Strange WOV graphics problem.
malibu43 replied to Bossco82's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I've found that turning object texture and object detail down to low help in a lot of instances where FPS became a problem. If you're flying from the cockpit, you usually won't notice the difference in quality either. Just something to try. -
Proper A-1H/J Skyraider loadout
malibu43 replied to gerwin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
This the loadout that was included with v1.0 of the SF2V expansion pack. I preferred these: // Station 1 = Left Wing Station Outboard 1 // Station 2 = Right Wing Station Outboard 1 // Station 3 = Left Wing Station Outboard 2 // Station 4 = Right Wing Station Outboard 2 // Station 5 = Left Wing Station Outboard 3 // Station 6 = Right Wing Station Outboard 3 // Station 7 = Left Wing Station Outboard 4 // Station 8 = Right Wing Station Outboard 4 // Station 9 = Left Wing Station Outboard 5 // Station 10 = Right Wing Station Outboard 5 // Station 11 = Left Wing Station Outboard 6 // Station 12 = Right Wing Station Outboard 6 // Station 13 = Left Wing Station Inboard // Station 14 = Right Wing Station Inboard // Station 15 = Fuselage Station [AirToAir] [AirToAirLongRange] [Attack] Loadout[01].WeaponType=LAU-32A Loadout[01].Quantity=1 Loadout[02].WeaponType=LAU-32A Loadout[02].Quantity=1 Loadout[03].WeaponType=LAU-32A Loadout[03].Quantity=1 Loadout[04].WeaponType=LAU-32A Loadout[04].Quantity=1 Loadout[05].WeaponType=AN-M47A4-PWP Loadout[05].Quantity=1 Loadout[06].WeaponType=AN-M47A4-PWP Loadout[06].Quantity=1 Loadout[07].WeaponType=AN-M47A4-PWP Loadout[07].Quantity=1 Loadout[08].WeaponType=AN-M47A4-PWP Loadout[08].Quantity=1 Loadout[09].WeaponType=AN-M47A4-PWP Loadout[09].Quantity=1 Loadout[10].WeaponType=AN-M47A4-PWP Loadout[10].Quantity=1 Loadout[11].WeaponType=LAU-3A Loadout[11].Quantity=1 Loadout[12].WeaponType=LAU-3A Loadout[12].Quantity=1 Loadout[13].WeaponType=Tank_OV10 Loadout[13].Quantity=1 Loadout[14].WeaponType=Tank_OV10 Loadout[14].Quantity=1 Loadout[15].WeaponType=Tank300_A4 Loadout[15].Quantity=1 Loadout[03].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[03].Quantity=1 Loadout[04].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[04].Quantity=1 Loadout[06].Quantity=1 Loadout[07].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[07].Quantity=1 Loadout[08].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[08].Quantity=1 Loadout[10].Quantity=1 Loadout[11].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[11].Quantity=1 Loadout[12].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[12].Quantity=1 Loadout[13].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[13].Quantity=1 Loadout[14].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[14].Quantity=1 Loadout[15].WeaponType=Tank300_A4 Loadout[15].Quantity=1 [sEAD] Loadout[01].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[01].Quantity=1 Loadout[02].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[02].Quantity=1 Loadout[03].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[03].Quantity=1 Loadout[04].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[04].Quantity=1 Loadout[05].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[05].Quantity=1 Loadout[06].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[06].Quantity=1 Loadout[07].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[07].Quantity=1 Loadout[08].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[08].Quantity=1 Loadout[09].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[09].Quantity=1 Loadout[10].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[10].Quantity=1 Loadout[11].WeaponType=LAU-3A Loadout[11].Quantity=1 Loadout[12].WeaponType=LAU-3A Loadout[12].Quantity=1 Loadout[13].WeaponType=CBU-24B Loadout[13].Quantity=1 Loadout[14].WeaponType=CBU-24B Loadout[14].Quantity=1 Loadout[15].WeaponType=Tank300_A4 Loadout[15].Quantity=1 [Anti-Ship] Loadout[03].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[03].Quantity=1 Loadout[04].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[04].Quantity=1 Loadout[06].Quantity=1 Loadout[07].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[07].Quantity=1 Loadout[08].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[08].Quantity=1 Loadout[10].Quantity=1 Loadout[11].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[11].Quantity=1 Loadout[12].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[12].Quantity=1 Loadout[13].