Close to real missile fire effect
Fubar512 replied to DEVIL11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
That makes no sense, as the Aim-12-'s effect is waaaaaaaaay different than the AIm-7s, which in of itself is different than the Aim-54's effect. -

Close to real missile fire effect
Fubar512 replied to DEVIL11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Specifically for what missile? For an early Aim-9? For a late Aim-9? For an Aim-7? For an Aim-120? For an Aim-54? There are differences between all of those in real life, oftentimes, vast differences. -

RWR Detection Of AHM
Fubar512 replied to Rexor's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Yes. The missileobject.dll in SF2NA, (as well as in all previous iterations of Strike Fighters) does not contain provisions for working radar emitters. It only "simulates" them as a guidance type. -
The Objects/Aircraft folder that you should be placing those aircraft in is located in either your My Documents/Thirdwire/FitrstEagles2, or under Users/Your Name/Saved Games/ThirdWire/FirstEagles2, depending on your OS. What flavor of windows are you running? XP? Vista, 7, or 8? This will help us determine where you should look for your "mods" folder. This thread should be of help: http://combatace.com/topic/62302-what-is-the-mod-folder/

File Name: RWR Symbology File Submitter: Fubar512 File Submitted: 15 Jun 2008 File Updated: 17 Jun 2008 File Category: Jet Cockpits RWR Symbology and Sounds for Third Wire Sims by: Fubar512 crash test dummies: Jarhead1 and USAFMTL "Dave" NOTE, these are not totally representitive of the RWR symbology that one might find in real combat aircraft. They are meant to make it somewhat easier to identify threat type (ground or airborne), and threat level (search, track, lock), for ease of game play. The symbols are set up as follows: S = ground based search radar Diamond with "T"=ground based radar in track mode Diamond with 'L"=ground based radar in acquisition mode Inverted 'V" with "S" below it=Airborne search radar Inverted 'V" with "T" below it=Airborne radar in track mode Inverted "V" with "L" below it=Airborne radar in acquisition mode The colored icons further help identify threat modes, as follows Green =Search Mode Yellow =Track Mode Red = Acquisition mode Instructions: Copy the RWR sub-folder of your choice (Green or Colored) and its contents into the aircraft's cockpit folder. The aircraft must have an RWR display to begin with, of course! Next, you must edit the following entries in that aircraft's avionics.ini to denote the path to the RWR symbol. (Please note that In the case of TW default aircraft, you will have to extract the avionics.ini from the objectdata.cat file, and place it in the aircraft's folder in order to edit it. You must download and use the SFP1E extraction utilty in order to do so.) [RWR] Type=3_RING AirSearchTexture=Cockpit/RWR/AirSearch.tga<---Note path statement AirTrackTexture=Cockpit/RWR/AirTrack.tga<---Note path statement AirLockTexture=Cockpit/RWR/AirLock.tga<---Note path statement GroundSearchTexture=Cockpit/RWR/SurfaceSearch.tga<---Note path statement GroundTrackTexture=Cockpit/RWR/SurfaceTrack.tga<---Note path statement GroundLockTexture=Cockpit/RWR/SurfaceLock.tga<---Note path statement SearchPosition=0.90 TrackPosition=0.55 LockPosition=0.15 SearchSize=0.125<---adjust size to fit RWR display TrackSize=0.125<---adjust size to fit RWR display LockSize=0.125<---adjust size to fit RWR display SearchFlash=FALSE TrackFlash=TRUE TrackFlashRate=0.5 LockFlash=TRUE LockFlashRate=0.1 TrackSound=RWRTrack2.wav<----Sounds (optional) LockSound=LaunchWarn.wav<----Sounds (optional) Note the path statement in the Texture statement. This must be followed or the model will default to using the standard texures (icons). The Size statement is a variable that must be set by the user. I find that a size value of 0.125 is perfect for the F-15 series, and a size of 0.20 works well with the F-14, F-16, and F-18's display. You may need to experiment. Last, but not least, RWR sounds. I've included two extremely annoying ones for your enjoyment. You can use whatever sounds you want, by simply placing said sounds in the "Sounds" folder, and setting the statement as noted above. Note that sounds must always be monoaural .wav format. MP3 files, and stereo .wavs will not work in any TW sim. I've included a modified avionics.ini for the default Thirwire F-15A, as found in WoE and WoI, to help you understand what's involved, and to allow those of you who already have those sims to get up and running right away. USING THIS MOD UNDER "EASY AVIONICS" by: WarlordATF Now, When i installed it, It didn't work. I re-checked everything,re-read the readme and everything was done exactly right. But, I use Easy Avionics! Its simple to fix and i just wanted to provide instructions on how to make it work with Easy mode. All you have to do is... Copy the new TGAs, not the RWR folder, Just the new TGAs to your Flight folder and extract the EASYAVIONICSDATA.INI from the Flightdata.cat and edit it like this... [RWR] Type=3_RING AirSearchTexture=AirSearch.tga AirTrackTexture=AirTrack.tga AirLockTexture=AirLock.tga GroundSearchTexture=SurfaceSearch.tga GroundTrackTexture=SurfaceTrack.tga GroundLockTexture=SurfaceLock.tga SearchPosition=0.90 TrackPosition=0.55 LockPosition=0.15 SearchSize=0.15<---Set Size to your preference TrackSize=0.15<---Set Size to your preference LockSize=0.15<---Set Size to your preference SearchFlash=FALSE TrackFlash=TRUE TrackFlashRate=0.2 LockFlash=TRUE LockFlashRate=0.1 TrackSound=RWRTrackSound.wav LockSound=RWRLockSound.wav And your done, this will give you a fully functional RWR and All RWRs will use the new symbols! Who built the cruiser Belgrano?
Fubar512 replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
NY Shipbuilding, in Camden, NJ........ Sorry, couldn't resist. -
Unfortunately, it has canned missions, and its so-called campaign mode is really nothing more than additional canned missions. It's more of a game than a sim, albeit one with gorgeous graphics.

