STEALTH Question?
warthog64 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I was wondering what makes the F-117 from the ODS pack for series 1 games stealthy? I ask this because the aircraft has no ECM equipment, or Chaff or flares and it is undectable by any radar system in the game. I know that all this applies to the real F-117 as well, but my question is why is the F-22A available for series 1 or 2 games not stealthy in the same way. I'm no expert on stealth technology, but I know in actual tests the raptor is a stealthier aircraft. So ultimately my question is what can I do in the "F-22A_DATA.ini" to make the F-22 as stealthy as the F-117? I fly the F-22 and radar always detects me from miles away, but the older and less stealthy F-117 is never detected in the game. Thanks Everyone -
STEALTH Question?

Thanks cadeteBRA! I guess that was the issue. I changed the -0.0001 in the F-22 to 0.0005 from the F-117_data.ini and it worked! -
I've had similar issues before. The best thing to do is to contact thirdwire at support@thirdwire.com and tell them about the issue you're having. They usually respond very quickly with an answer that works! Good Luck!

In the GUNDATA.ini make sure the entry for the Gau-8 looks like this [GunData025] TypeName=30MM_GAU8 FullName=30mm GAU-8/A Cannon Caliber=30.000000 ROF=4200.000000 MuzzleVel=1030.000000 AmmoWt=0.360000 WarheadWt=0.036000 Reliability=100.000000 Accuracy=50.000000 AddLight=TRUE MaxLightRange=1200.000000 FireColor=0.500000,0.450000,0.320000 GunFireEffect=Gau8FireEffect GunFireSound=GAU8------------------------------If this line says vulcan, simply change it to GAU8 EffectClassName=30mmEffects EffectTime=0.100000 TracerTexture=Tracer.tga TracerSize=0.200000 TracerDistFactor=0.002000 TracerLength=0.018000 MaxVisibleDist=4000.000000 MaxStreakVisibleDist=1000.000000 TimeFuzed=FALSE If you're unsure where the GUNDATA.ini file is, it is under the "Objects" folder in your main install Hope this helps -
P-47D Questions
warthog64 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just a couple questions regarding the P-47D for the SF series 1. I was wondering if a new P-47D model will be released, for either gen 1 or 2 games. 2. Also I was wondering if any new skins will be released for the current P-47D by wolf257, like maybe a 348th FG, 78th FG, 353rd FG, 57th FG, or new 56th FG skins etc. I know this is an old file but it is the only P-47D for either gen 1 or 2 games. Anyway thanks for any info -

Use these weapons packs, I believe they contain targeting pods like Lantirn, and Lightning http://combatace.com/files/file/8921-mgunny-331killerbees-sf2-ordnance-shop/ http://combatace.com/files/file/10602-mgunnys-ordnance-shop-ii-for-sf2/ Download the top file first Hope this helps -

With a GPS weapon all you need is to target it using the key you use as the "ground target finder" and as long as you are in range, the weapon selected it will work. If you want to use an LGB you will need a targeting pod. But try the fix I reccomended above and see if you like that. Laser designator pods are available I believe in the weapons downloads section for SF2, and also certain aircraft downloads include them. I also think that SF2 Exp1 and 2 also include them. Instructions on how to use them come with each download -

One quick and temporary fix until you can use a targeting pod is to use the weapons editor and change the guidance type of a GBU-10/12 from Laser Guided to GPS Homing. This way they will work without a targeting pod. I did this until I got gen 2 games. Hope this helps -
Also it depends alot on what era/type of air to air missile you are trying to evade. If it is an early Aim-9B or R-13, then executing a tight turn or break will usually defeat them. Modern missiles like the Aim-9M or Aim-9X and the R-73 are very difficult to evade. Sorry that I didn't mention this earlier. Have fun!

Is it a Surface to Air missile? Or an Air to Air missile? Also are you using chaff and flares? If it is a Surface to air Missile, break into the direction of the missile, and descend as quickly as possible. Also use chaff or flares to decoy any missile. Chaff of course is used to decoy radar guided missiles, while flares decoy infrared or heat seeking missiles. The same rules go for an air to air missile, but I'd reccomend executing a tight diving turn to decoy an air to air missile. And of course always use ECM equipment to jam enemy radars. Hope this helps

Which game to buy
warthog64 replied to TSgtT's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
You really can't go wrong with any version of SF2, they're all great. Also you can always purchase other versions down the road if you'd like and merge them into one install (that's what I've done). Unfortunately windows 7 is what you need, and I think the cheapest you can find it anywhere is 90 dollars for the basic version. However it is well worth it in my opinion, and I myself had to save money for about five months to afford windows 7 on my salary, however it was 180.00 for the basic version when I bought it almost two years ago, so it will probably not take as long now as it did then to afford it. But you won't be sorry, they are all great games! -
Very Nice!!!!!!

I didn't realize there were more pages to the story, I assumed it was Underhill's missile but thanks for letting me know that there were more pages to clear that up. Very interesting story. Thanks Mig Buster -

But yes you are right ezlead, this is very close. The Mig was obviously milliseconds from destruction when this was taken. -

Oh I see now, I guess I missed that, thanks. I thought it was a view from an F-15 of a missile about to strike an enemy aircraft. But I see now that this photo shows Rodriguez's F-15 in a defensive maneuver, while the Aim-7 is the one fired by Craig Underhill. This is off topic, but one other USAF fighter pilot since the Vietnam War also scored three aerial victories. Capt. Wilbur Wright shot down three Serb J-21 over Bosnia in 1994, however Col. Rodriguez was the last pilot with three aerial vicrtories to remain in USAF service until 2 years ago. If anyone has seen dogfights on the History channel it shows all three of Col. Rodriguez's aerial kills in two episodes, I'd reccomend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. -
That's too bad that such a rare and incredible warbird has been lost. I guess that leaves 12 flyable B-17s left. I'm glad the crew is fine though, that would have made it 100 times worse

The silhouette of the aircraft in the picture looks like a Mig-23 to me. I know Col. Rodriguez shot down both a Mig-23 and Mig-29 in Desert Storm, but his Fulcrum kill was achieved through maneuvering. Either way great article Mig Buster, Thanks -

I believe the AIM-7 is both a hit-to-kill weapon, and proximity fused. I think it all has to do with what the circumstance are when the missile finds its target. I could be wrong though. -
That's terrible, I'm sorry to hear that. This sounds like the same sort of thing I myself have come across on Craigslist, and other online Job sites. I don't even bother with these on line sources now, as most are "BS" Good luck with your job search, I myself am having problems as well right now to find a legit and good job. I currently have a temporary job with bad pay, So I'm also desperate to find something much better.

I don't think there is, but I'd enjoy a mod like that as well.
