  3. Very imaginative, but since you cannot use ground radar for targeting, it don't believe that it would do very much to add to the immersion. BTW, they would not appear to be "larger" on the display, they would simply be a brighter point source.
  4. File Name: Enhanced Cloud Top Layer File Submitter: Fubar512 File Submitted: 26 Mar 2008 File Category: Environmental Mods File Version: 1.00 Website: No Information The default overcast and inclement cloud top bitmaps in any of the Thirdwire series (SF, WoV,WoE, FE, and now WoI), always seem to lack "depth". So, this is my attempt at rectifying that issue. Installation is quite easy. Simply extract the four bmp files contained in this zip archieve (CloudLayerTop2-CloudLayerTop5.bmp), into your sim's "Flight" folder. And that's it! To test, simply fly above the cloud deck under either overcast or inclement weather conditions. To remove, just delete them and the game will revert to using it's original (and protected) cloudlayertop bitmaps. Cheers, Fubar512 and Brain32 Click here to download this file

Back in late January of 1987, I was making preparations for a two week vacation down in the Florida Keys. The Saturday before the trip, I woke up early (as I was working a night shift at the time, I considered "early" to be anytime prior to 11 AM), and made my way to the bank to deposit my check, and pay off all my utility bills for the upcoming month. When I got to the bank, I reached into my jacket pocket, and my wallet was gone! $300 in cash, $1,000 in paychecks, all my credit cards, driver's license, social security card, my company ID card, everything. It was a freaking disaster! Needless to say, I was quite upset. Two days later, I received a call from a NY-NJ Port Authority Police officer. It seems that a cousin of his had found my wallet laying on the sidewalk (this was in Newark, NJ of all places), and turned it over to him. When I finally met up with said officer, I was pleasantly surprised to find everything intact! I tried to give him a reward on his cousin's behalf, but he would not accept it, claiming that his cousin was just that way.
  6. Have you checked the knowledge base lately? As in the last 24 hours?

  8. What is average age of the typical gamer? Find that out, and you'll be that much closer to answering your own question The learning curve, the action, and planning (and executing) your moves in 3-dimensions....

  10. Here's a simple to install mod, courtesy of Brain32 and myself. It's a set of bitmaps that replace the default ThirdWire cloud top bmps. I will upload them shortly.
  11. Uploaded and available for download. Enjoy!

  14. It's not available in system-generated missions. You'll have to either put one together yourself, or fly someone else's scripted mission, like the one in the video below. http://forum.combatace.com/uploads/1190950...43_42138740.wmv
  15. Well, I've just added this to the knowledge base: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=26955
  16. A question that often arises, is: "Why is the airspeed of the (you fill in the blank) so low in the game? My research shows that it should achieve 1,289 MPH at 35,000 feet, and yet, the model in Strike Fighters only achieves 589 knots." Well, first off, there are several factors at play here. The mini-HUD on the lower left side of your screen displays indicated air speed (IAS), as opposed to true air speed (TAS). IAS will usually be lower, and will read progressively lower as you gain altitude, while in reality, your true airspeed maybe as much as 2X-3X higher! The reason (which I'll simplify here) is that IAS is read off a mechanical gage, that uses ram-air pressure pushing against a diaphragm located at the back of a pitot tube. The higher you fly, the thinner the air is, consequently, there are fewer air molecules per unit of measure of volume (cubic foot, cubic meter, etc.) available to "push" against the aforementioned diaphragm, resulting in a lower indicated airspeed. The conversion from knots to MPH is far simpler, as it remains constant: 1 knot equals 1.15 MPH. The site below explains this in more detail, and has a neat calculator to help you determine your true airspeed. http://www.csgnetwork.com/tasinfocalc.html
  17. By the way, I've somehow gotten the impression that you're a fan of the "Zipper" as well. Let me show you a few enhancements that are available here at CA (environment & cockpit).

  20. It simply adds shadows, which are known to be a bit of a frame-rate killer in this series. There are a few workarounds, such as setting them to "aircraft only", and limiting the distance at which they're cast to just under a hundred meters (arrrrgh...more stuff to add to the KB) As you've discovered, the latest patches place greater demands on your graphics adapter, due to the inclusion of volumetric clouds, and shaders for water and ground effects. You can turn these off in the game's options menu. It did so in my case, and yes, it is always a good idea to uninstall an older gfx driver before updating to a newer one. No! as I've mentioned before, you can always tune the graphics options to your preference, and the latest patches will not run without DX9.0c. LOL...shadows, of course...
  21. I'm currently using the Omega drivers, version 3.8.442, and they do not cause the "shadow" anomalies that you're experiencing. I also set my anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering manually (as opposed to application controlled). Here are my settings in the ATI control panel:

  23. Hmmmm...I believe that Wrench posted the loadout fix on the KB. Regarding the second one, you're referring to the MiG-21, right? That's a matter of moving the pilot forward in the cockpit section of the MiG-21's data.ini, IIRC, about .3 meters. From: Catalonia near the river that decided the future of Rome? I Thought the Douro was in southern Galicia... LOL

Happy Brthday Dave..... You're still a bonehead..... J/K
  25. Are you volunteering? I'm sure that issue will be taken care of, soon enough.
