1960 Era Royal Navy Launching and Recovering Aircraft

Great video of the RN launching and recovering aircraft during the 1960's. I'm not familiar with the prop plane in this video. Can someone identify it, please? Thanks, Geary -

Checkyersix, I think you're right. I googled the Fairey Gannet and it sure looks like it. Interesting contra-rotating propellers. -
Erik, Thanks for the explanations and category listings. Can you please tell me how to upgrade my subscription? I can find a link to renew my current subscription, but can't find the link to upgrade it. Thanks for your help. Geary

Dave, Thanks for the explanations. I was in the military. Who, what, when, where, how do I join the military veterans' group? Geary

Can't Get Decal to Show Up On Plane
Geary posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hi All, I've got a problem with getting decals to show up. I've seached the KB and read and read the Decal Tutorial until after about the 4th reading my eyes crossed. My left eye still refuses to straighten out and focus and begins to spasm everytime I think about reading anything about decals. So I'm wondering if there's a begginer's guide to making decals already in the D Folder inside the Texture folder show up on the plane. I downloaded some great skins to turn the F-86 into a Navy Fury 2/3. The pictures advertising the skins (Picture 1) clearly show NAVY and VF-84 across the back end of the fuselage, as well as other decals on the tail and wings. The decals .tga's are in a D Folder inside the VF-84 Texture folder. I load the plane with the VF-84 skin and number 113, like in the picture. It defaults to US Navy for country. But no NAVY decal shows up on the plane (Picture 2). Any simple explanation to help me figure this out is appreciated. Or if you can point me to something in the KB or anywhere else that makes sense to slow-wits, I'll give it another try. Thanks, Geary -

Wrench, Got it figured out and fixed. But it's too embarrasing to tell you how, although it does relate to another convention of this game I'm trying to figure out. -

Wrench, Thanks for the effort. That didn't fix it, but it gives me something to do to eventually get it figured out and you gave me somewhere to start. Geary -

Hi all, I've seached all over Strike Fighter sites and can't seem to figure out how to make a new mission. I've found a few mission editors that edit already made missions, but nothing that creates a new mission or how to make a campaign. I've tried the single mission maker in the game, but can't find anyway to save the mission once I've made it. Guess I'm used to the CFS2 mission builder. Help please? Thanks, Geary

Non-Afterburner Effects
Geary posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hi All, I have some pre-afterburner jets, predominately in my Korean War install. I noticied when I go to full throttle there's no effect whatsoever from the tail pipe. Much like the expression on my face when my girlfriend explained shopping strategies to me. I don't expect to see afterburner effects but I'm wondering if there's an effect for these jets? I've searched the effects section and found lots of afterburner effects. I'm looking for a bit more than nothing but much less that afterburner fire. Maybe some heat waves and vapors with a touch of fire???? Anyone know of such a thing or how I can make this? Thanks, Geary -
I'm Stumped! How do you build a new mission?
Geary replied to Geary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I think I'm begging to see what you mean by "Less a hobby, more a way of life." I've got to slow down on my learning. Been picking up bits and pieces around this site for the last couple of weeks. My head fills up quickly as there isn't much space in there. I need to flush the cache and sort the information. Think I'm addicted to this game. -

In-Flight Map Lost It's Terrain Features
Geary posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi All, I recently changed my Korea Terrain for a payware version. While I'm still evaluating the payware version I noticed the in-flight map lost the terrain features beneath the map grid lines. I went from the first picture to the second. Everytime I switch to map view I feel like I'm flying in the Bermuda Triangle. Any idea how to get the terrain features into the new terrain? Thanks, Geary -
I'm Stumped! How do you build a new mission?
Geary replied to Geary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Baltika, Thanks for the reply. I downloaded Le Missionneur and the tutorial. The tutorial is a start, but, any idea if there is a manual for this program? I learn best by step-by-step, clear, concise, correct and complete instructions. I'm afarid I was ruined for intuitive thinking by too many years in the US Army. On the up side, I see pain-laden possiblities in these programs. I wrote a simple mission and got it to load. Unfortunately, haven't gotten it to do what I want, yet. Think I'll hold off on trying campaigns for awhile. But I'll try what you suggest and see where it leads. Maybe even look for Lowengrin's campaign editor. Thanks, again, Geary -
Hi All, I've serached the Knowledge Base(s) but haven't found a direct reference to where to place user created campaigns and missions in SF2 generation games. I have created folders in my ...\Saved Games\ThireWire\Strike Fighters 2 folders as suggested in the Knowledge Base, but it doesn't mention anything about creating Campaign and/or Mission folders. Should I create Campaign and Mission folders and drop the user created campaigns and missions in these folders?? If not, where do the campaigns and mission go? Any help in clearing this up is appreciated. Geary

Hi All, I'm looking for a screen capture program to use in Strike Fighters. I currently use GrapClipSave and it works fine in most of my flight sims but only shows black screens in saved pics of Strike Fighters and IL-2. ( Makes me think I left the lens cap on, again.) Suggestions are appreciated. Geary

Thanks, I'll try Snapper, but out of curiosity, where does the built in screen shot program save the pictures? I hear the shutter click when I press print screen, but can't find the result. -

Thin Black Wire Lines Attached to Planes
Geary replied to Geary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks Guys, Wrench, your adjustment to the aircraftdata.ini files took care of the lines. Which didn't really change anything because apparently they weren't casting shadows anyway (reminded me of my ex-wife ). Dave, The planes were the Razbam Banshees and MontyCZ's F-89C Scorpion. Thanks, again Geary -
