Is anyone running SF2 on a Western Digital Velociraptor Hard Drive? If so, is it worth the money for the extra 2800 RPM?
-
I thought about running SSDs but I need 4 1TB drives and the Velociraptor seemed like a good choice. Guess I'll have to do some more research.

I need help with a couple of campaign and terrain issues that have me stumped. These aren't show stoppers but annoying little ankle biters that keep popping up. While strolling through the SF1 campaigns download section about a year ago I came across Gepard’s Rolling Thunder campaign for SFP1 : http://combatace.com/files/file/1154-rolling-thunder/. This intrigued me a bit so I downloaded it and found there is no read me and no instructions. Considering I have and fly Wings over Vietnam and this seemed to be redundant and otherwise useless I put it aside. While looking for SF1 projects to play with, I kept coming across this campaign and it began to challenge me to put together a SFP1/SFG Vietnam install. As there were no instructions, I looked at the required campaign planes, ships, etc, and found many of the required items are not in SFP1/SFG. And where it would be easy enough to 'borrow' items from WoV, I decided to challenge myself and not use any items from Wings Over Vietnam. I figured Wings Over Europe was fair game and borrowed the B-52, F-105D and a ship from that game. All other items would be 3rd party, ie. the Mirage Factory, Armour Dave, RAZBAM, DAT, YAP, etc.. This also gave me a chance to use some the old planes and items I quit using as the SF1 games progressed and some SF2 items were usable for my WoV installs. So, I got a Strike Fighters Vietnam install put together. Still lots of details to tweak but most is up and running. My first and most annoying problem seems to be related to the campaign. It uses Gepard’s DRV terrain available here: http://combatace.com/files/file/1644-drvv151/. It was created to use SFP1/SFG. This terrain includes USAF bases in Thailand. When I fly from the Thailand bases in single mission mode, the bases are friendly/blue as they should be. BUT when I fly from the Thailand bases in campaign mode the bases are enemy/red. I'm lucky to make it off the runway before the base's anti-air defense guns open up on me. Makes take offs and landings knuckle whitening events. I've stared at the campaign data.ini entries till my eyes crossed. I just don't know enough about campaign.ini files to know what to look for or what to change. SO... my first question is to campaign experts: Does anyone know what causes the afore mentioned problem and how to fix it? Secondly, if you've never flown the DRV terrain, you missed out on one of SF1's most interesting terrains. You can set the game on easy but I think the terrain just ignores that. There are more sams and more flak in the air over mission targets than I've seen on any other terrain while set on easy. I get blown out of the sky more than any other game with the possible exception of SF2NA. SO... my second question is to terrain gurus: How can I turn down the amount of anti-air defense and sams when I've already set the game to easy? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I PM'd Gepard a couple of months back about these issues but he currently seems to be on a sabbatical from Strike Fighters and I've received no answer from him. As I said, these aren’t show stoppers but would like to learn how to fix these if possible. And, yes I do have and play a couple dozen SF2 installs. This has just become a challenge I’ve enjoyed assembling. And yes, I know I can just put my big boy pants on and quit whining about being shot down all the time and take it like a man, but #@&%*!!, flying over this terrain is a &*^%$!. Any help is appreciated. Geary

Does anyone know how to animate the tailhook on the TW F-15A
Geary replied to Geary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
ravenclaw_007, Thanks, your data did the job. Works fine now. It's not part of my original TW F-15A data.ini. Now I can tail hook with the worst of them. -

I'm wanting to do this to the TW F-15A cause I've already done a skin for that plane for the USN. -

Need Vietnam F-111 Help
Geary posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
We have a ton of great F-111's and there's a bit of info on the web that I've been able to find, but can't seem to narrow down which of the versions/models/units we have that flew in Vietnam. Do we have or has anyone put together a pack of Vietnam specific F-111's models/versions/skins? If not, can anyone tell me which models/versions/skins we have were flown in Vietnam? TIA, Geary -

LeL, Thanks for the response. Combat Lancer is covered her at CA but we seem to jump from Combat Lancer to post Vietnam in the F-111 skins here. Combat Lancer lasted about 3 months and was a bit of a failure. I've been looking for skins/units that cover the Linebacker and Linebacker II campaigns. Much more combat time than Combat Lancer. I've got your skins and upgrades and really appreciate your work on the Aardvarks. Maybe when I get the info and time I'll re-decal a few for the Linebacker I & II periods. -

MigBuster, Thanks for the info. Can't seem to find any skins for Vietnam F-111's after Combat Lancer. May have to make some myself. -

Stick, Thanks, I know we have a skin for that unit. Any idea about which units we have skins for that came after Combat Lancer? -
AH-1 Cobra. Family wip.