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[13].Quantity=1 Loadout[14].WeaponType=M117 Loadout[14].Quantity=1 Loadout[15].WeaponType=Tank300_A4 Loadout[15].Quantity=1 [FAC] Loadout[11].WeaponType=LAU-3A Loadout[11].Quantity=1 Loadout[12].WeaponType=LAU-3A Loadout[12].Quantity=1 Loadout[13].WeaponType=Tank_A1 Loadout[13].Quantity=1 Loadout[14].WeaponType=Tank_A1 Loadout[14].Quantity=1 Loadout[15].WeaponType=Tank300_A4 Loadout[15].Quantity=1 [Recon] Loadout[01].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[01].Quantity=1 Loadout[02].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[02].Quantity=1 Loadout[03].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[03].Quantity=1 Loadout[04].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[04].Quantity=1 Loadout[05].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[05].Quantity=1 Loadout[06].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[06].Quantity=1 Loadout[07].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[07].Quantity=1 Loadout[08].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[08].Quantity=1 Loadout[09].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[09].Quantity=1 Loadout[10].WeaponType=MK81 Loadout[10].Quantity=1 Loadout[11].WeaponType=LAU-3A Loadout[11].Quantity=1 Loadout[12].WeaponType=LAU-3A Loadout[12].Quantity=1 Loadout[13].WeaponType=BLU-1 Loadout[13].Quantity=1 Loadout[14].WeaponType=BLU-1 Loadout[14].Quantity=1 Loadout[15].WeaponType=Tank300_A4 Loadout[15].Quantity=1 -
Tribute to the NF4 team
malibu43 replied to xclusiv8's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Along those lines - I know I've seen some .ini lines somewhere that make reference to an "intro" movie. What would one need to do in order to get this video to work as an intro movie? Does that feature even work? It would be great to have this one for NF4+ and another one for the SF2V exp packs! -
I watched the Mechwarrior 5 trailer on youtube the other day, and it gave me the desire to march around in a completely unnecessary, huge, beast of a robot blasting things with less efficiency than what most of our current conventional weapons are capable of. So, the only way to satisfy this craving was to bust out my MW3 CD and reinstall it. I was actually very pleasantly surprised how well the graphics look and how well the game plays, for something that's 10 years old. If you set up the controls right, it plays very well on a laptop even without an external mouse or joystick. Any other mech drivers out there? If anyone does decide to blow the dust off this old game, make sure to check out mechwarrior3.org for some patches and fixes for common XP issues.
-
After messing with both MW3 and MW4, I can say for certain that I prefer MW3. It just feels more like I'm driving a huge beast of a robot. MW4 reminded me too much of the Mech Assault games on xbox.

WIP SF2 F14
malibu43 replied to xclusiv8's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Funny... just last night I was toying with the idea of trying to add the MF F-14A into my NF 4+ install, but decided not to because I didn't want the hassle of getting the MF F-14 working in SF2. Now it looks like I made the right call! I passed on SF2I, but if SF2:X includes F-14's and more carrier ops, there's a good chance I'll pick this one up. -
Well, I've tried every MW4 No CD link I can get off of google, and haven't found anything that works. However, after looking into the free release a little more, it looks like it's true, but a little behind schedule. I'll just wait and play MW3 in the meantime.
-
I never played MW4. I have a copy, but can't get it to run without a no-cd crack, which I can't find. I've heard MW4 had better graphics, but that MW3 was a better "Mech Sim".

Razbam skyraiders
malibu43 replied to dsawan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Read through this thread: http://forum.combatace.com/topic/24650-loadout-problem/ Look for the part about re-numbering the "bombay". (I actually think that you can just delete the entire bombay, if you use the canopy fix listed above, but try that at your own risk). I had heavily modded the Razbam A-1's to fix some things I didn't like about them, but I abandoned those when SF2 came out including A-1's. -
Any new (or old) SF2 mods in the works?
malibu43 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I was just curious what (if any) total conversion mods are in the works for the SF2 series. A loooooonnnnnnnnggg time ago, I think Dave mentioned that there were plans to rework ODS and OTC for the new series. Things seem pretty slow around here right now, so I'm not expecting that either of these are coming up any time soon. But I was just curious if anyone's working on 'em or not. -
Any new (or old) SF2 mods in the works?
