  5. This is a simple photo-tutorial for anyone who would like to make decals using GIMP. After using GIMP to get started I soon tried to 'upgrade' to Photoshop Elements but quickly came back to GIMP because it's just so damn easy! Seriously, it's enabled a ham-fisted amateur like me to have Voodoos in RAF service and Lightnings in USAF service! For anyone with an interest in 'what if' making your own decals opens up a lot of possibilities - lol, it's kept me busy for 10 years. For example, you may be Venezualan but just wish that your government had bought Phantoms or Harriers. No problem! We can put that right! So, for now, forget about 24-bit, 32-bit and Alpha channels. This will be enough to get you started and you can learn the more advanced stuff later. Before I start, I should point out that this tutorial is based on GIMP 2.6.11 but I don't think that the recipe is any different for later versions. As explained, for making decals it really helps to set your default image as a transparency (Photo 2). I do hope you can follow it and sincerely hope that I haven't cut out any important steps due to my familiarity with this amazing free, open-source software.
  6. Yes. I've just installed GIMP 2.8.2 (I think) onto my laptop and got my wife to try to follow it. The final save and export is a bit different and threw her a bit.
  7. Quite a handsome looking aircraft and it's Marauder ancestry can be seen.
  8. Israel Aerospace Industries 'Shavit' - 201 Squadron, Heyl Ha'Avir, 1977 The French Arms Embargo of 1967 spurred on the Israeli Government to become increasingly self-sufficient in all aspects of defence procurement and Israel Aerospace Industries certainly played it's part when it was jointly tasked with the development of the Mirage 5 (entering service as the 'Nesher' in 1971) and also dusting off an earlier indigenous design for the development of a twin-engined swept-wing supersonic attack jet called the 'Shavit' (Comet). Whilst the Nesher programme progressed well the Shavit had a troubled early development history. Prior to the French Arms Embargo the aircraft was based around two of the forthcoming Rolls-Royce Turbomeca Adour two-shaft turbofans but after 1967 this option was denied forcing the Shavit designers to resort to using the less powerful General Electric J85 single-shaft turbojets with much lower installed thrust and higher specific fuel consumption. Early in 1968 the sophisticated nav/attack system planned for the original Shavit was ditched in favour of a simpler 'clear weather' system. Despite these constraints, Israel Aerospace Industries created a tough and dependable attack aircraft that entered service in the Spring of 1973 when 201 Squadron re-equipped with the type just in time for the Yom Kippur war. Ironically, a reversal of the French Arms Embargo saw the Shavits eventually re-enginned with the Adour Mk104 during the mid-1980's eventually serving until 1997 when the last aircraft was retired. The PAF skin in the Q-5C 'Fantan' download is used here with some appropriate IDF markings and stock Kurnass serials.
  9. Russ - I hope our rugby team are as dogged as you this coming Six Nations.
  10. Great work DA. One of my favourite a/c in one of my favourite camo schemes. Win Win.

  12. Slightly OT but I would like to thank all modders who upload templates. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

  14. Sorry Doug - not this particular one. It's a time and inclination thing - sorry mate.
  15. View File North American RF-100A 'Slick Chick' North American RF-100A for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a very simple mod of the stock North American F-100A to create an RF-100A 'placeholder' until something better comes along. You'll need to have Expansion Pack 2 to access the F-100A. This little known Cold War warrior today can lay claim to being the world's first supersonic recconnaisance aircraft and I'd encourage you to read what you can about the handful of RF-100A's starting here; http://www.spyflight.co.uk/f100.htm Now I'm not a 3D modeller so I've done the best I could using MiG-21 recon pods to create the broadly similar shapes seen on the real RF-100A. To get them to load I've classified them as non-jettisonable fuel tanks so don't worry about dropping your tanks on the return dash - your precious wet film will still be there for the CIA boffins to examine. The RF-100A's carried no armament so I've deleted the 20mm cannon and removed the gun smoke but unfortunately the gun troughs are still there but you'll soon forget about that. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the RF-100A folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the RF-100A folder into your Decals Folder. 3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the SLICK_CHICK folder into your Weapons folder. CREDITS As always, big thanks to Third Wire for the continuous improvement of a great little game/sim. A thank you to whoever created the MiG-21 Recon Pod and I hope you don't mind it being used here. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.
