Actually they are 5J's:grin: created by just playing around with the stock Mirage 5, stock Mirage 5 skins and stock Nesher decal ini's - now that's what I call "stocks and shares" . I've been reading up on the Mirage recently and (re)discovered the sorry tale of the 50 Mirage 5J's purchased by Israel (they were actually the driving force and launch customer for the simpler 5 series) but then saw them embargoed by De Gaulle just on the eve of the Six-Day War. A fascinating story. -

View File [Fictional] AMD/BAC Taranis FGA.1 AMD/BAC Taranis FGA.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire Kfir C1 to give a fictional AMD/BAC Taranis FGA.1 fighter-bomber with markings for No.1, No.6 and No.54 squadrons of the Royal Air Force in the late 1960's and 1970's. BACKSTORY The RAF's search for a Hunter replacement took many twists and turns but by 1962 the focus had come back to a more basic and austere fighter-bomber but still with supersonic performance. Dassault had previously proposed the promising Avon-Mirage (first flown in February 1961) to the RAF and had also unsuccessfully offered it to both Australia and Switzerland but by 1963 Rolls-Royce and SNECMA were offering their outstanding Sequanna turbofan to Dassault with the potential for 12,000lbs of dry thrust and 18,000lbs with reheat. However it was not until the cancellation of the TSR.2 in April 1965 that BAC and Dassault could formally combine to offer a version of the Mirage IV delta-winged bomber to the RAF and also the proposed Mirage 'Angleterre' fighter-bomber, both powered by the Sequanna and both immediately accepted by the UK Labour government with a formal order issued in 1965. BAC's involvement was clearly politcal (and initially confined to the production of the UK versions of both aircraft) the BAC Warton team threw themselves into both projects being just grateful to actually have something on the assembly line after the Lightning. Whilst based on the proposed Mirage V (to meet an Israeli requirement for a simplied Mirage III) the Sequanna powered version of the Mirage required slightly larger intakes and also an additional air inlet installed at the base of the vertical stabilizer for additional cooling air needed for the SNECMA designed afterburner. In June 1965 the 'Taranis' name was bestowed upon the aircraft and development moved swiftly during 1965 and 1966 culminating with René Bigand flying the first prototype from Istres in early December 1966 whilst the second prototype flew from Warton in the following March flown by Roland Beamont. The Taranis entered service with EC 1/2 'Cigognes' Armée de l'Air in August 1968 and with No.1 Squadron of the Royal Air Force in January 1969. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the TARANIS_FGA1 folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the TARANIS_FGA1 folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. A little update and a chance to bring it into the Spinners' 'what if' hangar. This features new decals (inc. new serial numbers) and, as suggested by Shaolin, a sharkmouth decal has been added. In addition, the asymetric Sidewinder pylons have been removed from the inner wing pylons and twin Sidewinder pylons have been added to the outboard pylons. -

[Fictional] Westland Whirlwind FB.2

View File [Fictional] Westland Whirlwind FB.2 Westland Whirlwind FB.2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a very simple mod of the prolific Veltro2K's Whirlwind to give a fictional Whirldwind FB.2 in service with No.6 Squadron (the famous 'Flying Can-Openers') of the RAF's Desert Air Force. This mod is meant for SF2 and, ideally, you'll have Expansion Pack 1 for the stock 250lb bombs. More experienced WW2 modders will have access to more correct bombs but I just wanted this to be as simple as possible to install. This is an older 3D model that has a few problems that will not get fixed now so it's all released 'as is'. One possible problem that could be fixed by the community here is what sounds like the undercarriage collapsing when working up to rotation speed but this rarely affects your ability to complete the mission. I've played around with it and copied other aircraft's landing gear for ideas but I can't fix it. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the WhirlwindFB2 folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the WhirlwindFB2 folder into your Decals folder. That's it! But you may need to add a suitable WW2 Pilot (not supplied). CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Special thanks to Veltro2K for all of his delightfully esoteric aircraft, this is just one of many! Check them out! Thanks also to Syrinx for the Whirlwind template which I lost back in 2016 when I suffered a complete data loss : ( And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. [Fictional] Corsair GR.1 - RAF South East Asia Command

File Name: [Fictional] Corsair GR.1 - RAF South East Asia Command File Submitter: Spinners File Submitted: 29 July 2008 File Category: What If Hangar BAC/Vought Corsair GR.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:VIETNAM This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire A-7B to give a fictional BAC/Vought Corsair GR.1 with markings for No.8 and No.20 squadrons of RAF South East Asia Command. BACKSTORY The UK General Election of October 1964 saw a new Labour government slip into power with a slender four-seat majority but this did not deter their planned shake-up of the UK Defence Budget. Whilst many observers felt that the TSR.2 programme would survive until at least the 1965 April budget it was not that great a shock when the axe fell earlier than expected in November 1964 with a bland announcement that a three-month study period of the RAF's tactical strike and recconnaisance requirements would be immediately started as part of a much broader Emergency Defence Review. The Emergency Defence Review of February 1965 concluded that the RAF needed a more flexible force and recommended a mix of aircraft with a small force of sophisticated all-weather tactical strike aircraft, a much larger force of tactical attack machines plus an improved interceptor-fighter force equipped with longer-range aircraft than the totally inadequate Lightning. Whilst initially ordered as a replacement for the Hunter the Spey-enginned Phantoms already on order (thanks to an order placed by the outgoing Conservative Government in February 1964) were now allocated to air defence duties to replace the Lightnings in the UK and RAF Germany squadrons. For the tactical strike role it was no surprise that the F-111 was ordered but, like the Phantoms, with Spey engines which soon hit many of same problems encountered by the Spey-Phantoms. For the RAF's tactical attack role almost no one foresaw the purchase of Ling-Temco Vought's VAL contender (later designated A-7 Corsair II) as it had only just been selected, literally days earlier, by the US Navy as their A-4 Skyhawk replacement. The UK Government simply couldn't resist putting the non-afterburning Spey into their version of the Corsair but, thankfully, this was a much happier marriage and LTV had actually already planned their A-7 to use this engine as an insurance policy and to be able to offer an export version of their promising design. As some sort of feeble compensation to BAC for the loss of the TSR.2 the UK Government negotiated with LTV a manufacturing licence for BAC to licence-build all British production aircraft although this was more of a final assembly deal plus partnering on all European and Commonwealth sales which actually became quite lucrative for BAC. Development moved swiftly and apart from minor delays due to the substitution of the TF-30 for the Rolls-Royce Spey RB.168-2A turbofan engine the only other delay was caused by the substitution of the Colt Mk12 20mm cannon for British 30mm Aden (with reduced round capacity) and progress was certainly helped by having the prototypes built and test-flown in the USA and the British Corsairs simply slotted into the very smooth and highly successful LTV Corsair programme that saw the A-7A move from operational requirement to squadron service in three years. Entering service as the Corsair GR.1 in early 1968 the aircraft was extremely popular in RAF service and served until late 1991 after seeing service in Desert Storm. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the CorsairGR1 folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the CorsairGR1 folder into your main Decals folder. 3. From the SOUNDS folder drag and drop the Spey_Dry file into your main Sounds folder. CREDITS Thanks to Third Wire for the continuous improvement of a great little game/sim. And thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Regards Spinners Version 3 - 30/12/13 Click here to download this file -
