F/A-4E MigDaddy
ShrikeHawk replied to ShrikeHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
Yeah, I think the airframe would have to be modified (lengthened, widened) to accept the J57. It wouldn't look the same, but I don't have the ability to modify the 3D model. I think I'll try putting in the F404 (from the F-18, correct?). That would make a lot of sense. I like it! Most interesting. It would be an even more potent light attack aircraft. I would've expected Singapore to go with Korea's T-50 Golden Eagle. I believe that uses the F404. The light attack/fighter aircraft are very interesting as budget fighters with a lot of bang for the buck. -
Wow. That's gorgeous.

Mirage IIICJ vs Mig-21PFM

Sometimes I enjoy just watching a video of a dogfight. I have new game capture software called Action! I thought I'd share a recent combat. I'm pushing myself and learn vertical fighting techniques, and this is one of the efforts. http://youtu.be/2BLa5nuQzE4 -
Mirage IIICJ vs Mig-21PFM

Oh yeah, those are tough ones. I have saved a mission with 4 X Mirage III versus 8 X Mig-17F. Sometimes Mig-19s show up at the end of it. That's a serious gut-check. I keep it to sharpen my dogfighting skills. -

Oh, yes. I've been doing that for years, and I'll be updating my TMF F4U-1D shortly, now that I know it's there. Then again, now that I have a Bunker Hill one, I'll see if they've got an Essex skin. -

Zoinks! I do have the TMF-1D. It defaults to VBF-10, so I didn't see VF-84. I really like the TMF Corsair FM, but there's something off about the cowling in the model. Maybe it's too open? I'm not sure precisely why it seems incorrect. Something with the shape. In any event, yes, this model is by "someone else." The model is perfect in every way. -

I have this F4U-1D that only comes in the tri-color scheme. A little irritating because most -1Ds wore all navy blue livery. I've also wanted a Bunker Hill Corsair or Hellcat, but there's no such skin out there. I just had to make my own... -

Can You Help Me Get Started?
ShrikeHawk replied to Chutedangle's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Start looking here: http://combatace.com/files/category/495-german-origin/ And Here: http://combatace.com/files/category/496-japanese-origin/ Find the axis aircraft you'd like and start installing them. With more specifics about what install you'd like, we can give you more specific suggestions. The Bf-109s by RussoUK and MontyCZ are spectacular. Highly recommended. Same for the Jack by Veltro2K and the Tojo by Geo. Just beautiful models. -
FM Help
ShrikeHawk posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Looking for some advice here. The P-40E FM attached below, flies pretty much like I want it, but at high speed (240kts+) the pitch control stiffens a lot. I've looked this thing over time and time again and I cannot see why it's happening. I want to know why for several reasons: 1) My A6M2 FM doesn't do this, and it should. A6Ms could not follow American fighters in high-speed turns. The controls stiffened up so much. I'd like to duplicate this effect in the A6M2. 2) I don't want to eliminate this effect from the FM, but I'd like to control it and push the effect out to a higher speed. I can model compression with this. Any FM experts, please have a look at the attached FM and tell me what's doing this. Any help appreciated. P-40E1-CU_DATA.zip -
FM Help
ShrikeHawk replied to ShrikeHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Thanks gentlemen. I really appreciate the replies. Thanks Baff. But this is a constant value. My issue changes depending on speed. At lower speeds, this FM responds exactly as I want it to. This P-40E isn't super-fast in angles turning, but in my estimation that reflects the reality. The P-40E was a steady gun platform. A slightly lower value in MaxControlSpeed makes this plane respond calmly and predictably to the stick, making it easy to establish a firing solution. Thus, a steady gun platform. I appreciate you offering a solution though. Thanks Fubar. Turns out, this was it. I commented out this section from the elevator as a test and now the plane turns uniformly at all speeds. Now I can apply this to the A6Ms and get a realistic AI behavior. Problem solved. Thank you. -
At the risk of sounding partisan, I'd say SF2. You can go to the A-Team's site and get an all-inclusive ww2 SF2 Pacific install. No fiddling required. You get great models and FMs and the AI behavior is doesn't defy physics. If you don't mind piecing everything together, you can build a complete ww2 Europe install right here, and a very good one at that. I still don't have enough computer power to run all graphic options at full bore.