Thanks for looking into it. I love your helo's and still fly SF1. But those shadow lines are real detractors. Sorry someone is using your cockpit without permission or credit. Don't let it get you down. Your work is too good to be stopped by unethical people. -

yakarov79, Do you plan to fix the shadow lines on these SF1 helo's? I know you fixed them on the SF2 choppers, but they don't work in SF1. Or have I missed something? -
I just ordered a ASUS ROG GL551JW-DS71 15.6-Inch FHD Gaming Laptop, NVIDIA GTX960M 15.6-Inch FHD Screen. NVIDIA GTX960M 2G GDDR5. Intel Core i7-4720HQ 2.6 GHz Processor (Turbo to 3.6GHz). 1 TB 7200 rpm Hard Drive. 16 GB DDR3 RAM. Wireless 802.11 A/B/G/N. Gigabit Ethernet Port. Signature ROG aluminum chassis. 3x USB 3.0, 1x HDMI, 1x MiniDisplay. SDXC Card Reader. 720P HD Webcam It should arrive tomorrow. I've worked on Alienware laptops and while I thought they were great, they are also very proprietary and difficult to work on. At least for me. And granted, they were a few years old. I bought this for gaming; mostly for SF1/SF2. Also got a Saitek Cyborg / Mad Catz F.L.Y 5 collapsible/adjustable handle joystick for it for when I travel. I'll let you know how this one works once I replace the hard drive with a Western Digital Black 750GB 7200RPM hard drive.

Ice Duel Problem in SF2

You're right, the nations.ini doesn't have Thailand listed. Think I'll put it in. Let you know how it goes. -
Ice Duel Problem in SF2
Geary replied to TheWarrior's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Does changing the Location number change anything else? For instance, in DRV Thailand is in Location=4. If I change it to Location=1, will it screw things up? I checked the targets.ini. Can't find anything wrong. Of course I have no idea what I'm looking at. So ... I'm wondering if I just take all the Thailand airbases out of the target.ini, will things still work without getting my tailpipe shot off on the runway? -

EUREKA! (I know, ... I don't smell so good myself.) Cockpit parts I want gone are gone. Thanks to all for assistance. -
Ice Duel Problem in SF2
Geary replied to TheWarrior's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
I have this problem with Gepard's SF1 DRV terrain using his Rolling Thunder Campaign for SPF1, except it's enemy AAA. And it only happens from airbases in Thailand. An enemy airbase spawns next to the friendly base a second or two after the mission starts. Then their AAA opens up on me. Rarely get off the runway. I'd like to know what causes these hiccups, too. -

Do335, Thanks for the graphics and explanation. I learn better with pictures and simple sentence explanations. This works well in SF2. Now to figure out how to do this in SF1. The same method doesn't seem to work in SF1. I've been trying to hide the missile lights and weapon selector box in the SF1 F-100D cockpit. So far no joy. Will keep at it. Thanks, again. -

Thank you guys for those very informative answers. Do I need to learn a secret hand shake or something before you will tell me how to do this? Or is this one of those life lessons I have to figure out on my own like Beaver Cleaver's dad is always making him learn? Wrench, got the P-70 release. Thanks again to you and Raven for all the work you two did to give that old bird a new lease on life. -
When one of you dabblers in the magic arts have a few minutes could you please create a nose antenna for the A-20 Havoc to convert it to a P-70 Night Hawk? It can be a weapon or fake pilot. Weapon would be my first choice. It's that pointy thing sticking out the nose of the plane. Anticipated question: "Why don't you do it yourself?" Anticipated answers: 1. "Do I look like someone who knows what he's doing?" 2. "I'm not allowed to do that sort of thing since the incident with the vibrator." 3. "I don't have the software and wouldn't know what to do with it if I did have it." I can trade services with you if you can figure out anything I'm good at you want that's socially acceptable. Thanks in advance, Geary