malibu43 replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ok, that all pretty much answers my question. Pretty much what I expected, but I thought I'd ask anyway. And FWIW, I'm totally with all of that said you're a little burnt out. I haven't played any flight sims in months, and certainly don't have the drive to do any serious modding. I just thought I'd ask since it seemed like only months ago, there was talk about updating a lot of the older mods, and then things just sort of died down... Dave, you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the continuous engine updates and patches. Don't get me wrong, TK has done some amazing things to keep this sim updated and made great incremental improvements over the last couple of years that I've been around it. But I can see (and already have experienced) how frustrating it can be to release a mod and then have a new patch (or generation) mean you have to go back and rework the whole thing if you want it to work with the newer title. Very long and boring process, with very little payoff. And when I say little payoff, I mean little payoff. Think about it... If someone new to the series were to sit down and play OTC with the '06 patch, and then OTC with SF2E, would they really noticed much of a difference wtih regards to gameplay or "fun factor"? Probably not. Same with an '08 ODS vs. SF2E ODS. So I hope no one found my question irritating or thought I was nagging about new releases. I had just noticed that a lot of the regulars (in addition to the absent C5) weren't posting as much anymoreI was just curious if there was much going on or everyone was taking a well deserved break. Happy Holiday's, all! -
questions
malibu43 replied to Vambrace's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I don't have a campaign_Data.ini file in front of me right now, but the rate at which new pilots show up may be tied to one of the supply levels up at the top of the campaign file. Strategic nodes have to be manual created using targets areas from the terrain's _target.ini file, and I found it very tricky to get them to work the way I wanted. If you look in the Steel Tiger or Easter Offensive campaigns in the SV2V expansion pack, you can see the way I did those. I basically created a ground war with a static front line. It works, most to the time... I think... -
campaign fix
malibu43 replied to Vambrace's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, as far as I know, no one's ever hit a limit. I think some of the SF2V expansion pack campaigns are up over 100 units. Maybe 999 is the limit...? -
campaign fix
malibu43 replied to Vambrace's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The unit ID that you list in the *.ini file (n) needs to be the "n'th" unit listed for that force ID in the *_data.ini file. In other words, if the campaign _data.ini file has the first 5 units for Force 1, then 53 units for Force 2, then "Unit 55" with your F-16's, then the unit ID you need to list in the campaign.ini file is UnitID=6, not UnitID=55. Clear as mud? -
SF2V / WOV Air & Ground Expansion Packs
malibu43 replied to eburger68's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Just thought I'd pop in here for a moment and comment on the mission types in steel tiger. The first thing to do to get the focus to be on interdiction rather than CAS, would be to simply go into the campaign file and for each squadron: - lower the mission chances for CAS (try something like 60%) -Increase the mission chances for Armed_Recon (Maybe 100%) and Strike (maybe 80%) That's a start. If we want to get even more Armed_Recon, you could adjust the supply levels to keep N.Vietnam on the offensive most of the time. -
Later sam systems or ground units dont show in sf2
malibu43 replied to dsawan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You missed the point of Fubar's post. You need to extend the service dates for the SAM's you want to see and their respective radar systems. I think the SA-2 and SA-6 have service years that end in the '70s or '80s. Change those to 2040 or something like that. Do the same for any other SAM's you want to show up later on. -
More AA/SAM cover over the Dhimar/Paran theater?
malibu43 replied to Julhelm's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I also have a zip file I can upload later on that contains the "more challenging" AAA from the SF2V Expansion Pack that could probably be "drag and dropped" into any SF2X install as a AAA/Mobile SAM upgrade (it also includes SA-9's and SA-13's). This won't require any editing of the terrain, but will make the environment much more dangerous and challenging. I'll see if I can find it later... -
Well, I'm tired of carrying all my stuff around in an unorganized, dirty, old, laptop bag. I want to protect my headset, and my terminal chart is getting torn. I'm thinking about this one right now: http://sportys.com/P...p/product/11877 I want something to get me through the rest of my training, and last through my first few years after I get my license. Once I get my license, I'm assuming that I'll stick with 172's, VFR only, with some short XC trips. Based on that, I don't think I'll need (or want) something too big. If I'm staying somewhere overnight, I'll probably have a separate bag for clothes etc... anyway. Things that will go in the bag: Headset POH Charts Checklist(s) E6B Notebook (right now it's 8 1/2" x 11", might have to get something a little smaller...) Misc pens, calculator, etc... Any thoughts or suggestions?

