Slartibartfast: It should alo be mentioned that BBC reporter Brian Hanrahan, who made his name covering the Falklands conflict from the deck of HMS Hermes, recently died. See: Nice Harrier shots in that video, BTW. Eric Howes -

JonathanRL: Attached is file that should fix that problem. Drop the .INI in \Objects\GroundObject\Type_12M, overwriting the version that's in there. I'm assuming that folks will discover other minor bugs that were missed in testing. Once we accumulate a few of them, we'll post an updated version. Eric Howes Type_12M.zip -

SF2 Falklands Mod
eburger68 replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Folks: As Dave noted, it is important to that you go through the ReadMe for this one -- esp. the game play and bug notes. Also, although the ReadMe neglects to mention it, this mod is Exp. Pack 2 compatible. Eric Howes -
Paul: Under \Terrains\VietnamSEA & \SouthVietnam (in your Mod Folder) are the directories \Trees_Large and \Trees_Small. Each dir has two .TGA files -- those are the trees. Pick one set (large or small) and drop them in the directory above, overwriting the smaller versions of the same files. Eric Howes
-
Stary: Actually, he doesn't need to do anything with the .TOD files. The trees were "disappeared" in the SF2V Expansion pack by replacing the tree TGAs with clear TGAs. All he needs to do is copy the tree TGAs from one of the sub-folders within the terrains to the main directory, overwriting the clear tree TGAs. Eric Howes

Since the Exp Pack 2

SFP1Ace: That's odd. Whatever the case, there is a bug here -- too many reports of it from users. Eric Howes -
Since the Exp Pack 2

SFP1Ace: I haven't posted anything over at the 3rd Wire forums. Test this on your system and see if you get the same results. If you do, then we should report it. Eric Howes -
Paul: If you installed the post-Dec2009 files (I'm assuming you're not running at the Jun2009b patch level or earlier), then you're not seeing tree because they were taken out. The trees were removed because the Dec2009 and later patch levels have a graphics anomaly that causes unsightly effects when viewing the trees through clouds, which is a big problem on this terrain given all the mountains. The ReadMe has a section on this issue. Eric Howes

Formats for Carriers and Warship with the Mission Editor
eburger68 replied to Dave's topic in Creating Single Missions
Murphy'S: If you've upgraded to Exp. Pack 2, then the Water.BMP for the VietnamSEA terrain is already included in the VietnamSEA.CAT file. All you need to do is add the following to the VietnamSEA.INI and SouthVietnam.INI (right under the NationsFile= line): LocationMap=VietnamSEA_Location.bmp WaterMap=VietnamSEA_Water.bmp Eric Howes -
Since the Exp Pack 2
eburger68 replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
SFP1Ace: Folks have been complaining about non-changing weather in campaigns ever since the Jun2010 patch. I've noticed, strangely enough, that if I customize the weather in Single Missions (Create a Mission), any campaign that I start has that particular weather permanently. Thus, for example, if Single Mission weather is set to Broken, I only get Broken in a campaign that I subsequently start. If the Single Mission weather is set to Random, however, then I get changing weather conditions in the campaign. Unfortunately, changing the weather back to Random in the middle of a campaign locked on one weather type doesn't restore random weather conditions to the campaign. Eric Howes -
Charlie14: It's not a problem with your install or a missing object. That's just the way the game is when handling AI flights off carriers sometimes. I've seen the same thing in several different mods. If you cycle through the various aircraft in a campaign mission, for example, you're bound to see some aircraft apparently without a carrier getting ready to take off. I've never known it to affect game play. Eric Howes

