BAC Lightning - Ejército del Aire
macelena replied to Spinners's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
1972. He said it because the unit serials became two digits when aircraft were assigned to the wing-group, in the late 80s. By that time, aircraft belonged to squadrons, so 3 digits were used. However, being a what if, it is better than OK. -
Any interest in a Football War campaign?
macelena replied to Viggen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Been discussing this with Flogger23 a few times, ad hoc terrain is needed, however, most if not all the aircraft involved are already available. Campaign lenght is not an issue, since Northern Sabre is 3 or 4 days only, let alone the 6 day war, you only have to get several sorties per day, trouble is running out of planes too quickly. Mustangs vs Corsairs...what else could you ask for? -

Upgrading stock campaigns: Northern Sabre...any other ideas?
macelena replied to macelena's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Had a lot of spare time lately, so i finished the campaign with VF-213 off USS America, couldn´t get the Buffs to show up, been suggested it is due to Leuchars being too small for them, but anyway, i´m thinking on replacing them. Flew a little over enemy airbases, SA-8s were giving mud movers a bad day. Also, escorting three Alpha Strike, while not being in the tip of the spear, is cool, will try again with Corsairs. Already did the stock campaign with 57th FIS Phantoms, i don´t think it will be much of a difference with land based F-4Ns, but any input on wich squadron it could have been would be great. BTW, during the whole campaign i flew not a single sortie against cruise missile attacks...is there anything like them being directed against nimitz and beung dealed with their tomcats, or does the success of CAPs diminish their capabilities? Most caps i flew, i had two or three recon bombers in sight, and killed as many as i could -

My father is a Navy Supply Officer. In all ships he has served after the movie came out, (subs and frigates) Down Periscope was the favourite. And when he was in Naval Academy, they would screen Operation Pettycoat as an example of a creative supply officer. I don´t know if it would count as a war film, but i had to watch Tropic Thunder Twice. When i stopped laughing my ass off after the Tom Cruise rant, it was the landmine scene, and kept laughing at that until the Never go full retard, then again until...well, you guys get the idea

"Stripes", "Tropic Thunder", "Dr Strangelove", "What did you do in war, daddy?" However, i would say my favourite is "Down Periscope"

SF2 Series DACT Reports And Related A2A Discussions (Game only)
macelena replied to EricJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Even some of us never do better Back on topic, i´ve been trying an scenario with the campaign customizer that had Iranian F-14s fighting on the Syrian side in the lebanon war (I know intraislamic politics would have made it unlikely) and i had mixed results, yet interesting: Phoenixes are rather unpractical i guess due to the intensity of EW the Israelis deploy. Tomcats, at the altitude at wich most combat happens, own the Eagles. F-16s are to be downed from a distance, but they are not as much as a trouble as one could think. It may be like Phantoms Vs Frescos, for that matter, only that the big one is the one who should play for slow. Also, any aircraft can own you in a moment of low situational awareness. I was about to engage a Kurnass flight when Kfirs flew from 9 o´clock, launched a salvo of IRMs and struck my whole 4 planes flight. -

It works perfectly now, did a few modifications, since currently i have a vanilla install, like changing the carrier to the America. I also added VMFA-314 with F-4Ns in Keflavik (anybody knows of an East Coast Marine F-4N squadron wich could have been deployed?) and B-52Ds from RAF Leuchars in the entries for the RAF Phantoms..will have to find a place for them later. I don´t know how will Buffs work based off-map, however, they are not deployed until the 21st (i´m now about to try the A-Strike on Kiev BG) Loved the idea of the soviet reinforcement convoy, but had Rigas replaced by Kashins. Will tell you how it works, but yet again, thanks a lot -

That picture is clearly indecent, shows the thud in bare skin -
Indeed, with FMJ you can discuss wich part of the film was better, Vietnam or Parris Island, but with Heartbreak Ridge, it is more some kind of a tragic comedy about the character with a happy ending. Everytime mom is zapping and it is in any channel, she just sighs "Again?" and leaves it for me

Using stock aircraft only, i could try and bag with ease Eagles and Tomcats flying the Starfighter...however, the stock zipper is a beast compared to 3rd party and 1st gen versions, handling wise, so i can´t tell -
What about Clint Eastwood Grenada Epic? Wait, it was REALLY epic.
-
I would say Hamburguer Hill is my favourite, maybe followed by Platoon. Apocalypse and FMJ are cool, but too surreal. If anything i dislike, are the vocieovers, but Cpt. Willard is my Favourite Character. An special mention would go to Flight of the Intruder and maybe the Forrest Gump Vietnam scenes Being their own genre, what´s your input into Vietnam War films?

