Zwei Probleme.

For the name i must take a look into my archive. Hope that i will find something usefull. Maybe. What i can remember now is, that in the first moment after the shock of the appearence of the tanks in Germany hastily a lot of big caliber guns were requisitioned (i hope this is the correct term) from large annimal hunters. This guns were used for a while till the Panzerbüchse came to the front. For the nomal 98K carabine armour piercing hard core bullits were developed and were used from 1917 or so.

It is not only neccessary to punch a hole in a armour of a tank, but you must destroy critical parts in the vehicle too. Critical parts are ammo, crew, optics etc, but mainly the crew. It is relativly unlikly, that you will hit a crewmember directly by shooting through the armour plate. To increase the chance to harm the crew it is neccessary to increase the numbres of debris inside the tank. And a bullit with bigger caliber will cause more debris flying inside the tank. Thatswhy the bigger caliber was used. At beginning of the war the main caliber of AT guns, Panzerbüchsen in german language, was around 7.62 mm (depends on the country, some had 7.92, other 7.7 or so) but this small guns were not powerfull enough so that till 1941 the caliber was rising to 14.5 mm. And such calibred AT guns you could not only use for AT but for sniper tasks or sometimes in the Flak role.

I found this picture in the web. It is said, that it shows a part of the wreck of the crashed malaysian 777 flight MH17. For me the holes are not looking like hits of a blast fragmentation warhead or of a continious rod warhead. It looks similar to hits by gunfire of caliber 23 or 30mm. If this is true, then the story of shot down by Buk SAM is false. The question is, wheter the picture shows truely a part of the wreck of the 777 or is it a fake?

Cha-23 NATO designation AS-7 Kerry was seen on Yak-38M and during the AFG campaign the Cha-25 NATO designation AS-10 Karen was used. The screenshots show Cha-25MP missiles. -

New gift tank for the european server. Japanese Tier 2 light tank Type 97 Te-Ke. Not to bad if you ask me. Was my first battle on this little tank. Not available on US server so far. Perhaps it will comes later.

BBC news alert: East german Forgers attacked the Invincible battle group some miles west of the island of Rügen after S-300PMU SAM systems annihilated the Sea Harriers. The first strike hits the picket shipes, while the missiles of the main strike hit the british carrier and sunk it. -
If Scotland really would vote for independence in autumn this year and it would become an own independent nation in some years, what would happen with the HMS QE. Will the ship be owned fully by the rest UK and Scottland will be paid for his share or will be the bow scottish and the stern english and the middle be owned by Wales and Northern Ireland?

In 1968 the soviets wanted that the GDR took part in the CSSR invasion, but in this only one time Ulbricht (ZK Chef) resist against the soviet will. So the GDR forces stayed along the borderline on GDR territory. But it is true, that there are rumours about a german participation. This rumours are partly true. Some days before the soviet invasion the WP held a troop exercise in the slovak part of the CSSR with NVA participation. It were only a fistfull communication troops. 30 or 40 men or so. This tiny force was on the way home, when the soviet invasion started and they tried to avoid WP marching columns at all costs, so that the marchroute went trough the Riesengebirge along the polish czech border to the saxon swizerland mountains, were they arrived GDR territory without having troubles with the czech people. Perhaps it was helpfull that in the marching area still a lot of people were able to speak german language. Your point of animosities between us and the polish you are right. We had a proverb: "With Poland as ally you need no enemy." On the other hand i knew a lot of polish people which a good guys (and girls). -

Fire exchanges between polish and GDR forces are new for me. Have never heared about it. That the polish Navy fired some rounds accidently on a west german ship in 1987, yes, that happend. But polish vs GDR? I doubt. In 1981 there was a big "chance" for a big bang between Poland and the GDR. When Poland was nearly broke down caused by the Solidarnosc thing the WP states prepared themself for an invation. The Militärbezirk V was ordered to make a covered mobilization of forces and 2 or 3 Divisions in the north of the GDR were set in high alert, got full wartime ammo and their staffs were already working on attack plans to reach Kolberg and the Leba Lake into 7 days. When Jaruzelski took over the power in Poland the planes were cancelled, but still during my military time in the end of the 80th i heard in some under the hand talks, that in 1981 "we had missed a big chance chance to get back, what belongs to us." I was astonished to hear such revanchistic statements, not only by ordinary soldiers, but by higher ranking officers too. Maybe a "Pommern" aircraftcarrier would fit into such a scenario. -

Ehm, Pommern is a former prussian province. The major part of this province is located eastward of the Oder river, what means, that it is today part of Poland. And our polish allies would have been a little bit more than upset if the Volksmarine would have named a ship with the name "Pommern". Geographicaly correct would be "Vorpommern", but names like these were not used in the GDR. The country was devided in local districts (Bezirke), comparable with the french departement structure, so names like Thüringen, Sachsen etc were not used for naming of ships. Correct ship names were names of towns and cities or names of "revolutionary people". AFAIK in the last periode of the GDR only names of towns and cities were used. But it is a What If. Give it the name you want. I like it. -
SF2NA Open Atlantic Intercept problem
Gepard posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I have problems with my Open Atlantic terrain. If someone it does not know, its a pure sea map, no islands, no land. Only carrier ops. No.1 If i try to launch an intercept mission the game makes a CTD. I even cant go to the selection screen for maps, loadout etc. Dont know why. Has someone an idea? No.2 when i try to fly a cap mission no enemy plane is coming. I see the own carrier with escorts and i have also the enemy carrier with escorts. But no enemy planes. Any ideas, how to solve this problem? -
An interessting fact, i have heard today in the serious german newsradio Deutschlandfunk, was the statement, that a ukrainian IL-76 transportplane was flying "near" the shot down 777. the "near" means some km distance, like usual in civil traffic. It was believed, that this plane was the intended target and the SAM crew accidently fired on the malaysian plane.

MiG-21K soviet carrierborn fighter

How about this: MiG-21KMT Gorbaty Kit (humpback whale) New parts made by Spillone. Its only an idea, so far. My flighttests are not running well. I have still problems with AI landings on carrier with low fuel status. The planes tend to run over the deck and crash into the sea. Dont know why. With high fuel status no AI landing problems appear. -
Fulcrums for the Marineflieger

Yeah, my name proposals were a joke. But Graf Zeppelin sounds to much like Kriegsmarine, that would not fir. But if you want a chancellors name, then Helmut Schmidt. Its the only one with maritime roots as old Hamburger Jung. Or really Ändschi from MeckPom. -
I agree with you. The east ukrainian airspace should have been closed some weeks ago for civil traffic.

An other idea would be that the Ukraine could have sold the unfinished Varyag to Germany instead to China. The Varyag rebuilt got the project name "Ändschi Em" and was finished in a german Shipyard. After the win of the football worldcup it was christened into "Jogi Löw". -
What a ugly plane!
