawa 1/72 Spitfire Mk.IX...painted in quasi-accurate No 331 Sqn colors.

    Had some silvering with the decals...not sure why...I "futured" the whole thing and used solvaset. Some decals are just picky.

  2. Well, I totally screwed the pooch with my A-4. Had to send it to the spares box. :cray:

    I did manage to finish a 1/72 F-100D in SEA camo, though. Not pleased with the weathering, but at least I finished it.

    About to finish a Spitfire Mk.IX...looks nice. Nothing fancy, but for some reason after screwing up a few, it makes me feel better! :biggrin:

    I might post a pic of that one.

    And your cockpits look awesome Paul! Don'tcha just love dry brushing? Such a simple technique that makes a world of difference.

  3. I think the one in the NASM is 1/100. Can't remember. I do remember a Finescale Modeler back in the late 80's that had an article on a 1/72 carrier. I was like 13 at the time and totally blown away...still am actually.

  4. For those of you who are interested, you can now add Aces with their own skin. Unpack the Operation Michael campaign data file and look for these entries under Jasta 11:

    KnownAce[01].LastName=Richthofen

    KnownAce[01].FirstName=Manfred

    KnownAce[01].RankID=5

    KnownAce[01].NumMissions=129

    KnownAce[01].AirKills=64

    KnownAce[01].AircraftNumber=28

    KnownAce[01].Texture=RichthofenM

    The two Richtofens are the only ones with custom skins in the stock Operation Michael campaign, but I'm sure you budding modders can remedy this! :biggrin:

  5. Nice shots! Feels good to back into the hobby doesn't it? Did the same thing after a 10 year absence myself.

    Well I've decided to shelve the damn Nieuport 11...can't bring myself to do the rigging yet. I just finished a Dh.2, and the rigging on that thing was enough to put me over the edge for awhile.

    I think I'll finish the Super Sabre. Next up is the A-4C in VA-76 colors.

    Not sure if I'll post any shots...I'm not that good...but I do enjoy building them.

    That's why I like ARC...lotta different skill levels represented...and Steve Bamford is a great guy.

  6. Arcade-type sims have to sacrifice something in order to get those shiny graphics. That something would be Flight Models. It's all about physics, man. It takes a whole bunch of computing power to get a realistic feeling of flight. Do arcade sims have spins or stalls? Nope. How about ground effect or crosswinds? Not there. Most everyday-Joe gamers don't want to set the mixture controls or mess with prop pitch.

    Take a look at FSX. It's got some of the prettiest graphics of any flight sim, ever....including light bloom. But when you turn the graphics on, it slows to a crawl. Even the latest PCs can't run it maxed out. I should know, I've got an Alienware that only gets single digit frames when I max out the graphics. And you could argue that the FM in FSX is a bit dodgy, but that's another thread... :smile:

  7. Let's see...all of these are 72nd...the only scale I can afford :biggrin:

    Finishing the painting on a Nieuport 11...then the fun begins...RIGGING!!!

    In the process of working on the following...I have a bad habit if starting one, then starting another...only to finish the first one later.

    Tamiya (Italeri...old ESCI maybe) F-100D in NMF

    Revell F-16C...haven't made up my mind what markings or weapons to hang on this one yet

    TWO F-15s...a C and an E, both Hasegawa

    Colonial Viper Mk.7...resin...my first...kinda scared

    A "What-if" V-tailed racing Corsair...I got the cheap Testor F4U at Hobby Lobby for like 2 bucks and decided to do something different

    F-5A...Italeri

    F-20 Hasegawa (the Tigershark seems to be a fav here)

    Academy F-8E

    ESCI Spad XIII

    And countless other still sitting in their boxes.

  8. I've always had a problem adding a flyable squadron that I've added to the bottom of the unit list. When I replace an existing or add it right after the last unit of the country I'm flying for, I'm fine. For example, if you wanted to add a new USA squad:

    Unit01

    USA

    Unit02

    USA

    Unit03 <------ADD new USA squadron here

    USA

    Unit04

    SOVIET

    UNIT05

    SOVIET

    UNIT06

    SOVIET

    <-------NOT here

    Of course, you'll have to renumber every single squad that comes after, but I can't get it to work otherwise.

    However, I haven't messed with campaigns in a long time, so I'm might be wrong. But IIRC, this was the workaround for that issue. Also, check your numbering in the campaign.ini file. If you screw up the sequence, anything below where you screwed up won't be flyable.
