  1. Air power in 'Nam

After the January '73 accords. Nixon and Kissenger had reportedly threatened to treat the Israelis to a "US arms shopping holiday" if the Soviets armed the NVA with the SA-3 (during the war).

if the war had lasted into 1978 or so, the F-14A would have probably not made many forays over the beach, as it would have been used for the role it was designed for, as a fleet defender. The F-15A would have been used as an escort, and the F-4G would have taken over the WW role from the F-105G. I strongly doubt that the A-10 would have been used there. What would have made a real difference, would have been the AIM-9L. Had an all-aspect IRM been available to US forces by '76-'77 (in RL, the 9L was undergoing testing as early as 1978), in all likelihood, the VPAF would have been all but eliminated had they continued to sortie. Keep in mind, that unlike most other Soviet clients, North Vietnam wasn't swimming in oil money, so I doubt they would have fielded the MiG-23 in any numbers. (The MiG-23s that were based out of Cam Rahn Bay during the 1980s were Soviet-owned birds that were reportedly "leased" to the VPAF.) The big question in that scenario, would have been when (not if), the NVA would have recieved the SA-3, the SA-6, and the SA-8.
  4. I really like how some people jump to conclusions that have no factual basis The project is still alive. Krizis is currently busy with other "things", he'll get back to this project and finish it when he's good and ready to do so.

  6. Douche Bag of the Week?....

One of my longer assignments, was as a network administrator for a large insurance company. I can attest to the fact that they try to minimize their losses whenever, and wherever possible. In fact, a few of the adjusters and agents that I got to know seemed to get quite a charge out of denying claims, almost as if it were a game to them. Get a lawyer and sue them for breach of contract, and legal fees.

  8. Stratos, sure....as Blackbird stated, all I did was to cut it out of the iamge that you had posted.
  9. Whatever happened to the concept of DIY (Do it Yourself)?
  10. As the latest patch in SF2 allows one to "save" a system-generated mission. I was going to suggest going that route, selecting an F-84F as your wingman's ride in the loadout and then saving it, and then opening the mission file to see what parameters were applied, but....... Unfortunately, it appears that while one can save missions, loadouts will not carry over.
  11. It's in the knowledge base: http://forum.combatace.com/topic/44027-extracting-files-from-sf2-series-cat-files-by-migbuster/
  12. In each weapons data.ini (assuming you're using SF2 and its varients), add this line: SpecificStationCode=
  13. CLUB-K

Back during the early days of sub-launched IRBMs and ICBMs, Congress was waffling on the funding for the USN's Polaris missile sub-fleet. The USN wanted a fleet of (IIRC), something on the order of 20 units, and Congress wanted less than half that figure. Eventually, a compromise was reached...and 13 boats were built. A USN officer who was lobbying for the project back in 1959, allegedly shared his tale of woe with a counterpart who was in the Royal Navy. His counterpart suggested that the USN should instead construct a large (30-40 unit) fleet of inexpensive "covert" freighters, equip them with Polaris silos, and send them everywhere....
  14. Yes. Using the ENB series instead of using the default advanced shaders is taking a step backwards in efects quality. The issue that you're experiencing with the widesky mod is most likely due to that version not being up to date, and therefore not taking advantage of DX10 material shaders.
  15. You need to ensure that the rack is in the weapons folder, and you also need declare the rack in the aircraft's loadout.ini file.
  16. Those parameters have been available since the October 08 patch for the original Third Wire series (Column5 released am improved FM for the U2, which incorporated those parameters shortly afterwords). They are, of course, also incorporated into the second generation of TW sims. The AI currently uses a simplified FM that ignores any and all MAX G parameters stated in a flight model. For example, I've seen TW default MiG-23s repeatedly sustain 10+ Gs.
  17. Well, all avionics in general, the ability to model radar and guidance frequencies on both airborne and ground based units, and an improved level of flight dynamics modeling (just to name a few of the refinements). GregoryP has stated that SF2 exceeds most existing simulations in this last respect.
  18. Didn't Caesar suggest exactly that?
  19. It actually belongs in the objects folder. However, the copy you were using was either incompatible with your install or with your hardware. Modded aircraftobject.ini files are really no longer necessary.
  20. Engine sounds, afterburner sounds, flap sounds, air brake sounds, landing sounds, rwr sounds, etc, etc, etc....do not get added to the soundlist. They are simply dropped into the sounds folder, and then "added" to the pertinent aircraft data file. I'll bet that you're.... A) placing the sound files in the wrong folder B) attempting to use stereo soundfiles or C) both A & B. Nothing to be ashamed of, all three are common issues with newcomers to this series.

  22. That's because you're using the default prop loop sound. Change the wav name to something like "R3350.wav", place it into the sound folder, and then edit the engine sound callout in the aircraft's data.ini file to match the sound file's.
  23. All engine and cockpit sounds are frequency controlled. What that means (in a nutshell), is that engine sounds are frequency linked to engine RPM, and cockpit (wind-sound) sounds are frequency linked to airspeed. As a result of this, engine sounds for prop-jobs need to be recorded with the engine at or near idle speed in order to work properly. One can always use windows sound recorder (NA on Vista or Win 7), or a freeware app such as Audacity to adjust the frequency and apparent sound "speed" to one's preference.
