  1. IRST

I believe that's what he was looking for, Typhoid....
  2. IRST

Unfortunately, no. Any IRM will "deploy", irregardless of whether or not it has zero thrust, duration, or launch-G. Even if it means that it simply free-falls when fired. In all probabilty, a real-life IRST sensitive enough to "see" the head-on signature of a fighter-sized target at 50 km, would be way too big to mount on a fighter. Think of an IRST's optics as the objective lens or primary mirror on an astronomical telescope. Its sensitivity would be dependent on its light-gathering power, which in turn, is determined by the size of the optics (objective lens).
  3. 600 KIAS at 20,000 feet is about Mach 1.4. Most supersonic aircraft do not achieve their potential Vmax until they're well above 30-35,000 feet.
  4. Check the SF2 knowledge base. There's a thread on that very subject.
  5. I have all of the SF2 series installed (SF2,2V,2E,2I), so if there was a conflict between any of the titles (especially SF2I), and Mago's pits, I'd have certainly noticed. Recheck your cockpit installs.
  6. Works fine for me, other than an issue with the 'Estrella.tga" (gunsight pipper or "star"). Go back and double check your install.
  7. lod

Nope. Once improperly opened, .lod files are toast. The only reason (or way) to modify a .lod file, is by using a hex-editor. And only then, to change .bmp or .tga texture-file associations. LOD files are generated by 3DS Max, using a special ThirdWire plugin. One created, they cannot be changed, other than the aforementioned texture file associations.
  8. It's not difficult to port them over to SF2E....mostly a matter of .ini editing. But in all fairness, perhaps a PM to JSF_Aggie asking him to release an SF2E version might be in order.
  9. He did....about three years ago. Dig through the downloads section, and you'll find it.
  10. The Suez addon will more than likely be exactly that, and addon, similar to the addon(s) for FE, and not a full sim, in of itself.
  11. Since TK has announced that SF2I was probably the last TW sim on the existing SF engine, what makes you so sure that those items will not be incorporated (at least in part) in the next series?
  12. He's not either not using the oiler_data.ini (which has the proper min/max points and wake & engine-smoke emitter positions), or, he reset the extants when he exported the model.
  13. This is Diego's SAM site model. It's waiting for Swambast's placement tool, it makes no sense to release it beforehand, as all the units must be placed and oriented by hand, on a suitably flat section of a given terrain.
  14. Like weapons (or any other "objects", for that matter), SF2 guns need to have individual folders which contain both Gun.ini and Gun_data.ini files. The folder needs to be named exactly the same as the .ini file. For example, lets say that we wish to add a 30MM_GSH30-2. We first create a subfolder within the Guns folder, and name it 30MM_GSH30-2. Next we need to create two .ini files, 30MM_GSH30-2.ini and 30MM_GSH30-2_Data.ini. The latter spells out the necessary ballistic, ROF, and effects parameters. The 30MM_GSH30-2.ini would contain the following data: [GunData] ObjectFullName=30MM GSH-30-2 cannon ObjectDataFile=30MM_GSH30-2_Data.ini The 30MM_GSH30-2_Data.ini would contain: [GunData001] TypeName=30MM_GSH30-2 FullName=30mm GSH30-2 Cannon Caliber=30.000000 ROF=2460.000000 MuzzleVel=940.000000 AmmoWt=0.247000 WarheadWt=0.024700 Reliability=95.000000 Accuracy=74.000000 AddLight=TRUE MaxLightRange=1200.000000 FireColor=0.400000,0.320000,0.240000 GunFireEffect=30mmFireEffect GunFireSound=GSHcannon EffectClassName=30mmEffects EffectTime=0.100000 TracerTexture=Tracer.tga TracerSize=0.030000 TracerDistFactor=0.002000 TracerLength=0.036000 MaxVisibleDist=4000.000000 MaxStreakVisibleDist=1000.000000 TimeFuzed=FALSE
  15. A tileset is, as the name implies, nothing more than replacement tiles (bitmap and .tga files) for an existing (and usually TW default) terrain. Brain32's VietnamSEA tiles for WoV/SF2, and his GermanyCE tiles for WoE/SF2E, are just two examples. A full terrain, would be something like Madagascar, ODS's Kuwait/Iraq, Major Lee's Bearing Straits, (etc.). It would include all the necessary .ini, .tod, bitmap, .lod, and .tga files to serve as a standalone terrain that would work in any of TW's titles.
  16. Just tried it, it works fine. I transferred a custom campaign from an old WoE install into SF2, and other than having to add the odd aircraft or two, everything worked as it did before. Did you add the campaign folders and files to your mod folder? If so, and it still isn't working, then double check everything.
  17. Yep, ThirdWire has a massive team of devs working with an unlimited budget.... As Harold says, nothing was really "broken". Until recently, the 2nd generation titles eeked by on a mish-mash of DX9 and DX10 shaders. The latter were essentially place holders, until "activated" by the last two patches. I run the series on an XP system, and it runs buttery smooth under DX9. Dave runs the series on a Win 7 system, has applied my settings, and guess what? It also runs buttery smooth, under DX10.
  18. Ships can also be added as fixed terrain objects, either moored offshore or berthed at piers. This applies to all ship classes.
  19. First Eagles is faster because of its limited terrain distance, and simpler object models. Set the terrain distance in any of the other titles to "Near" or "Normal", and you will see a bump in frame rates. BTW, horizon distance is limited by CPU speed. The other issue is terrain object and ground object complexity/detail level. 3rd party models (as used in NF4+) tend to have higher poly counts, and use larger, more detailed textures. A minimum of 30 FPS is actually good. Flight sims are not first person shooters. They remain playable right down into the high teens. Keep in mind that the old Graphsim Hornet series was limited to 20 FPS.
  20. While not strictly aviation-oriented, I recommend "The Raft", by Robert Trumbull. It's based on a true story : http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/getdoc/b359a789-6374-4ab1-8571-20394b70cfc0/Von-Tempsky-Wall--Page-1-(1).aspx Imagine finding yourself on a 8 x 4 foot raft, in the middle of the South Pacific, with no food nor water, and surviving for 34 days with little more than a knife, a .45 pistol, a pair of pliers, and the clothes on your back!
  21. Navy SEALS Charged for Asault?

