------------------------------------------ Veltro2K's Vautour IIB/N - Updated for SF2 ------------------------------------------ This is an update of Veltro2K's Vautour IIB & IIN for Strike Fighters 2: Israel (SF2I). In the process of updating those aircraft (available at CombatAce in the SF1 Downloads section), I have also done my best to correct or mitigate these models' several anomalies: AI inability to taxi and takeoff correctly; AI aircraft exploding on the taxiway; AI problems handling the aircraft in flight; loadout errors; glaring white spots in the engine nacelles. Notes: You will notice that AI aircraft still bounce around just a bit while taxiing, but they do now take off in timely fashion. Thanks to Wrench for looking over an early version of this update and supplying some additional fixes and adjustments, as well as the F-86D cockpit for the IIN model. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Updates & Fixes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These aircraft versions incorporate a number of fixes and updates: - applied Veltro2K's fixpacks for B & N model - added damage TGAs from Christian59's "damage pack" - added Vautour destroyed model data - adapted decals for SF2 directory structure - added USERLIST.INI - added LOADOUT.TGA - spiffed up LOADING & HANGAR screens - darkened IDFCamo textures - removed spinner nodes to fix unsightly white spots within engine nacelles (no material assigned to spinner nodes) - corrected, renamed, or removed a number of node names within DATA.INIs - made engine ThrustPositions symmetrical to correct AI handling problems - tweaked landing gear data to improve AI ground handling behavior - added tail bumper to improve taxiing & takeoff stability - updated flight model for SF2 - tweaked loadouts & weapon stations - added F-86F cockpit from Dave Zurawski & the F-86F Development Team to the Vautour IIB - added F-86D cockpit from the Sabre Dog Team to the Vautour IIN - added Israeli AF '50s/'60s pilot model by Wrench & PappyCheckSix ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Installation ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Installation is simple: simply drop the Objects folder into your SF2I Mod Folder. ~~~~~~~ Credits ~~~~~~~ Original Aircraft: Veltro2K Flight Model: ThirdWire F-86F Cockpit: Dave Zurawski & F-86F Dev Team F-86D Cockpit: Sabre Dog Team Damage Textures: Christian59 IAF 50s/60s Pilot: Wrench & PappyCheckSix Misc. 2. Wrench: OK, thanks. Post whatever you work up here (or give me a link to download it). As for the AI statement, I commented it out because AI aircraft were having trouble hitting some waypoints. In my testing they fly exceptionally well without that AI statement. Eric Howes
  3. Guys: OK, so there is interest. Could I persuade either one of you to download the "preview" version and give it the once over before I upload a final version to CombatAce? https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/sf2v/VautourBN.rar Also, Wrench, would you be so kind as to grant permission to include the IAF 50s/60s pilot from your site in the package? Thanks, Eric Howes
  4. Hi All: Over the past week or so I've been updating my SF2I installation. Last tonight and today I took a crack at updating Veltro2K's Vautour IIB & N models for SF2I. (Complete list of fixes/updates below.) You can review the results by downloading this package from my site: https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/sf2v/VautourBN.rar If there's enough interest, I would be happy to upload this package to CombatAce. Also, if anyone has further suggestions, corrections, or fixes, I could incorporate those as well. Notes: You will notice that AI aircraft still bounce around just a bit while taxiing, but they do now take off in timely fashion. Also, by default these aircraft use the Israeli AF late '50s/early '60s pilot model available from Wrench's site here: http://p7.hostingprod.com/@wrench1smog.com/wrench14.html --------------- UPDATES & FIXES: These aircraft versions incorporate a number of fixes and updates: - applied Veltro2K's fixpacks for B & N model - added damage TGAs from Christian59's "damage pack" - added Vautour destroyed model data - adapted decals for SF2 file structure - added USERLIST.INI - added LOADOUT.TGA - spiffed up LOADING & HANGAR screens - darkened IDFCamo textures - removed spinner nodes to fix unsightly white spots within engine nacelles (no material assigned to spinner nodes) - corrected, renamed, or removed a number of node names within DATA.INIs - made engine ThrustPositions symmetrical to correct AI handling problems - tweaked landing gear data to improve AI ground handling behavior - added tail bumper to improve taxiing & takeoff stability - updated flight model for SF2 - tweaked loadouts & weapon stations - added F-86F cockpit from Dave Zurawski & the F-86F Development Team Eric Howes