Texture resizing?
eburger68 replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
malibu43: You might check out this free program: http://www.xnview.com/en/xnview.html It allows you to select multiple files within a directory and batch convert/resize them. Very easy and quick to use. Eric Howes -

eburger68 replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Dave: This was briefly discussed over on the ThirdWire forums. I believe the problem has to do with the prop TGAs not being "double-sided." No idea what the solution would be other than to make new prop TGAs. Eric Howes -
Wrench: I've seen the exact behavior that Spectre8750 is describing -- dropped custom menu screens. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen on some occasions, and the result is jarring. One minute you're in a themed XYZ mod; next minute you're suddenly looking at the default SF2 screens. The screens I've seen it happen with are the Main screen and the Campaign screen. You're right that the \Menu folder in the Mod folder SHOULD take precedence over what's in the .CATs, but there are occasions when the \Menu folder gets ignored for some reason -- undoubtedly a bug. View File Falklands Frigates (Working) v.1.1 --------------------------------------------- Falklands Frigates - Working v. 1.1 --------------------------------------------- This package contains re-worked verions of five British frigates that saw action in the Falklands/Malvinas Conflict of 1982. All five models were released previously at CombatAce, but they suffered from non-functioning guns and/or surface-to-air missiles. All versions included in this release include working guns and missiles. Included are: - HMS Brilliant (Type 22 Class Frigate) - HMS Antelope (Type 21 Class Frigate) - HMS Argonaut (Type 12L/Leander Class Frigate) - HMS Plymouth (Type 12M/Rothesay Class Frigate) - HMS Yarmouth (Type 12M/Rothesay Class Frigate) The Brilliant is equipped with Sea Wolf SAMs. The Antelope, Argonaut, Plymouth, and Yarmouth are equipped with Sea Cat SAMs. Note that the Sea Cat SAM version included here for the Type 12M frigates uses tweaked data and is designed to be installed side-by-side with other Sea Cat versions you might already have installed for other ships. * Updated (11/19/2010): verion 1.1 of this package adds the Antelope and Argonaut. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Installation ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The following installation process is designed for Strike Fighters 1 ("Gen 1") installs, but it can be easily adapted to Strike Fighters 2 ("Gen 2") installs. Step 1: Drop the \Objects folder included here in the installation folder for your SFP1 install (whether it be SF Gold, WOE, WOV, or WOI). Step 2: Add the data from ForWeaponData.txt to your WeaponData.INI file and save the changes using the Weapons Editor for SFP1. Step 3: Add the data from ForGunData.txt to your GunData.INI file and save the changes using the Guns Editor for SFP1. That's it. ~~~~~~~ Credits ~~~~~~~ I did not create these models. All I did was hack the DATA.INIs to get the weapons working properly. The original authors of these ships are as follows: HMS Brilliant ...... Banidos Team HMS Antelope ....... Banidos Team HMS Argonaut ....... Banidos Team HMS Plymouth ....... Hinchinbrooke HMS Yarmouth ....... Hinchinbrooke The destroyed model for the Brilliant is from the Banidos Team's Type 21 frigate. See the \_Docs folder for the original readme texts for all five ships. --------------- Eric Howes 19 November 2010 Submitter eburger68 Submitted 11/07/2010 Category Frigates

HMS Brilliant
eburger68 replied to SUICIDAL's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Suicidal: There really are no great changes for SF2, save for porting the Sea Wolf to the SF2 weapons format. Just about everything you need to get the ship to work in SF2 is included in the ZIP I attached to my earlier post. Eric Howes -

Suicidal: I've reworked the DATA.INI a bit, and the Sea Wolf missiles now fire just fine. See the attached ZIP. Btw, I've renamed the ship Type_22, so adjust your DATA.INI name according to whatever you're using. Also, I made some small changes to the SeaWolf -- DATA.INI also included in the .ZIP. Suicidal: Thanks for this ship, which is most excellent. Just one problem: the ship will not fire its complement of Sea Wolf missiles from the forward launcher in Strike Fighters 2. Taking a close look at the launcher while circling the ship in a bait aircraft, I observe that the launcher doesn't appear to be tracking anything -- it's just spinning and spinning on its mount. The Sea Wolf mssiles show up, and they do work -- tested on another ship. They just won't fire from this ship. Any clue as to what the problem might be (the Type 21 that you uploaded around the same time last year works great -- no problems). Thanks, Eric Howes