Since the link is not working, here's the story, from Fox News: Navy SEALs have secretly captured one of the most wanted terrorists in Iraq — the alleged mastermind of the murder and mutilation of four Blackwater USA security guards in Fallujah in 2004. And three of the SEALs who captured him are now facing criminal charges, sources told FoxNews.com. The three, all members of the Navy's elite commando unit, have refused non-judicial punishment — called a captain's mast — and have requested a trial by court-martial. Ahmed Hashim Abed, whom the military code-named "Objective Amber," told investigators he was punched by his captors — and he had the bloody lip to prove it. Now, instead of being lauded for bringing to justice a high-value target, three of the SEAL commandos, all enlisted, face assault charges and have retained lawyers. Matthew McCabe, a Special Operations Petty Officer Second Class (SO-2), is facing three charges: dereliction of performance of duty for willfully failing to safeguard a detainee, making a false official statement, and assault. Petty Officer Jonathan Keefe, SO-2, is facing charges of dereliction of performance of duty and making a false official statement. Petty Officer Julio Huertas, SO-1, faces those same charges and an additional charge of impediment of an investigation. Neal Puckett, an attorney representing McCabe, told Fox News the SEALs are being charged for allegedly giving the detainee a “punch in the gut.” “I don’t know how they’re going to bring this detainee to the United States and give us our constitutional right to confrontation in the courtroom,” Puckett said. “But again, we have terrorists getting their constitutional rights in New York City, but I suspect that they’re going to deny these SEALs their right to confrontation in a military courtroom in Virginia.” The three SEALs will be arraigned separately on Dec. 7. Another three SEALs — two officers and an enlisted sailor — have been identified by investigators as witnesses but have not been charged. FoxNews.com obtained the official handwritten statement from one of the three witnesses given on Sept. 3, hours after Abed was captured and still being held at the SEAL base at Camp Baharia. He was later taken to a cell in the U.S.-operated Green Zone in Baghdad. The SEAL told investigators he had showered after the mission, gone to the kitchen and then decided to look in on the detainee. "I gave the detainee a glance over and then left," the SEAL wrote. "I did not notice anything wrong with the detainee and he appeared in good health." Lt. Col. Holly Silkman, spokeswoman for the special operations component of U.S. Central Command, confirmed Tuesday to FoxNews.com that three SEALs have been charged in connection with the capture of a detainee. She said their court martial is scheduled for January. United States Central Command declined to discuss the detainee, but a legal source told FoxNews.com that the detainee was turned over to Iraqi authorities, to whom he made the abuse complaints. He was then returned to American custody. The SEAL leader reported the charge up the chain of command, and an investigation ensued. The source said intelligence briefings provided to the SEALs stated that "Objective Amber" planned the 2004 Fallujah ambush, and "they had been tracking this guy for some time." The Fallujah atrocity came to symbolize the brutality of the enemy in Iraq and the degree to which a homegrown insurgency was extending its grip over Iraq. The four Blackwater agents were transporting supplies for a catering company when they were ambushed and killed by gunfire and grenades. Insurgents burned the bodies and dragged them through the city. They hanged two of the bodies on a bridge over the Euphrates River for the world press to photograph. Intelligence sources identified Abed as the ringleader, but he had evaded capture until September. The military is sensitive to charges of detainee abuse highlighted in the Abu Ghraib prison scandal. The Navy charged four SEALs with abuse in 2004 in connection with detainee treatment.
  22. We were on the last days of a cruise, when we received word that a Russkie carrier, the Kiev was operating nearby. For over twenty years, the Russkies had been staging flybys of our carriers, now it was our turn. Outbound from the Indy....recieved a vector from the hummer...seems that the Russkies weren't cooperating, and operating under ECOM. We let down below the overcast at the coords given to us by the hummer, and lo and behold, there she was, the Kiev, and one of her escorts... She may have appeared a bit unconventional by western standards, but she still had nice, solid lines...and was bristling with guns and missile launchers... It was right about about then that we noticed that weren't not alone.... Seems that they'd sent up a pair of Yak-38 Forgers to meet us... We made one more orbit over the fleet, took the obligatory pictures, and then bid our "escorts" adieu..
