  1. Yes you do. I've already tried getting away with not doing so on several older terrainsets, that I ported over to SF2, and the shaders were a no-show, every time. You need to use the new naming convention.
  2. Perhaps we can send it out to the .TOD club for terrains?
  3. BluRay

Update: Picked up U-571 on BluRay (it was on sale for $14.95 at Best Buy), and everything works as advertised. Unfortunately, it seems that to comply with HDCP standards, screen captures are disabled while playing a BluRay disk, even the native Windows "prt scrn" function is blocked
  4. Well, the VPAF initially denied that 3020 had been shot down, until years later, when former VPAF pilots admited that 3020 had gone missing on the very day that Cunningham claims to have shot it down. Whoever flew it on the tenth of May, 1972, did so with great skill and tenacity.
  5. Not really. The 17 was capable of achieving it's max G-loading well above Mach .7-.75. Simulating wingwarp can be achived by other means, and control lockup has been available in the series since at least SP (though it's "all or nothing".).
  6. I've just retired my almost 10-year old X-36 USB (IIRC, I picked it up just before Christmas of 1999).
  7. I made one for the A, as well. The A uses essentially the same powerplant as the MiG-15, therefore it has no Forsage (afterbuner).
  8. guyran, check your PMs, I have an AI-only model for you that will impose realistic limits on the model I've spent a few hours testing it, and found that, if you fly by the book, you can beat it...though it's still tough on your wingmen.
  9. It's all math, with a few 'SWAG' (Scientific Wild-assed Guess) figures thrown in, in areas were published data is unavailable. There are a few tools available for the task (AIDE and AeroConvert). AIDE helps validate your model's performance, and AeroConvert helps calculate a few basic parameters. You still need to supply accurate data, and that means hours or days of research.
  10. BluRay

Actually, 32-bit allows access to 3.5 GB. I've already performed a few memory utilization tests, to prove this to myself. The remaining .5 GB are reserved for hardware addresses. Regarding posting a non-upconverted image; I would, if I actually had a BluRay disc...lol This is another upconverted SD screenie from BSG Razor, in my set's native res: BTW, that's with CUDA enabled
  11. Great Dave. Just to be a *rick, I'll reply in-kind (with a hint). Next time you're in a hospital, look at where the bedpans are manufactured

T-80BV Main Battle Tank: Original Google Sketchup Model by SWS Ported to SF2 format by BPAo and Fubar512 INI files by Fubar512 Textures by 331Killerbee Beta testers: USAFMTL, Crusader, Private (please don't feel left out if I've forgotten you). to quote from SWS's write up: "The T-80 is a main battle tank (MBT) designed and manufactured in the former Soviet Union. A development of the T-64, it entered service in 1976 and was the first production tank to be equipped with a gas turbine engine for main propulsion (the Stridsvagn 103 only used a supplementary gas turbine by 1971). The T-80U was last produced in a factory in Omsk, Russia, while the T-80UD and further-developed T-84 continue to be produced in Ukraine. The T-80 and its variants are in service in Belarus, Cyprus, Kazakhstan,Pakistan, Russia, South Korea, and Ukraine. The chief designer of the T-80 was the Russian engineer Nikolay Popov" Installation: Simply extract the contents of the zip archive into your SF2 Mod folder. Please back up your default TankGun.wav and TankTrack.wav, as they will otherwise be overwritten. If you wish to use the TankTurbine.wav, you will need to create an entry for it in your soundlist.ini
  14. Derk, if you can find a copy of the book, "Scream of Eagles" ( http://www.amazon.com/Scream-Eagles-Dramat...r/dp/0743497244 ), I suggest that you read it. It devotes literally an entire chapter to the MiG-17F, specifically, to one flown by Top Gun instructors (and yes, they used it to surprise a few students, too). Their take on the subject makes for some rather interesting reading...
  15. I recently ran a little experiment using the resource utilization logging tool built into Riva Tuner. It was an eye opening experience..... The is admittedly a worst-case scenario for SF2E. Every video option maxed-out (except horizon distance, that was set to "normal"), CAP off the runway with JSF_Aggie's textures, a whole flight of the Mirage Factory's MiG-29As, Stary's 4-Season GermanyCE terrain, on high detail, Wide-sky with broken clouds at dusk, etc. These are the results.... With a 512 MB 9600GT, SF2E had to "borrow" an additional 260 MB of RAM to make up for a deficit.....notice that the processor utilization was around 60% during game-play (the maxed out portion occurred during the loading process) Now, compare that to a title that many consider a resource hog, LOMAC-FC... (Default A-10 mission) Holy Crap! Other than a bit more CPU-utilization, LOMAC was amazingly easier on the graphics sub-system.
  16. Actually, the GTX260/275/280/etc is turning to be a bust in the flight sim world. The GTS250 actually delivers higher FPS in Miscrost FSX than even the GTX280.
  17. If anyone's curious as to how to perform this experiment, go here: http://forums.legitreviews.com/about8247.html
  18. wait, you want it to work as both a stab and an automatic device? That will work only if the model has it as two animations, sort of like the A-10s ailerons/split airbarkes, or the Su-27's Flaperons.

  20. Right here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814500043 Of course, I'd rather see you get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130469
  21. The SF series (1 & 2), can be waaaay more taxing than LOMAC. And I believe the reason behind this is due to model and terrain complexity, coupled with rendering distances. You see, LOMAC-FC achieves what it does, with less. It's native models are simpler, and the actual draw distances are lower (thanks in part to the creative use of fog). Many of the SF models are more complex, SF's textures tend to be larger (which is especially the case with third party add ons), and SF's normal and far horizon draw distance are well known frame rate killers. Conclusion? If you want to run with the big dogs, and be able to play SF with everything maxed out, and loaded with third-party models and textures, then you'll need a video adapter with at least 896 MB of VRAM. Not that that's an expensive a proposition..... Here in the 'States, one can still pick up a GeForce 9600GT armed with 1024 MB of VRAM for under $100 US. Even though it's considered nothing more than last year's mid-range card, it should still easily run either SF1 or SF2, even with all the eye candy and third party add ons.
  22. Gee, I was hoping that you'd tell me....
  23. I guess..... BTW, look below....that's what SF2E does to a graphics adapter with 512 MB of dedicated video memory.....nevermind one with 128 MB of shared memory.
  24. Despite words to the contrary, "Mobile_SAM" does not work, even in SF2E with the latest patch. Set it to "Mobile_AAA" and have some fun.
