Slightly OT - I know the USN did not operate the RF-4B but did the USMC RF-4B's ever serve aboard a carrier? -
[Fictional] RAF Douglas Skyraider FB.2
Spinners posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
View File [Fictional] RAF Douglas Skyraider FB.2 Douglas Skyraider FB.2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock 'AI' Thirdwire A-1H to give a flyable 'what if' RAF Skyraider FB.2 with markings for No.33 Squadron as part of 'Operation Firedog' in the 1950's. Whilst this mod is meant for Strike Fighters 2 is does require you to have Strike Fighter 2: Vietnam so that you have the necessary Third Wire A-1H LOD's that are, of course, not included here. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the SkyraiderFB2 folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the SkyraiderFB2 folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Special thanks to Wrench for the lines and rivets from his 2048 x 2048 Skyraider templates squeezed into my 1024 x 1024 templates. Extra special thanks to CA_Stary for the cockpit. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Regards Spinners Version 2 - January 31st, 2024 Submitter Spinners Submitted 11/10/2009 Category What If Hangar -

Highest Single Mission Score
Spinners posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Skyraider GA.1 of No.112 squadron, RAF South East Asia Command. I normally fly single missions testing decal positions, etc. and flew a really good one a few minutes ago in my 'Spad' scoring 5770 including two MiG-17's - the second was on a head-on pass and, as you can see, he beat me up a bit before kopping a 20mm in the chops. Anyway, whilst I'm sure that this is quite a modest score it got me thinking about what the record is - so let's see your highest single mission scores (non-nuclear please) and tell us a bit about the aircraft, terrain mission, etc. -

If you've never installed any sounds I think you might need to create a folder called 'Sounds' (e.g. Spinners/Saved Games/ThirdWire/StrikeFighters2/Sounds) -

A very smart scheme! I got the tanks to work by following the re-naming bit as you advised but then copying and pasting the original 'Hunter9' loadout.ini and the 'Hunter9' weapon station section of the data.ini into the relevant GA.11 inis. -

Hawker Hunter F.5 For SF2 'Suez'
Spinners posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: Hawker Hunter F.5 For SF2 'Suez' File Submitter: Spinners File Submitted: 12 Jul 2009 File Category: SF2 Series Add On Aircraft Hawker Hunter F.5 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the excellent Third Wire Hunter to give a flyable Hawker Hunter F.5 fighter-bomber with markings for No.1 and No.34 squadrons of the Royal Air Force in the mid-1950's period. Both squadrons were dispatched to Cyprus during the 1956 Suez Crisis and wore yellow and black 'invasion' stripes during that conflict. These stripes are reproduced here as decals so that they can easily be removed or you can move the fuselage stripes aft of the roundel to suit your taste as photographs exist showing both locations. INSTRUCTIONS 1. Drop the Hunter_F5 folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. Sprinkle the contents of the Decals folder into your main Decals folder. Do not just move the folder! You must empty the contents in. N.B. If you haven't got a Decals folder inside your Objects folder then simply move my Decals folder into your Objects folder. NOTES This Hunter F.5 is set up, just like the real thing, with just the two inner-wing weapons pylons. MARKINGS Both squadrons did actually operate the Hunter F.5 but the markings are slightly 'generic' although the serials are accurate. CREDITS BIG THANKS to TK for the continuous improvement of a great little game/sim. And special thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. F-84H for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:EUROPE This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-84F to give a fictional F-84H 'Sharav' of the Israeli Air Force with markings for; No.101 Squadron (Camo) No.107 Squadron (Silver) No.140 Squadron (Camo) No.201 Squadron (Silver) No.201 Squadron (Silver c/w sharkmouth) This should work in a stand alone SF2:Europe game (featuring the stock Third Wire F-84F) but has only been tested in a merged install of SF2/SF2V/SF2E/SF2I/SF2NA. BACKSTORY The Israeli Air Force had looked at purchasing the Republic F-84F Thunderstreak as early as 1952 but teething problems with the troublesome Wright J65 jet engine delayed a firm order until March 1955 when 36 F-84H's were ordered with deliveries starting in August 1955 with No.107 squadron becoming the first unit to re-equip with this tough and popular fighter-bomber. After seeing service in the ill-fated 1956 Suez conflict another batch of 36 F-84H's were ordered and the type eventually equipped four squadrons and took part in the 1967 'Six-Day' war gaining a fearsome reputation as a low-level attack aircraft. However the two squadrons that were still equipped with the type at the start of the 1973 'Yom Kippur' war suffered heavy losses over the Sinai Peninsula and the type was withdrawn from service by the end of year. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-84H folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-84H folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Special thanks to ludo.m54 for the superb F-84F templates. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Great work! By chance I was reading about this aircraft tonight and noted that Israel bought it as a stop-gap whilst waiting for their Mystere IV's (having rejected the Mystere II). Did this aircraft have a name in Israeli service?