I recently picked this title up for just under $10 US from GamersGate. I've read all the reviews, and I'm aware of the controversial DRM and the YuPlay issues. Well, the version at GamersGate is patched up to the most recent (and sadly, final) release, and the DRM can now be switched off, by selecting "No Startup Check" under advanced options. And I've also figured out how to defeat YuPlay. As the game is now only single player, YuPlay has been mostly rendered superfluous, but it still rears it's head on occasion, and loads a process every time one starts the game. Even after one exits the game, that process (YuPlay32.exe) stays in memory until one manually stops it. Using a simple hack, I was able to replace the YuPlay executable files with similarly named text files, and eliminated this behavior. This game runs smooth as butter on my Pentium G 3258/Geforce GTX750ti combo. I'm running it in full "simulation" mode, which I find to be about on par with "normal" mode in the Strike Fighters series. This title is supposedly built upon the IL2 engine, albeit with somewhat simplified flight models, which seem to share global stall characteristics. Prop torque, however, is nicely modeled, though it is perhaps a tad heavy handed in the case of the various Spitfires, Bf-109s, and P-51D. Missions and campaigns are canned, that is they are not random nor dynamic. They also have set time limits. Again, this is a game as opposed to a sim, albeit one with scaleable flight dynamics, excellent effects, and beautifully-detailed and bump-mapped models. Anyway, Judge for yourselves, here's a link to the free demo: http://www.gamershell.com/download_54548.shtml Here's the link to the full version at GamersGate: http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-WOP/wings-of-prey Now for some screen shots: PS: I've gotten Dave, (yes, old cantankerous, hard-core Dave) hooked on this game!

Planes going through carrier deck of sf1 carriers
Fubar512 replied to DEVIL11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
In order to work properly in an updated SF2 install, an aircraft carrier model (or any class of ship that one intends to land on, for that matter) requires a deck LOD. Sometimes, one can get away by simply copying the model's main LOD file, renaming it Deck.LOD, and then adding the appropriate statements to the model's data.ini -

How do I adjust a Flight Model?
Fubar512 replied to JonathanRL's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
In order to do so, and achieve even a modicum of realism, is a time-consuming process. For example, the F-86 FMs took over a hundred hours. Wrench's suggestion is an easy, quick fix. Even then, you will still spend considerable time debugging it. Good luck. -
A Star Trek TV reboot is coming, and fans could not be happier. Rumors are running, claiming that two companies have pitched Star Trek series ideas to television networks for the fall of 2015 or early 2016. While nothing has been confirmed or denied, it appears that CBS might be the network airing the Star Trek reboot. A Star Trek TV reboot is set for this fall or late winter, and it might be on CBS, according to sources. The original Star Trek series also called The Original Series debuted in 1966 and ran for three seasons on NBC before being cancelled in 1969. It starred William Shatner in the role of Captain Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock and DeForest Kelley as Leonard McCoy. It appears that X-Men producer, Bryan Singer has teamed up with Rob Burnett, the executive producer of Late Show with David Letterman and the president and CEO of Worldwide Pants, along with writersChristopher McQuarrie and Geoffrey Thorne for a Star Trek TV reboot currently entitled Star Trek: Federation. The new Star Trek: Federation is set in a new era beyond the Deep Space Nine and Voyager crews. The TV spin-off has been inspired by the popular fan-made Star Trek: Axanar as guideline for the project. Burnett has been actively tweeting about the project: Source: http://www.thespreadit.com/star-trek-tv-reboot-is-being-considered-52094/

My apologies for being AWOL
Fubar512 replied to Centurion-1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Centurion, There is never a need to apologize for taking time off to give yourself a break, and especially for taking however long one must take to deal with real life issues. And those that whine and complain about a modder taking "too much time" to release whatever they may be working on, can go to straight to hell as far as I'm concerned. -

Frame rate tweak for Nvidia users

Why not use Nvidia Shadowplay instead? I find it less resource-intensive than FRAPs, with at least the same (or even better) image quality. -
AI & ECM Pods
Fubar512 replied to PFunk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
In 3 out of 5 engagements, the opposing aircraft (MarcFighters Su-33) successfully jammed my radar at close range with its add-on Sorbtisya pods, at default power settings. When I ramped them up to "100" it even jammed me at medium range, throwing off my LCOS gun sight. So the answer is yes, the AI does use add-on jamming pods. -