WOV Ground War Enhancement v2.1
malibu43 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: WOV Ground War Enhancement v2.1 File Submitter: malibu43 File Submitted: 25 Nov 2008 File Updated: 24 Jun 2009 File Category: User Made Campaigns Wings Over Vietnam Ground War and Targets Enhancement v2.1 by malibu43 This is an update of my original WoV ground war mod. This mod will add a "static" ground war to two new campaigns in WOV. I call them "static" because the nodes are defined in such a way that neither side can advance very far and capture the other sides base. The result is a front line that never really moves and continuous ground battles regardless of how much success (or defeat) you experience. This mod also adds VC camps and bases in South Vietnam and Laos, as well as armed recon routes moving between them. I decided to develop this after having a desire to fly campaigns in Skyraiders, F-100's, and A-7's that contained a more accurate mix of missions. I also noticed that with the game (WOV) in it's stock form, there is absolutely no reason to ever use Napalm... Vietnam with no Napalm?!?!? This mod fixes all of that... To Install: This is an enhancement of my original WoV ground war mod. It adds two completely new campaigns To Install: 1. Back up your campaign folder and terrain folder if you have any mods already installed (or just do it anyway... it's a good idea!). 2. Copy Terrain folders into your WOV directory. 3. Install the following add-ons: - Soviet Artillery: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=6043 - Infantry Pack: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=5350 - Mirage Factory A-7E: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=6889 - Sky Raiders: Razbam Skyraiders Volume 1 and Volume 2 or free A-1H: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...mp;showfile=747 If you use the free A-1H, you need to open both campaign files and change A-1E, A-1J, and AD-7 to A-1H wherever necessary. 4. Drop the F-100D_data.ini in the aircraft's folder. The aircraft roles are modified to get more A/G and less A/A, which is how the F-100D was used in Vietnam. The mission radius is also reduced to keep it mainly striking targets in S. Vietnam. 5. Go into the _data.ini's for whatever Skyraiders you're using and change the normal mission radius to 350 and the max mission radius to 375. This keeps the Skyraiders limited to striking targets in the south. (sorry this isn't included, but the Razbam stuff is payware...) NormalMissionRadius=350 MaxMissionRadius=375 6. Drop the 'campaigns' folder into your install 7. Go blow s**t up! PM me with any questions or feedback. Changes from 2.0 - Two new campaigns are included now instead of modifying the Rolling Thunder and Linebacker I campaigns. Credits - Thanks to TeTeT for the original modifications to the types and targets.ini files. Click here to download this file -
WOV Ground War Enhancement v2.1
malibu43 replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Papa Goat, Regarding the infantry facing the wrong direction. I've never noticed that before. I would guess that it might have something to do with the way the nodes are set up, but I'm not sure. Unfortunately, I won't have any time to look into it either. In all honesty, I usually just fly to the target area, find the bad guys, and destroy them without paying much attention to what's going on in the fire fight. I'll pass this along to eburger68 and see if he has any time to look at it. He's doing an upgrade to the WoV ground war pack based on the one we did for SF2V. For the napalm, I know what you're talking about. I've messed with the explosive values before to get better results. You can easily do the same; just increase the explosives until you get results that you like. If you use the weapons editor, you'll also notice that there are other warhead types available that might result in different effects (incendiary, HE, etc..). Also, if you look around in the downloads section, there is a mod that CA_Stary did that utilized that clusterbomb warhead type. I never tried it, though. Good luck! -
Vogesen Terrain - Red line on planning map
malibu43 replied to Mike Dora's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
If it's in the same place it's at in the WoX series, it's in the *_movement.ini file in the terrain folder. The first section of that file has the entries for the front line, and below that, it says which portion of the front line will be drawn on the map. -
how to avoid that kind of clipping
malibu43 replied to Murphy'S's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Has he tired adjusting the horizon distance (to medium, far, or unlimited) in the graphics section of the in game options? That would be the first thing I would try. -
SF2V / WOV Air & Ground Expansion Packs
malibu43 replied to eburger68's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Your best bet for getting a more up to date (SF2V level) LBIII scenario would be to: -Copy the terrain folders. Go into the SouthVietnam_targets.ini file and change all the specialized AAA entries (I'm not sure exactly what they look like at the moment) and change them all to just 'AAA'. Shouldn't be too hard using Find/Change. -Copy the easter offensive and LBII campaign files and change the names, dates, and campaign description files to reflect mid '80's. Change the aircraft used to be their 1980's equivalents. (use only aircraft that come in NF4+). -Find all the SF2V AGXP specific ground object that are called out in the campaign files and terrain _types.ini and _targets.ini files. -Drop the terrain folder, new campaign files, and necessary ground objects into a NF4+ install. I'm not saying this won't screw something up, as I haven't tried it. But I think it would be the fasted and easiest way to get a LBIII style campaign for the second generation games. Anyone up for trying it? -
SF2V / WOV Air & Ground Expansion Packs
malibu43 replied to eburger68's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
The targets.ini for LBIII only had AAA entries in target areas in laos and cambodia. However, if you installed any of the mobile SAMs (SA-8,9,13,19... etc) they would show up in those locations. I think with the SF2V exp pack, those AAA sites in laos and cambodia have been tweaked such that those mobile sams won't show up there anymore. -