  5. dogshu: I've seen several reports from users of campaign freezes/crashes with Mar and May 2010 patch levels in the various SF2 titles. This problem does not appear to be specific to the SF2V Expansion Pack. Unfortunately, I don't know of any fix for this behavior other than to wait for the next round of patches from ThirdWire. Eric Howes
  6. daddyairplanes: "Rivet Haste" was the code name for a program started in 1968 to boost the combat effectiveness of the USAF's F-4 Phantoms. The program is best known for producing specially modified F-4E Phantom IIs introduced in late 1972 to Udorn RTAFB that sported a number of improvements and enhancements, including: 1) slatted wings for better turning performance in dogfights; 2) APX-80 Combat Tree IFF interrogators to identify enemy aircraft; 3) wing-mounted TISEO (Target Identification System, Electro-Optical) telescopic sights that allowed long-range visual identification of aircraft; 4) improved cockpit layouts of key switches and controls (the "556 mod"). The Rivet Haste F-4Es are covered extensively in Marshall Michel's "Clashes: Air Combat over North Vietnam, 1965-1972." There were some F-4Ds that were fitted with the "Combat Tree," and the first of these arrived in the SEA theater from South Korea in Dec. 1971, but the Rivet Haste F-4s were F-4Es. Eric Howes
  7. ikon71: Try this one: http://forum.combatace.com/files/file/8128-mirage-factory-f-4e-phantom-arn-101/ Eric Howes
  8. Orangehat44: You're seeing gun tracers -- there's nothing wrong with your installation. If you'd like to adjust the color of the tracers, see the ReadMe for the Expansion Pack -- there's a section that provides instructions. Eric Howes
  9. Dave: Modders can do whatever they want, obviously. If their interest is exclusively in the Gen 2 sims, then that's their business. My point was only that there is a significant number of folks still playing the Gen 1 sims. Speaking for myself alone, I have both Gen 1 and Gen 2 versions of all the titles installed, yet I rarely fly the SF2 versions -- too much hassle. Between the broken installers (resulting in missing aircraft and skins), the various bugs in the latest patches (can't select friendly aircraft, missing text messages, etc.), and the broken SEA terrain, I can't be bothered. The Gen 1 sims lack the improvements in the Gen 2 versions, but for me those new features and improvements don't even come close to making up for the bugs, which are "showstoppers" in my book. The Gen 1 sims just work. Of course, I'm not on Vista or Win7, so I get no benefit from the DX10 shaders in Gen 2, which is undoubtedly a critical issue for Vista/Win7 users. Eric Howes
  10. Soulfreak: A good number of people, apparently. If you compare the download numbers for the SF2V version of the Expansion Pack with the WOV version, you'll find that both stand at around 1000 downloads. Now, those are just two theater-specific mods, but it is an interesting apples-to-apples comparison nonetheless. Eric Howes
  11. malibu43: That's correct. The customized Expansion Pack campaigns are not replaced. Eric Howes
  12. Folks: This mod may well work with the SF2V Expansion Pack, but the campaign files included here are modified versions of the stock campaigns. Thus, they do not incorporate any of the customizations made in the Expansion Pack campaigns, including all the new aircraft and textures. Mind you, that's no knock against this mod. Users should be clear on how this mod interacts with the Expansion Pack, though. Best, Eric Howes
  13. orsin: Yes, the issue has been raised with TK. I am a bit skeptical of whether he'll actually fix it, but he did say he would look into it. Thanks for testing it with the Mar 2010 patch for SF2I. Best, Eric Howes