Had the same trouble, i don´t know of any solution. Perhaps the campaign has some other ini or anything sending any embarked unit to the Nimitz, or it may be something about the engine with naval maps, wich i doubt is the issue. This would be the main trouble. However, not adding a carrier group could keep the balance, as including it adds just a bit to the variety, that being another nearly identically composed air wing, with different units but a different carrier model. I wish it could be done, however, as it makes sense to have both carriers operating in the area and it would be just cool. -
AWG-9 problems in SF2

Sabotage, blame the Hughes guys. Wait, you mean ingame... -
I was to make a point about the difference between real football and american handegg...then SkyVyper stole the show and i forgot about what i was about to say.

Saving Private Ryan is probably what made the genre reborn. Mixed the grittiness of Vietnam war movies with the epic of 2nd world war movies. I don´t think it is fair to call it Pro American propaganda. I don´t remember a nother films wich portrayed terror that way. IMO, a good war film must be terrorific. Nuuf said about the landing. Look at all the scenes of US soldiers killing surrendering germans, "Don´t shoot, let them burn!" or the scene in wich two groups of soldiers corner a fleeing german squad in a trench near the beach and unload on them. Look at the messenger who runs to the killzone of an MG42, or vin diesel getting hit by the sniper with the kids so close and dying in front of his powerless fellows Look at the whole scene at the radar station, the death of the medic and the show of the german prisoner. The tanks scaring the living crap out of you just making the earth shake, the tracks noise was worse than the Jaws theme. The tanker who tries to escape just to get the haed shot up by the paras, who then get shredded by the automatic flak, or when the translator freezes on the stairs while the Jewish guy and the SS guy are fighting desperately with Max Martini bleeding to death. While it is often compared to the Thin Red Line, wich is as good, if there is one advantage i find in SPR is that you don´t need the voiceovers to deliver the message. If somebody needs a voiceover to get the point after watching either film, he wasted his time.

It was "Operation Dumbo Drop". That opening Huey scene... Burt Lancaster did really kick ass in "Go tell the Spartans", i would dare to say more than the Duke in "Green Berets". On a side note, the other day i was talking with a peace activist i know from Law School. She is quite open minded, not a upper class brat wich is just there for the show. She asked me about wich version did i believe in: that of Platoon, or that of We were soldiers. All i could say is that both were true in my opinion. Didn´t pretty much think about it at the moment, but you know, that makes sense. War seems too broad and too big to tell the whole story with a single point of view

chaff and flares for F-8 FN?
macelena replied to slick cowboy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
That´s because the 3D model is the same, the name of meshes remain, those are not related to the aircraft name in the folder or inis, you can do it with anything, ground objects included -

Exp3 News! (no, not really)
macelena replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Allright, so far, Exp3 will have Mirage F1, surely MirageIIIE and Mirage 5F, quite probably a bunch new AI red aircraft, possibly F-16s for Europe, maybe some arab mirages hard to sell as DLCs as a bonus, and if we hit the jackpot, the return of the Starfighter. Do you know what i think it doesn´t seem to have?Screenshot buttons -

MiG-25 is in the INIs for campaign in Lebanon 82. Besides, if the expansion is taking place in 1979 with Mirage F1s (or maybe ad a later one to include F-16s) it would be great to have it since all you have are floggers and fishbeds. Maybe swing wing fitters (also hinted in inis) to have a nice red side target array to shoot at. Well, i had not touched SF2 for a while due to exams, and it is taking it´s toll. The other night i dreamed of an expansion with F-4J(74)s, taking off from an stock Forrestal escorted by stock Farragut class DLGs...i doubt it is ever happening, but i need to play the game a bit again lol -
Done and wrong. I doubt any later invasion or colonization had a better excuse. Ask their neighbours.
