Strike Fighters 2 Europe
Icarus999 replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Could you clarify that for me Dave? No Hud on third party aircraft? I have not yet moved over to the sf2 series and since all of my favorite aircraft are third party the no HUD issue would be a serious deal breaker. I'm pretty happy with the 08 patch for air to air and the 06 patch for air to ground so maybe I should just wait this out till TK gets this new series patched up? kinda wondering if I'm missing something here cause it does not seem like you would give up modding the original series if the new one still had these kind of issues. -
He probably planned to list it on ebay, but shipping on one of those is a bitch.

It's been awhile so they all sort of run together in my mind.... one of the best scenes was the corrupt judge who was drowned in rotten pork puree.

The nicest looking airplane ever
Icarus999 replied to Rambler 1-1's topic in Military and General Aviation
Yeah... is ugly like a shark.. or a cold eyed barrel chested no necked delta operative that pulls his enemy into the shadows without warning and finishes him silently.. or ugly like the marine sniper who so scares the s**t out of enemy troops he becomes the most hated man on the battlefield. After 2 world wars and Korea the art of fighter combat had retained to its gentlemanly ethics to a certain extent, it was contest of skill between officers in sleek graceful aircraft that were given female names by their pilots. Take a look at the F-4.... it is a brute... probably the most manly looking "Fighter" that has ever been produced. Now are you really going to give this barbarian a girly name and matching nose art? That would be like putting tits on a bull. The f-4 was pure testosterone, it was all about speed and power. The F-4 was like a hotrodded big block musslecar being sneered at by the tight turning sports car crowd The F-4 was designed to shoot you in the face before you even knew it was there. The enemy hated it for that reason, rival "Fighter" squadrons who flew other types that lacked the f-4's capability looked down on the phantom and its crews as it was an Interceptor and had an unfair bvr advantage. The rules of engagement that the f-4 faced in Vietnam seemed to have been written by the Mig design bureau and the north Vietnamese, they were nothing less than asinine... the equivalent of sending a sniper team into a room clearing CQB environment. Combine all of that with vietnam era missiles that were not nearly as capable/reliable as the gunless interceptor they were mounted on and you get the perfect formula for an ugly reputation. In the last decade of the F-4's life in U.S. service the F-4 recived the late model sparrows and sidewinders that allowed it to fufill its potential as an interceptor. Me, I like the Phantoms "uglyness" If I fly it right it will kick the butt out of some much more attractive and modern aircraft. -
This is really awful, may she receive the best medical care and heal quickly. I miss her sarcastic wit and humerus postings.

Pappy, thanks for all of the great work you contributed to the community. I know this is a huge set back and a major kick in the nuts to many years of hard work, take some time and get a well deserved break. I'm sure we will be seeing you around here in the not to distant future. -

Your Nemesis...
Icarus999 replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Agreed.... the mix from hell is Su-27's at altitude and modernized Mig-17's on the deck. Throw in some mountain/canyon terrain and things get real interesting. -
is any one running third wire with SLI/ or crossfire
Icarus999 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Okay folks this has been asked before.... but it's been quite a while and I am wondering if any of you are running third wire on a full blown super gaming rig and if so what are the results? With today's cards like the 9800gx2 that is a self contained 2 GPU SLI unit or the new gtx295 theoretically in SLI we should be able to max everything out and get over 30fps while running all of the great frame rate killing mods like combining the comms mod with widesky, starys effects and high aircraft skins while running frapps and some bada** target rich tree filled terrain at 1920X 1080p...you get the idea. So far I have held off with the SLI upgrade because the original reports were that there were problems with these games, but honestly it seems more likely to me that the problems that were reported like pixilation may have been caused by something else altogether. 2 9800GX2 run together makes a quad SLI rig that has been doccumented hitting 80 fps running Crysis. This seems like the way to go and I am seriously thinking about going this route but since very few people are reporting thier results running third wire with SLI rigs I am a bit nervous abous spending the cash. Anyone here running SLI or for that matter the 9800GX2 or the new GTX295? -
Excellent work, thank you Erik.

dumb question here....
Icarus999 replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Copy your install and paste it into a new folder in your user folder -your new copy is ready to mod. Vista will not allow you to mod your ini text when you install the game in program files or program files 86. Now you have two separate working installs You can mod any ini you want in your user install and then paste a copy it into into your other install in program files, you will have to delete the ini in program files before you can copy the new one over from your user files install. -
trackir
Icarus999 replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Trackir is the single most important link in my rig, once you try it you will never go back. I took the plunge and bought it along with CH products fighterstick, pro throttle, and rudder pedals. The sim is a whole different world with this new setup. Before I bought trackir and the CH controls a guns kill was purely a matter of luck, not any more I find my self passing up way to many good missile shots in order to get in close and use the gun. The first time you enter the merge using trackir and are able to keep your eyes on the enemy as he passes... never losing sight of him while you bring the nose around on him you will be totally hooked. -
THIRD WIRE FEATURES
Icarus999 replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
What if we could list in an aircraft data file a prompt to force the AI to utilize an aircraft based on its strengths and weaknesses. For instance slashing high altitude high energy attacks with the F-101B voodoo as apposed to a close range turning engagement with an F-16 or Mig -17. -

Now that is funny , would not be surprised it it started a huge panic in the dumbass community.

The best way to deal with racist idiots is to let them have their soap box and get all of their opinions out in the open where people can see them for what they are.

This strain of flu is something to be taken seriously, you should not panic, yet you should take precautions and be prepared for what might happen if this thing takes off like the 1918 flu that killed millions. At this point my biggest concern is the flu's effect on our week economy.

Europe as a bigger terrain
Icarus999 replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hey stary, what do you recommend for a tree mod on this terrain? Are there any compatible "snow dusted" trees that will work with the hard winter version of this terrain. Should look pretty nice with the right trees, the heavy snowfall mod and the Lex Luther sky/sun mods. -

A-4M- supposedly Razbam is working on this one... but that was a year ago, and i have not heard any news. SR-71 Updated versions of the F-4S and F-4N. most everything else I want is a work in progress I would really like it if one of our flight model guru's would take a look at some of the older- 8/06 patch level aircraft and give them a little F.M. love. Watching the new patch AI fly great models like the F-106 for example is pretty humorous, its like the models are suspended from a string slightly behind their balance point and some one keeps whacking the nose.
