  1. Well, let's assume for a second that all of TK's users are using intel chipset laptops... As I said on the last page, I was using a 2.2ghz dual core, 1GB RAM laptop with an intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics card up until a month ago. I got the laptop in 2007, so it was an old integrated card. I had no issues running Stary's terrains at medium settings. I could run the stock game at high settings. I would assume that a game developer would want to establish their graphics settings so that low end systems use "low" settings and high end systems use "high" settings. But now low end systems will use "high" settings and for those with high end systems, the game becomes the constraint instead of the equipment. I just don't get it. Oh well. I doubt this discussion will get us anywhere. It's up to TK at this point to decide the direction of the game and it's up to the consumer(s) to determine if the product is worth the price. *Edit* - I've changed my mind. This isn't the end of the world. I will continue supporting TK (as my bank account allows). I also edited my post on the TW boards.
  2. Well, on the one hand, I was using an intel chip until about a month ago. Not that I was the average user - just pointing out that it did happen. And I was under the hood just as much as anyone else. But, that being said, I was using an intel chip from 2007 and getting 30 fps with tree mods, horizon distance at normal, and ground objects at normal. So, TK is 100% wrong by using the intel chip thing as an excuse for cutting back draw distance. And besides, if that was an issue, why wouldn't he just make the "near" setting very near, but leave "far" and "very far" where they were? I don't understand why he needs to remove the scaleability of the game. He should be increasing it instead.
  3. Expressed my concern at the TW boards.
  4. Well, this is a bummer. I can say with 100% confidence that I will not continue patching or buying any future Expansion Packs if it is going to screw up the draw distance for trees, buildings, etc... I think TK is making a bad decision here. *Edit* - I've changed my mind. This isn't the end of the world. I will continue supporting TK (as my bank account allows). I also edited my post on the TW boards.
  5. Just got FSX in the last couple of weeks. I've already added GEX, UTX, REX, and Acceleration. Loving it on my new laptop!
  6. Guys - I normally use photobucket for screenshots, but I wanted to try using the CA gallery instead. I loaded my image there, but I can't figure out how to link it into my post so the image displays... Any help?
  7. Sorry. I should know the answer to this, but I don't. I just tried using the member gallery for the first time, and, while I was able to upload my image there, I can't figure out how to properly link it to a forum post. Normally, with photobucket, I copy the "" link it offers and paste that into my post. There is no such link in the CA gallery (that I can find), and posting the URL and other links that are offered when I click "share" just puts the link in my post, but doesn't display the image. What exactly do I need to do to get my gallery image to display in the thread/post? Thanks!

  10. Getting a new laptop

Hey guys, It looks like I'll be able to get a new laptop for gaming once our tax return shows up. Here is my "criteria": ~ $1000 Run SF2 with all the bells and whistles Run DCS A-10 at reasonably high settings Nice to have: be able to run IL-2:CoD, Jet Thunder, and Combat Helo when they come out. Right now I'm looking at an Alienware M11X. I know Dave has one and he's said some positive stuff about it. Here is the specific configuration I've selected: https://ecomm2.dell.com/dellstore/basket.aspx?cart_id=1009523302412&toEmail=ecomm@dell.com (for those to lazy to click on the link: i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 1GB GT330M, 320 GB HD, Win7, external optical drive) Any thoughts or suggestions? Will this meet the needs I listed above? Can I get more bang for my buck with something else? The only things I'm questioning are the HD size (but i already have external drives I can use if I need to) and RAM. Upgrading to 8GB RAM is about $170... Thanks! Gregg
  11. Thanks Panama Red! You should upload that to the downloads section!
  12. Quick bump! Can anyone comment on what I asked about above? Does anyone have lots of clouds in "broken" with the last patch, or is it FUBAR for everyone else in addition to me? Thanks.
  13. Getting a new laptop

Yep. DX10 now. I was using XP before. I've already noticed some "glowing" tracers. (That's a DX10 shader thing, right?)
  14. The "I'm not going to watch the wedding" thread

I am 1000 times more excited about watching Michael Scott's (Steve Carrel) last episode on the Office tonight than I could ever be about some celebrity wedding. So, no, I will not be watching.
  15. Getting a new laptop

Well, it finally came yesterday!!! I went home at lunch and fired it up for the first time - everything worked fine. By the time I went to bed last night, I had all my personal stuff (music, pictures, etc...) copied over, all my music and playlists up and running in itunes, and ALL of my backed up games copied onto the HD. I also had the mod folders for my four SF2 installations set up. I fired up a CAS mission in an A-10 over NF4+ GermanyCE this morning before work with all graphics set to Unlimited... ...and... the moment of truth... FPS pegged at 50!!! SWEET!!! (my old laptop gave me ~20-25 fps at low-med settings...). Next up is get TrackIR and my Saitek software installed. Then make sure FS9 (and all the addons) are working. Then make sure IL-2 is working and get UP3.0 installed. Then EECH... Then I'll probably download FF5.5 and give that a try. Oh yeah... So far, I think I like Win7. Still getting used to some stuff, but so far so good...
  16. Hey guys, I know I'm late to the party on this one, but I just want to confirm that something I'm seeing for the first time is what's already been discussed here. I had a modified environmentsystem.ini file where I changed the cloud values for broken to be the same as scattered due to system performance. I just got my new laptop, and since I'm pegged at 50fps with all unlimited settings, I decided to restore the original widesky broken layer. However, no matter what I tried, broken always looked similar to scattered. I tried: Restoring my original environmentsystem.ini file Using the one from the SF2 Falkland Mod Using the one from "Better Widesky for SF2" by the insky team Starting with a fresh Flight folder (instead of my NF4+ one) and installing just "Better Widesky..." After trying each of the above, I never got the old "Broken", which was a sky full of clouds. Just scattered looking stuff. I renamed my Flight folder and started the sim to confirm that I was messing with the right folder, and I got stock clouds and sky. When I restored my Flight folder, I got the Widesky stuff again (minus the full clouds). So I know I was playing with the right folder and files. So anyway, this problem is what this thread was about, right? Or do I have something else weird going on? ( I hope not...) Thanks! Gregg

  18. Hi all, I enjoyed a nice weekend in Tahoe over the last 3 days, so as I was sitting on the couch last night letting my body recover, I fired up FS9 to explore the area "from the air". The first flight I set up out of Lake Tahoe airport was set to noon, winter, and fair weather. As I took off, I noticed that the color of Lake Tahoe in game is a nasty "lake green", not a brilliant blue like the real-life lake. Because I was playing using my keyboard, I promptly crashed and had to restart the flight. Same settings, but this time the lake was blue. After I crashed again (why didn't I get my joystick out?), I restarted and the lake was green again. On a couple following the flights, the lake remained green. There is a resivour right near my house (Crystal Springs) that is always a nice dark blue, and I remember it appearing blue in FS9 before. However, last night, I set up a flight and it was that nasty lake-green. Now that I think about it, since I've had FS9 over the last year, I think I've seen lakes show up as both blue and green. Over that time, I've also experiemented with different addons. Does anyone know what determines weather a lake shows up as blue or green? Is it dictated by landclass? Weather? Season? Here are the addons I have installed: Ground Environment Pro Real Environment Pro Active Sky 6 Ultimate Terrain USA FS Genesis USA Landclass (above UT in my scenery library) Megascenery San Francisco (does cover Crystal Springs, but haven't had an issue in the past) Megascenery Nor Cal (does not cover lake tahoe) Thanks!