  14. toonces: The "disappeared trees fix" is exactly what it sounds like -- a workaround that removes the trees from the terrain so that they don't produce the ugly trees/clouds visual mish-mash that you occasionally see with the Dec2009 and later patch level. By default, however, the Expansion Pack does not install the "disappeared trees" fix. You have to take an extra step (outlined in the ReadMe) to apply the fix, which is part of a larger set of fixes/updates for installations running at the Dec2009 or later patch level. See step g) in the installation section of the ReadMe for instructions. Eric Howes
  15. Stingray77: Why don't you apply it and find out? Eric Howes
  16. Stingray77: No, you do not need to apply the DATA.INIs to a May2009b or Jun2009b install. The changes to the F-4 models post-date those patch levels. (If you did apply the new DATA.INIs to a May2009b install, you'd break the ailerons again.) To change the VF-111 tail decals, drop the contents of the attached ZIP in the \Decals dir of your SF2V Mod Folder. Eric Howes
  17. Stingray77: No, the updated Expansion Pack files were built March 1. You posted March 4, and I produced the new DATA.INIs later that night. No, because what you're seeing is a difference in decals -- nothing to do with that DATA.INIs. Let me know if the new DATA.INIs fix the gear door hole. Eric Howes
  18. Stingray77: Try the attached F-4 DATA.INI files. There was a minor change to the node names on the nose gear for the F-4s. I also updated a few other weapon station node names that changed as well. Eric Howes
  19. Folks: SF2V Expansion Pack users can find an SF2V version of this package here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10466 Eric Howes
  20. View File WOV Air & Ground War Expansion Pack Gold - Jan 2012 Update WOV Air & Ground Expansion Pack v. 1.1 - Jan. 2012 Update This is an update package for the "Wings Over Vietnam: Air & Ground Expansion Pack v. 1.1" Gold/Final Release available at CombatAce. Containing fixes and enhancements for both the Aug. 2006 and Oct. 2008 patch levels, it is designed to be applied over the top of an existing installation of the version 1.1 Expansion Pack. You can download the three main Expansion Pack files here: Part 1: http://combatace.com/files/file/10281-wov-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-gold-part-1/ Part 2: http://combatace.com/files/file/10282-wov-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-gold-part-2/ Part 3: http://combatace.com/files/file/10300-wov-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-gold-part-3/ This update is designed to be applied over verison 1.1 (Mar. 2010) of the Expansion Pack. If you installed the original version 1.0 from Dec. 2009 but have not updated to the Mar. 2010 version (available in the links above), you should update before applying this update package. Please take a look over the remainder of this ReadMe before installing the update. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Installation ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The installation process has two phases: one for all patch levels; a second for the Aug. 2006 patch level. Here's how to apply this update package: 1. Ensure that WOV is properly installed and patched to either the 8.30.2006 or 10.20.2008 level. 2. Ensure that the Expansion Pack v. 1.1 (Mar. 2010) is installed to your WOV Installation Directory. 3. Unpack WOV_AG-XP_Apr11.7z to a safe place on your drive. 4. Open the \All_Patch_Levels directory. Drag and drop all the files and folders from within the \To_Install_Dir to your WOV Install Dir, overwriting as prompted. If you are running WOV at the Oct. 2008 patch level, then your installation process is finished. If you are running at the Aug. 2006 patch level, then you have one last step. 5. If you are running the Aug. 2006 patch level, then open the \Aug_2006_Patch directory. Drag and drop all the files and folders from within the \To_Install_Dir to your WOV Install Dir, overwriting as prompted. Now, perform some CLEANUP. This update splits the A-1H Skyraider into two aircraft: the older A-1H, used by the USAF and VNAF; the new A-1H_USN, used by the Navy. All the skins for the new A-1H_USN are included in this update. You should remove the following unused USN skin folders from the older A-1H folder in \Objects\Aircraft: USNGrey1 VA-25 VA-36 VA-52 VA-75 VA-95 VA-115 VA-145 VA-152 VA-165 VA-176 VA-196 VA-215 That's it. You should be good to go. