  1. I stand corrected, then. It's been a while since I looked at the SF2E campaigns...
  2. Where is that ground noise map from? I really like it. Required screen:
  3. Just throwing my 2 cents in here, full of generalizations and lacking any actual data... The F-35 might not be cost-effective and could be "overkill" for the job we're expecting it's potential customers to need it to perform 98% of the time (air policing, current conflicts in the Middle East and Asia, etc...). But if/when "WWIII" breaks out, all those potential customers no longer need to worry about just intercepting hijacked airliners or dropping bombs on 4 guys behind a rock. The other 2% of the time has now arrived, and the concern is now taking on other Gen 4+/5 fighters and penetrating advanced SAM/air defense networks and the F-35 is looking a lot better compared to an F/A-18E. Let's not be too short sighted... ...and, at the very least, it is a deterrent.
  4. What you are seeing is directly copied over from the stock campaigns. All I did was change airfield names to match Desert4 and move USN and USMC units to carriers. I can also say, though, that it is that way intentionally and for a good reason. It allows you to have, in this example, only one USAF F-100D unit in the campaign (as defined in the campaignx_data.ini), but give the player the option of choosing which unit/squadron it will be (as defined in campaignx.ini). If you scroll down you'll see that other unitID's are eventually called out as well. I believe the SF2E campaigns are done this way as well. I also think that the SF1 and WoE campaigns were like this, but I can't remember off the top of my head. As eburger68 pointed out, this was not correct.
  5. Nice, Wrench. I will check this out later.
  6. DCS: F-86F Saber

Looks nice! I wish I had enough time to spend on DCS/FC3 to justify buying more modules.
  7. It comes with one really nice looking skin. I'd like to have a few more so I can change things up in a campaign. Anyone know if there are any others available? I didn't find any... http://combatace.com/topic/67294-a-4l-skyhawk-by-crab-02-column5/
  8. I'm with you Wrench. Bashing together an F-8K and an A-4L were a couple of fun little 15 min projects, but I think I'm just going to spend the whopping $10 to add the TW A-4L, F-8K, and F-4N. I do have a question, just for personal education. Based on the way I put together that A-4L, it's just using stock A-4E_67 skins and decal placement. So, assuming one is OK with the skins and markings representing A-4E's and not actual A-4L's, there shouldn't be any skinning/decal work to do, right? The extra skinning decal work would come if you want the planes to have all the year/unit specific markings for the L.
  9. Speaking of squadronlist.ini, where can I get the most up to date version? I think I have the version from your update of the F-4N installed right now...
  10. Try this out, Wrench. It's a franken-plane combo of the A-4C_65, A-4E_67, and A-4F. A-4L.rar
  11. Not to steal FastCargo's thunder, but it should be: C:\Program Files\Wings Over Europe\Objects\Weapons Move your weapons folder then give it a try.
  12. In a fully merged install, I get "Hawkeye" no matter which .exe I execute or which terrain I fly over. I'd rather have Red Crown, since I think the sound files match up with everything else better. Anyone know if I can do this? PS - I've tried the modified Hawkeye sounds from here at CA, and I would still just prefer to have Red Crown back.
  13. Thanks folks. A lot of options/ideas here for me to play with. I'll figure out what I want to do.
  14. Macdonalds burgers unfit for human consumption

I find this statement to be misleading. A raw chicken breast is also unfit for human consumption before it goes through "additional processing" to remove microbial agents (ie - heating to 160 degrees F). In other words, the fact that it is "unfit for human consumption without additional processing" means nothing to me, because the same could be said of much of the food we eat when it's in it's raw form. I'm with Whiteknight. Not really worried about it.
  15. I have a "mostly stock-ish" install that includes all titles merged. I've added a few key aircraft that fit into that time period that were not included in the stock game, but not much else. This last weekend, I got a real hankerin' to fly an F/A-18 in my SF2 install. So I started brainstorming what I would need to add to my install to stretch the game up to 1983 when the F-18 was introduced. Keep in mind, I'm not looking for every single aircraft that was active at that time; just additional variants of the aircraft in the stock game, and maybe the "key players" that were introduced in the early 80's. Here's the list I have so far (found most of these in the downloads section already): F/A-18A MiG-29A F-4S F-4G F-15C A-4M Tornado GR1 My install already includes the F-16A and F-111's. And now I need your help: 1) Are there any aircraft I'm missing? I have a very US-centric focus, and I'm fine with that. 2) What about the MiG-23 and MiG-21? Were there variants added between 1979 and 1983 that I need to try to find and add? Thanks!
  16. Thanks Wrench. I went ahead and created one based on your recommendations. It took all of 5 minutes. I just copied over all of the F-8E_66 skins, although I'm not sure if they are all accurate. Anyone know which ones I should keep? Interesting that wikipedia lists something totally different than what you got from your book (which is how I came up with my original proposed combination of F-8C/E/J), but I trust your F-8 book.
  17. Thanks. Any idea when I should have the K enter service?
  18. Thanks Wrench. No worries if you don't have time for it. I can always just grab TK's version if I really need more flexibility with skins.
  19. Thanks DA. I've added STORM's for now. I'm feeling very cheap about all this. Adding the 3rd party A-4L as well, instead of buying DLC. Speaking of being cheap, I want to create my own F-8K vs buying the DLC. Here's what I have: Start with latest version of F-8C Add in the engine from the F-8E Add in the radar from the F-8J Anything else? What year did the F-8K enter service? And when were they retired? (can't find any of that on the internet)
  20. Well maybe I will add them too if I have time. Any thoughts on if I should buy the DLC F-4N or use the latest N in the downloads section here at CA? I've also added MiG-25P/PD's to my list. As with any SF2 mini-project, scope creep is now in full force, and the project is becoming less "mini" by the minute!
  21. +1 For this very reason, I'm gravitating back toward SF2 even though I thought I'd sworn it off.
  22. Thanks guys. I have downloaded and prepped the following to be added to a test install: A-4M F-4G F-4S F-15C FA-18A MiG-29A SU-17 (up through M4) SU-24 (up through M) SU-25 Tornado GR1 I decided to pass on the F-4N, since it looks like it is just a B upgraded to J, and the stock game already has the J. A lot of these came in big packs, so I had to go through the loadout.ini's and grab just the weapons needed for the variants I wanted to install. As a result, I'll have to test these out quite a bit to make sure I got everything I need. This will give me a nice mid-80's scenario to play around with.
  23. In order for us to tell you how to correctly add the weapons so that they show up in the loadout for your F-16, you need to tell us: 1. Which F-16 you have downloaded and what you did to install it (to make sure it's installed correctly) 2. Which weapons or weapons pack you have downloaded and what you did to install it (to make sure it's installed correctly) 3. Which patch level your game is at (I'm assuming you're at the Oct 2008 level since you just thanked someone for the link to the patch). There is no way to have a detailed thread in the knowledge base to cover step by step installation for every possible combination of aircraft, weapons packs, and patch levels. That's what the readme in the download is for. Unfortunately sometimes, a good readme isn't included. (If it was included and you didn't read it, you best get to it!)
