WIP for WoI
LloydNB replied to LloydNB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Thanks Wrench I was using the Hunter installs in WoI as a guide and could work out why the Vampire ordinance didn't show. I never thought that the Hunter was wrong in the first place. The whole connection between "enemy/friendly", weapon attachment and weapon type has always confused the hell out of me. Given that only the Arab forces used UK ordinance in 1967, could we change the 60lb rocket to be WP? The Suez Crisis would be a bit trickier due to the Israelis and Egyptians both using Meteors. Nice Bounder The Vampire skin is not my own - its the original Rafcamo. I still have to change the underside to silver. Decals came out well though. Can someone help with getting the Vampire armed. I've never been very good at using the weapons editor so I can't get the appropriate weapons show up for the Vampire. The 16lb rockets and 250lb bombs will have to be added to WoI. All I've been able to add successfully is the Vampire drop tank (unskinned). Thanks LloydNB -

MiG-15 & 6 Day War?
LloydNB replied to LloydNB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
It seems that nearly all Soviet aircraft used in 1967 were in their original bare metal. The exception were some MiG-19s used by Syria. Camo schemes were introduced after the Six Day War. I've decided that EAF MiG-15s, 17s and 19s should probably keep their wing and fuselage stripes. I have seen no evidence that the MiG-21F-13s had stripes but I'm happy for someone to prove me wrong. On a slightly different topic - as anyone done an Iraqi Venom in camo? LloydNB -
I'm working through Wings over Israel and adding cockpits to all the Arab aircraft. I thought I would add some of the missing 1967 aircraft while I was at it. Does anyone know whether the MiG-15s used by Egypt in 1967 still had their wing stripes? I noticed that the MiG-17s by TK do. Other aircraft that can be added on the Arab side for the 6 Day Way are the C-47 (the EAF still operated some in 11 Transport squadron) and the Vemon (6 Squadron, Iraqi AF). LloydNB

So will this work?
LloydNB replied to LloydNB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Thanks Wrench I had planned on something similar. I have just some fiddling to do with the Mk I - the location of the lighting effect for the inner guns and the shell ejection, and then getting the opacity of the panel lines just right for each skin. With the family around for Xmas, it might not be until the New Year that I release it. The Mk III is coming along nicely and I should get to start the Mk II shortly. LloydNB -
So will this work?
LloydNB replied to LloydNB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hi Wrench Yeah, I'll just have to include advice in the Readme on how to copy the F4F-4 folder, rename it Martlet I, II or III and make the other necessary changes. It just would have been more simple the other way. I do know the FAA serial numbers that were allocated to each Mk. If anyone has good information about which aircraft (FAA serial numbers) were allocated to each squadron and which aircraft code letter went with each serial number, I'd really appreciate it. Otherwise I'll just make it up. Thanks LloydNB -
I've been working on my Martlets (Mk I/II/III). Each will have its own DATA.ini to change the number, position and ammunition of the guns and whether the wings fold or not. Now I know, if you extract a file from the objects.cat that the game will read the extracted file in preference. But can you use this for individual skins? If I write a DATA.ini for the Martlet MkI and put it in the appropriate skin file, will the game read it? Or do you have to have a DATA.ini file in the aircraft's folder? If this works then it would allow a mixed flight of MkI and Mk IIIs by just selecting skins, rather than setting up separate installs for each aircraft. Any ideas? LloydNB

Martlet I
LloydNB replied to LloydNB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hi Wrench Yes its a new template. My scanner is getting a good work over. I plan to do a template for the Mk I, II and III, together with amended F4F-F_DATA.ini files for each so that the number of guns and their position is correct. The Mk I and III also have the folding wings turned off. I'm glad it meets with everyone's approval. I'll post some pictures of the Mk III tomorrow. LloydNB -

Bump. Progress shots. -
Progressing nicely. Only the aircraft codes and "ROYAL NAVY" decals to do. Only two skins for the Mk I. The all over grey shown earlier was the delivery paint for the Greece destined Mk IIIs that were transferred to Desert Air Force duty.

Hey Baltika As Wrench said, if you have a look at the EAF Vampire I've posted you will find some usefull 'Keep off" decals. If you're putting a number or letter on the nose-wheel door, the location is identified in the decals.ini file. I'm not sure what the underwing coding arrangement was for the RCAF Vampires but if you have a look at my RJAF Vampire, the decals.ini has the location of the main gear doors. Use whatever you find useful. Anything to see more Vampires in our skys! Cheers LloydNB