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Optional A-1 Cockpits ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Included in the \OPTIONAL\A-1_Cockpits folder is an alternate cockpit for the A-1 Skyraiders. This cockpit, made by Dels, was released in Oct. 2011. The \A-1_Cockpits folder contains one copy of Dels' A-1 cockpit, including the \Cockpit folder as well as the necessary COCKPIT.INIs for each of the Skyraiders. Also included in A-1_Cockpits\old-cockpit are backups of the old .INIs and the old \Cockpit folder from the original Expansion Pack install. Note that the new A-1 cockpit is already installed to the newly added A-1H_USN aircraft. Thus, installation is necessary only for the older A-1H aircraft. To install: 1. Remove the existing \Cockpit folder from each of the A-1 folders in \Objects\Aircraft (found in your SF2V Mod Folder). 2. Copy the new \Cockpit folder to each of the A-1 folders in \Objects\Aircraft. 3. Copy the new COCKPIT.INIs to the appropriate A-1 folders in \Objects\Aircraft. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Note on the Helicopters ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Several helicopters have been added as flyable aircraft in this update. Set the "Flight Model" in "Game Play Options" to "Normal," and use your thrust vectoring controls in conjunction with the standard WOV flight controls to maneuver and fly the helos. At the end of the day, though, Strike Fighters is NOT a helicopter sim. That means helo flight models are rough, unrealistic, and borderline unstable. It also means that AI helo pilots can occasionally run into difficulties, esp. when trying to land these things. Until someone creates better helo flight models for WOV (or TK updates the ThirdWire flight engine to accommodate helicopters), that's just the way it is. If you don't like the way the helos fly, then don't fly them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What's Included ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This update (formerly the Sep. 2011 Update) was refreshed in January 2012. 22. verde13: I think the attached may be what you're looking for. Simply unpack the file(s) from one of the attached the ZIPs and drop it in the \Menu directory of your WoV Installation Directory or your SF2V Mod Folder. The file(s) simply restore WoV-style naming for mission types. Eric Howes
  23. Folks: I have uploaded updated versions of all the main files for both the WoV and SF2V Expansion Packs. These updated versions collect all the fixes and updates that were released over several months. They also contain some updates to both terrains -- see below for more info. Dave, now that the "roll-up" versions of the Expansion Pack files are uploaded, would you please remove the following unnecessary files from the "Downloads" section? http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10472 http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10466 http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10312 As mentioned above, these updated core files do contain some updates to both the North & South Vietnam terrains. Those who have previously applied all the updates through the "Feb. 2010 Refresh" can download a small 6 mb update to bring your installations current here: For SF2V Expansion Pack https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/sf2v/SF2V_TerrUpd.7z For WOV Expansion Pack https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/sf2v/WOV_TerrUpd.7z What follows is a list of the target areas added or updated: Added ----- An Bo POL Storage Depot * Xuan Bo Supply Depot * Mu Gia Transshipment Point * Ban Karai Transshipment Point * Ban Raving Transshipment Point * Lang Mo Transshipment Point * Haiphong Rail Yard Hanoi Rail Yard Thai Nguyen Rail Yard Yen Bai Rail Yard Thach Son Xa * Revised ------- Bai Thuong Cat Bi Dong Hoi * Hai Duong Haiphong Hong Gai Nam Dinh Nam Phong RTAFB * Ninh Binh Phu Tho Quon Lang * Son Tay Thai Nguyen Thai Nguyen Steel & Iron Works Uong Bi Vinh Son * * = both North & South Vietnam terrains Thanks, Eric Howes
  24. Stingray77: Starting in late '65 or early '66, the Navy began retrofitting some of its aircraft with ECM jamming equipment and chaff dispensers under Operation Shoehorn. In SF2V and the Expansion Pack later Navy aircraft models have jammers and, in some cases, chaff. None have flares. No USAF fighters or attack aircraft have chaff or flares. No MiGs are configured to use chaff. I did read that a few pilots reported seeing MiG-21s dump flares during Linebacker, so I configured the MiG-21MF (which appears in 1971) for flares. None of the other MiG-21 models have flares. Eric Howes
